Harry it looks like we both love the same two things: leatherworking and woodworking :) Cant wait to see what you're making this time! I have a tip for you, because I've done a lot of research on fine dust and I'm lucky to have met a university professor who has spent most of his career on work environment safety. He said, if you're like me and have a small woodworking shed with no room for proper dust extraction and ducts, there is a a cheap and easy solution that is equally as good: an extraction fan from greenhouse supplies. Not the ones with a shallow profile like the ones they sell at hardware stores, but the ones that are deeper and look a bit like airplane turbines. Let me know if you want a link or a photo. These things are designed to move a lot of air efficiently and they do wonders with breathable dust. They don't have to be massive or expensive, and they take no room because they mount directly in a hole on the wall or a window (just have to make sure it is opposite a door or another window that you will leave ajar so you can make a draft). I have a dust meter and I took readings in my shed after sanding a lot of wood, and as soon as I turned the fan on the amount of breathable dust in the air want back to normal levels in seconds. It's an easy, cheap and elegant solution. I still wear a basic mask while cutting or sanding but only for a few seconds until the fan has a chance to do its thing. Actually the professor said that for a shed as small as mine (3m X 4m) even a couple of bathroom fans would make a huge difference. Of course the fan does nothing for the piles of sawdust on the floor, you still have to pick those up with some sort of shop vac, but it does wonders for the quality of the air that we breathe.

My late Grandad used to make those dolls and sell them to a toy store in Birmingham. I think it was Hamleys, But I'm not 100% sure.

Not surprised you have a Silky! They're a joy to work with. Also, that shingle splitting video called back to? I'm pretty sure that's the first video I watched on this channel.

The dolls look similar to limberjack dancing dolls from the Appalachian Mountain region here in the US.

Artists used to use a jointed wooden figure of a man called a lay figure, which I believe is from the Dutch word 'leeman'. So, presumably, the same sort of thing.

The start of another interesting project, I’m very interested in green wood working. So any information or tips I can learn from you I will put to good use. I look forward to seeing the doll come together. Also good to see you are wearing the clog boots you made, I hope they are becoming more comfortable as they wear in. Take care, regards, Chris.

Hello Simon, not a huge amount, but I cover this a bit in a later video. If you Google Grodnertal dolls, penny dolls, Dutch dolls you will find more. There is also a lady here on KZbin who has done a very good video on them.

I see a sign of SEVENOAKS. Do you live there? after my study, I work in Edenbridge, kent for a few months in the winter. I remember there was so much snow that the railway was closed for 3-4 days and everything in the food stores sold out. It was a real crisis for foods and drinks.

Ah Edenbridge is near by! I live on platform 5 at Sevenoaks station, the branch line, trains seem very rare here, in fact I am still waiting for the evening express. 🙂

@@harryrogers I remember the train sign Display on the front and back for Sevenoaks. It was a long time ago(1987) and I think there are big changes everywhere. I live in Vancouver for 25 years and a lot of changes here. Now it looks like Hong Kong with highrise apt building everywhere and the most expensive to live here.
