Hey Jesse, that pomp and bravado was what kept me coming back to the samurai. Over here in england we call it a good sense of humour screw anyone who doesn't get that. Joined up to the school and just built my workshop in my garden, lets do this. 💪

Jesse, i'm following your videos since about a year now. I'm not a carpenter. I just love to see people like you working with this wonderfull thing that is wood. If i was to quit my actual job i think i would come back to school to learn this way of life (because it's not only a job, it's a passion !). I'm not the king of personn who leave comments in every video. On the contrary, i'm descret. I see now in this video that you seem to have been through a lot of hard time. And i just wanted to tell you, don't quit. Don't doubt yourself. Have faith ! Because you are a wonderfull soul. You have to see that you have an amazing talent (and you do it with fun too... which is excellent !). I don't know if i'm understandable (because English is not my first language, i'm french), but this message is to lift your heart up. You are an inspiration Jesse ! Keep doing what you do the best ! Put all your best in it. That way you'll have no regret and will still be proud of yourself ! By the way thank you because thanks to you i descovered another personn that i'm following too (Alec Steel). Thanks Jesse !

It takes courage to show such vulnerability, especially in such a public domain. I've been watching your videos since you started and you never fail to inspire me. I very much admire you. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to participate in your school just yet, but I hope the opportunity is still there in the future. Due to family problems I once dropped out of a course I was in right at the end, a couple of months before we were due to take the final exam. I'd spent the guts of 3 years on that course and had made many good friends - I shouldn't have been surprised but I was when 3 of my 'classmates' showed up at my front door one Saturday morning to literally beg me to go back. We were so close to the end they said, they knew I was going to blaze through it, they'd spoken with the administration and got them to agree that I could go back and take the tests, they'd managed to get my home address and then traveled half way across the country to get me. It hit me like a ton of bricks, right there in front of them, the thought that these people cared ... it brought me to tears in an instant. Let's be honest though, we care about your work too because it's fucking awesome! Your style is amazing.

Jesse, Congratulations on the success of your school! Perhaps one day I will be in a place where I can join up with you guys and bring my woodworking skills up to snuff! However, I am currently learning to be a blacksmith. I’ve done an exhaustive search for any and all information on forging Japanese chisels and planes. I just can’t seem to find any resources about these particular topics. Do you happen to know of any makers, books, videos, etc. that you could recommend so I can begin learning how to craft these beautiful tools? Thanks in advance, Ben

Anyone who couldn't see that the pomp and bluster was pure showmanship and meant to be comical is a dope. You have succeeded because you have all the right ingredients: a bit of showbiz pizazz (but not too much), great material and information, but most importantly, a genuine love of woodworking and your mission to promote and foster a great crafts tradition. Any and every success you have had has been hard earned and well deserved.

I have to admit, the first time I watched one of your videos...it was by accident. I was trying to learn about my heritage. My mom had died and my dad told me that she was from a long line of samurai...blew me away. Then, he died. I'm 55 and I think my memory must be failing. I remembered you being outside of a garage, but you had the same tools that my mom had. I thought, "What a weird idea!", but I've never been able to stop watching! You are cocky, but you are humble. You don't see a mix, like that, often. My husband is like that...only he calls it 'the kavorka'. It's a Seinfeld thing. You can KZbin search it. I'm really enjoying the classes. It's like touching the shroud of Turin. Not really...but close! Hahaa! Fist pump and congratulations on your "sweet" victory.

I know this video is a bit older but I'll definitely be taking part in the future. These are nice, and very much like the ones you made a while back. I built a pair loosely based on the first set I saw on your channel. The first time I used them, I tried to clamp my work piece to the horse on the end of the cross bar, outside the stile. But the angled cut on the underside of the cross bar made that difficult. I recommend a shorter angle near the very end, leaving a horizontal underside to attach the clamp to. Not as pretty, but more functional.
