In this video I planned on making a gnarly live edge vessel but when I turned this piece of Birch it didn't look very gnarly, so I added resin coloured with white pearl and antique silver mica powders and made a lamp ...

How the hell does that tool not go flying every time you move it towards that misshapen piece when you at first begin?

I think cuz it’s spinning towards him so the tool gets pushed down instead of up! But I don’t know

His grip still has to really strong for it not to kick thr handles up.

@@lxserslxne8188 You're correct, the wood is pushing mostly down on the tool, and the tool is supported by the tool rest. The tool rest functions as a fulcrum making the tool a lever. as long as you don't allow the tool to stick out too far past the tool rest, you'll have more then enough leverage to keep it secure. The other answer is incorrect you do not need strong grip strength.

I am always impressed when halfway through a video I am sure there is no way to turn the project into a work of beauty and in the end, it is in fact what I "knew" couldn't be. That is true artistry.

OMG! - I swear every piece gets more and more impressive. On a side-note: If you had been my High School Shop teacher, I would have been on a COMPLETELY different career path, but I supposed someone with your talent wouldn't be teaching Shop unless it was just for the joy of passing on that artistic passion you have. WOW!

Wood turning is the job I love that had to gave up on. I developed a weird allergy to bacteria residing in the wood, So I had to sell all my equipment and do something else. I still find joy in seeing the beautiful creations others do

When you got going and I thought: oh, he'll keep the rugged rustic look on it with the bark. And you took if off and burned it. I thought: the coronavirus got the poor man. Then, and THEN you finished and what a wonderful piece of art!! You may trick us now and then, but. WOW! Andy, you done good!!

This is amazing. All of your pieces of art just blow my mind. If I were to try any of these, it'd take me years what I imagine takes you about a week. You are such a skilled craftsman and I would gladly buy any of your pieces of art. If I had money. What's also really nice, and I've mentioned this before, but, the way you interact with your fans is nice. It's nice to see a creator who truly cares about his viewers.
