How does the wax affect your choice of finish?

Generally this wax is my finish, but if I were to use a different type, as long as it’s all sanded out and maybe wiped with denatured alcohol, then no issues!

Good idea, but curious why after you added the wax polish to soften the fibers you just didn’t go over it with a sheer cut.

Honestly never thought of going across the wax with a tool. I suppose I just didn’t wanna dirty up the tool!

@@Brads-Woodshed It would be much faster and you can easily wipe the wax off. I have some diy wax polishing compound and I will try it out.

@@Brads-Woodshed well like all good projects where you think, “just one more pass and it will be better”, I got a catch and the Cherry bowl broke in half and broke off the tenon. Up to that point though I couldn’t tell much improvement, possibly with sand paper it would have been OK, but it was out of round and would have taken a lot of hand sanding. I’ll try again. Usually with tear out though I like to stiffen the fibers with shellac and that seems to be most effective for me.

@@trurex007lee7 ouch on the bowl! Hey whatever works on the end grain. As I said I actually found this out by accident kinda. I was waxing one I thought I had all the tear out gone and time for polish, but when I added the wax and looked under a light I could still see it, so I started to sand and it worked out! I’ve been using it ever since if nothing else seems to work

could you not simply use a base like shellac , then use any finish....

I found it out by accident! I’d thought all my tear out was gone, added wax then realized it wasn’t, started sanding again and worked like a charm!
