Being in the southern US I build many things out of pine. I always dread drilling into pine. Your dowel joints turned out smooth.

I probably don, t tell you anything new but. Start at high RPM and feed very controlled and incredibly low. Be prepared that is doesn't catch. Small holes can be started in reverse. Sometimes, that saved me. Use the kind of drill he used. Wood drills just do softwood more cleanly than universal. Take a look into drill geometry. Masking take helps.

What a great video. I found this inspiring. I really like that you dont try to do everything with the same tools. I counted 6 saws for example. I also like the combination of electric tools and hand tools. Real modern woodworking. Also no dust collection :-) makes me feel good about my workshop. What this video has taught me is that my japanese saws and chisels are not as sharp as they should be. I'm going to have to work on my sharpening and sawing techniques. Beautiful work as usual.

My chisels are not in very good condition. It is about 70% of the ability. The weather was so cold that I roughly sharpened the chisels.

Beautiful dove tails. But over time (sometimes very little time) soft wood is prone to all kinds of damage and ware. The long spans are guaranteed to warp or bow (due to it being soft wood) - the warp will undermine your joints and may cause them to crack. Expansion and contraction will be most apparent with soft wood and may cause the joints to over expand and destroy the dovetails in hotter temps or it’ll shrink and create gaps causing a very weak joint in colder temps. Use hardwood - looks nicer, is stronger, lasts longer, takes stain well and less expansion and contraction.

Recently I found that the softwood dovetails I made six years ago had no problems. I haven't found any cracks in my dovetails yet. The contraction and expansion of soft wood is slightly more than that of oak, walnut, and ash. Of course hardwood also have the contraction and expansion. The important thing seems to be the dry condition of the wood. When the moisture content is low, the dovetails made of soft wood are also very good. Of course, it is important to maintain indoor humidity when the rainy season continues, like the rain poured on Korea last summer. 99.999999%, I agree with your opinion.
