Yew is beautiful wood. It looks as if it's not difficult to work with. It's the best wood for the traditional English longbow, as well.

It can be very beautiful. Did you know it is poisonous?

@@JackMackWoodturning I had never heard that, but I just looked it up. Wow. There were a lot of yews around where I lived when I was a kid, and I always thought the berries looked nasty. But I would never eat anything from the earth that I hadn't checked out first anyway, even as a child.

I love the finished work with that beautiful grain. No offence, but for some reason I was attracted to the original block. I would have sanded, sealed and polished it and then spent my days touching and looking at my "work of art." I suppose I'm in the minority here but I'm strange that way.

Yew don’t get more poisonous than this wood
@JackMackWoodturning Жыл бұрын
Not really tho, not when it comes to working with the timber. The Taxines are scarcely present in the wood its self. The leaves bark and seed contain levels of Taxine B which can be fatal if consumed (eaten) but working with the timber is no more dangerous than any other timber, this is to say that it needs to be treated as harmful but not due to the assumption that it is poisonous but because all wood dust is harmful.
