Hi Woody! I must say, your demos make me want to buy each synthesizer you get your hands on! I was watching this video and it’s so great that I immediately looked for the Roland JD-XI online and without even realising it, I was looking at all the wrong stuff - because I was pretty sure it was an expensive instrument. Even when I did find it, I was convinced I was looking at the wrong one because I can’t imagine such a miniature synth sounding as good as it does in your video! Thank you so much! I hope the manufacturers do read these comments because thanks to your demos, I bought the rather wonderful Yamaha PSR-SX900 and I am absolutely in love with it. It’s such a gorgeous instrument. Great demo dude, you won me over and I will get mine in a few days ! Most of the demos really suck people as they always seem to be playing heavy dance tunes and stuff on it. Great to see someone using it with a bit more of a dreamy soundscape feel.

Awesome! I just bought this beast today after watching countless videos to make up my mind. This was the one that sent me shopping right away. So many videos of other synths that I want to buy show the synth sounds...but they are attached to different effects pedals and you really never onow how the actual synth sounds. This synth is great all on its own and even better with a bit of extra effects. I'm amazed by the pads also...and the e. piano & FM piano...all excellent sounds. I have a korg Kross 2 and although I love it, the pianos don't compare at all to the JD xi. Great song, Woody!

Just realised it is your channel Woody, who I already subscribe to. Love your channel and still playing catch up with your video (from the UK)! Bought an Electribe 2 recently, and a few Vocal's (not too sure yet...) and thinking of buying the JD-XD and Monologue XD for a bit of non-DAW relief. Still getting back into music after 20 years. Love the DAW, but sometimes just want to Jam. Love the Roland sounds but never had the oppotunity to own one until now (did have a DX7 back in the day, but never realised its potential) and saw how much you got emotional with the JD-XD. Also loved your 80's performance on the Electribe 2 (fantastic)! You are a very talented musician.

hi mikel, most likely they are just amongst the first few patches in the pads category, i didn't spend long exploring. put anything through that low pass filter and it sounds pretty lush,.

Its from the movie Explorers. 80's flick about kids who get messages from outer space and build their own space ship. The images in your clip are the message the aliens send on how to develop the electronics for the kid's ship.

I don't play but was thinking a synth might be interesting for my 12 year old son that plays piano/guitar/drums. Is this a unit that you would consider a good intro synth that he can also grow with for a while or is there a better one out there in your opinion for this purpose?

hi and thanks, sometimes i record filter in the pattern, but probably what you're hearing here is me tweaking the filter in real time, either on pre-recorded notes, or on what i'm playing over the top.

i'm sure that would be a nice combom but quite a lot of overlap, you have many similar sounds and drum-kits in both, similar capabilities etc. unless you really want that analog part on the xi.

Hi Woody, sorry to resurrect an old thread, but just found this and have a quick question: I'm considering a Roland FA-07 and wondered if this sort of tune might be possible on the FA series - both in terms of the sounds and sequencing ( I don't have a lot of experience with sequencers so the pattern sequencer in the JD might be more user-friendly to me). yeah, the fa can do all the sounds of the xi and the sequencer is good too. but i do find the xi to be quicker and more immediate to create tracks, it's cheaper too, but the fa is a more general good all-rounder with wider palette of sounds (piano & orchestral for example).
