This is purely a cosmetic display, no joint would be made like that , it is only as strong as the shortest grain in the centre of the joint, a good display but a professional would have used a coping saw for cutting out that dovetail.

If you look at the last image, at 3:43, you can see that the dove tail has separated from its base - i.e., the fit was too tight. I believe this joint if strictly for looks, to display his hand tool ability. As a woodworker and mechanical engineer I not only wonder about the efficacy of the joint but also not using a fret saw to remove the bulk of the waste. I must admit, it IS a pretty joint if it doesn't fail. It's strength would be a less than a simple lap joint.

for horizontal stress it may be ok but for vertical stress it is not strong

is this some kind of joke? don't you know that dove tail is just going to pop right off, if there is any kind of force applied to it? who makes tail perpendicular to wood grain? this guy doesn't even have basic understanding of material he is working with.

My thoughts exactly! Even if this pretty joint was glued up, it's inherently weak due to the short-grain. A simple cross-halving with decent wood glue would be much stronger.

@@ParaBellum2024 obviously, the simpler solution would be not having the middle piece, and just make one slot with slanted sides. And cut the one tenon on the perpendicular piece accordingly. which is commonly used joint for this type of situation. fancier doesn't always mean better, if not thought out logically.

Cet assemblage n'est pas du tout solide,la queue d'aronde au centre va fendre et donc est inutile.De plus,quand on sait travailler,on scie la moitié du trait,et on ne retouche pas au ciseau.Bricolage!

Показанное в видео крепление деталей говорит только о том, что у автора богатое воображение. И не более того. С точки зрения практики это соединение не имеет технического преимущества перед другими типами соединения. Это просто клоунада.
