A Flight in the Grace Spitfire

Once every now and then you get the change to do something you always wanted to do, and for me this was it. Since I was a little boy I dreamed of going up for a flight in ML407 the Grace Spitfire. Now in my mid 30s that dream has come true. It’s a day I will treasure for the rest of my life. Thank you so much to everyone who turned up to watch me, and thank you so much to Ultimate Warbird Flights for making the day so special, I couldn’t recommend them enough for such a wonderful day. They really did make me, my family and my friends feel so welcome and all part of the experience.

Well done you ! What a treat ! That has to be the ultimate" things to do before you die !" If you'd done this last month l would have gone up in the one that came down to Exeter and we could have compared notes ! When l finish my "e"type and /or TR6 l WILL be going up! Richard's mother ,Caroline used to fly this as you probably know . She really flew the Spitfire beautifully ! I have photo's of the children standing by the Grace Spitfire at Boscombe Down in 1990 ! And l have loads of photo's of me at Goodwood dressed up in period gear when l went up in a Tigermoth . And finally (!) I have a video of me at Duxford flying alongside MH434 in a De Havilland Dragon Rapide ! I'm so pleased for you .You absolutely deserve it ! Just imagine how many flights you could take if you charged for all the help you give to fellow TR owners ! 🤔.....😅 Of course we know you better than that ! Cheers Steve !

Yeah, it’s a thought isn’t it, but then as an old friend of mine said to me, advise is free, getting my hands dirty you’ve got to pay for. I used to see Carolyn regularly in the pub I drink in at Sywell, and of course flying the Spitfire, I didn’t know her, but you just know the face. She has now retired from flying and lives back in her native Australia, while her son Richard has made the business run up to what it now is at Sywell. The Grace Spitfire has always fascinated me, with its history during the war, then with Nick Grace restoring it and sadly passing away, and Carolyn deciding to carry on for him. She carried a great claim to fame being the only female Spitfire pilot for many years. When I heard the Grace Spitfire was coming to Sywell some years back it really did make me happy and make me think I’ve got to go up in it now. And at last that dream has come true 😃👍🏻

It did mate, it really did. After the flight, once I got out and took a look around all I wanted to do was get back in and go again. The roar of the engine on take off, I think my face says it all. Magic, just true magic 👍

That must have been wonderful seeing Goodwood from the Skies in a Spitfire. It means so much to me going up in Gracie, seeing Sywell, a place that means a lot to me, and also Silverstone. And much like you say memories that will last a lifetime 👍

Cheers mate, it was part of the original plan to have both my TR6 and Spitfire at Sywell for the day. However my cousin, who was to drive the Spitfire, is too big to fit in the drivers seat, so that plan got shelved
