I get straight to the project this week and skip the talking... Last year, a client gave me the trunk of a small holly tree that had dried and cracked pretty badly. A nice little vase seemed possible, and despite not being a big resin guy, I immediately saw a resin fill as the best option for the large crack running down one side. I went with an opaque blue fill with a slower curing 2-part resin, so bubbles wouldn't be too much of an issue since I didn't want to drag out the pressure pot. It also had some more minor cracks and a couple soft spots that I filled on the fly with some 5-minute epoxy and the blue dye/powder combo I previously added to the resin. The 5-minute epoxy works surprisingly well for relatively small cracks and voids. I prefer the Devcon brand (no affiliation with them, just a fan).

Proper training and experience are essential before attempting to use any woodworking equipment. Do not attempt projects or techniques that are beyond your skill level or your comfort level! Thanks so much, Jeanie! I'm really tempted to work my dogs into every video... I'm sure the videos would do much better starring Daphne & Linus! They just seem to prefer making the cameos. :) Thank you for watching!

Nice turn Chad, but again that nagging question especially with Holly (very soft) and the resin (very hard) and the drying process and separation anxiety...any thoughts? Best wishes.

Hi Skip! That is a good point and a valid concern, but this holly was bone dry so I'm not worried about this one. The wood basically turned to powder; this was only my second time turning holly (the first piece was a 2x2x6 spindle) so I'm still learning about it. Hoping to get my hands on some fresh stuff soon. Thanks for watching and, as always, for your thoughtful comments/questions!
