I know it's part of the game, but it always feels little lame when they just do a slight variation on a trick they already know their opponent can't do.

That's like saying I can't do a backside flip when I already did a kickflip in a game of skate. Makes no sense.

Why is The standard for pro female skating so different? Im trying to understand what physical attributes that men have that would make them better ? Strength is part of it im sure but i feel the difference is negligible when it comes to skating? I dont know. Its not basketball where height and strength make a huge difference. Are pads really necessary are 5 foot mini ramp
@ericc4976
@ericc4976 Жыл бұрын
There are 1000s of male skaters for every female, social draws to extreme sports are less for females, so the amount of women skaters that spend the countless hours of time and effort necessary to become pro is so small in comparison. It's really a numbers game rather than any physical limitations. Thankfully, more women are skating than ever and the bar will be raised faster than before, the skill level in female snowboarding for example is exploding right now

I've noticed this too, it's even to the point where I usually won't watch any of their comps because, not to be rude, but it feels boring, like they just don't have the drive/energy to really push themselves. I believe it's what they push themselves to do or not do. I was just watching the Japanese females skate at one of their events and really enjoyed it, was able to watch the whole thing, and some were only 12 years old. Almost all of them were trying and landing some really hard tricks closer to the level of the top pro men, and most were skating better than the other "top pro" women of SLS.
@matildagreene

It all comes down to representation. The phrase "if you can't see it, you can't be it" comes to mind. It's not that women can't be as good as men (physicality doesn't mean much since preteens are constantly winning contests these days), it's that we haven't seen many women at the top levels of skateboarding until fairly recently with street league and other contests like that, skateboarding was a very male dominated activity for most of it's existence. Women have always skated, but if you don't see pro women killing it then it means that there's much less of a ceiling for girls to aspire to when they start skateboarding. There's also the fact that there's comparatively less women skating compared to men, and when you have a smaller pool of competitors to choose from then the chances of finding a new Nyjah or Rayssa Leal is much lower than if there was a larger pool. There's only a couple young girls like Rayssa, but there's almost endless young boys like Kristion Jordan for example that are skating at the level that they do, this is because there's just more young boys skating than girls. For an opposing example, there's many more talented female gymnasts than there are male gymnasts, because the pool of women gymnasts is much larger. Think about how since street league and most recently the Olympics have happened, the skill of the top pro women has risen dramatically and is progressing comparatively faster than the men, this is because more girls can see girls killing it and thus think "hey I can actually do that too". Give it a few years and I guarantee that thanks to more diverse representation at the top levels of skating we'll see the women be as good as the men. Rayssa Leal is only 15 and she's insanely good, with some time she'll easily be walking all over a lot of pro men. Same with Chloe Covell, or any of the younger girls you see skating contests these days. The women pro scene is barely kicking off and in time it will catch up.

it probably has to do with self-preservation instinct, testosterone, those kinds of things. 12 year old boys are way better than 25 year old girls, so there has to be something psychological caused by sexual dymorphism, physical attributes do not paint the whole picture at all.
