Woodturning - Pine Cones

In this video I make a small hollow form from pine cones in epoxy resin, Unfortunately I ran out of resin so it ended up smaller than intended.

I’m always amazed by the size of the pieces you make. When you first start working on them, they look like they will be huge. Then, you put your hand on them and I see that they’re really small - absolutely no reflection on the craftsmanship and beauty of each piece. I’m just surprised, that’s all! This one turned out to be quite lovely. I live in the part of Texas that’s known for its enormous pine trees. Here, pine cones are a nuisance to most people. This is a stunning use of what we consider trash!

Andy! I was just thinking aged stonefruit pits (halved so the kernel can be removed) cast into resin might create an interesting texture to work with. Just saw this where you're doing something very similar. Peaches and nectarines, maybe even almond outer shells. The lattermost might be the cleanest, easiest to procure, and to work with. A loofah or cactus cast into resin would also create a very interesting yet natural texture.
