This model LIGHT colors, HUGE windows, NUMEROUS windows, RESIDENTIAL appliances, WASHER DRYER no laundromat, ROOMY shower stall, COUNTER on both sides of range, CHAIRS and table no dinnette booth, NO floor registers, POCKET doors, OMG did a woman design this camper? lol Perfect! The only thing I would personally like is ceiling fana. A gentle breeze on the face and air movement are awesome. Good job Clayton. Just now looking for a camper and we're in Atlanta, GA. Oh well. Thank you sir!

You absolutely can pull this with a 3/4. We have a 2500 Duramax. We live in a very high altitude mountainous area and this trailer has been a dream. Not only pulls it up steep mountains without a hitch we have full control on very steep downhill traveling as well.

You are correct, a 3/4 truck will tow this RV no problem. The issue is payload capacity. Most 3/4 ton trucks will not have the payload capacity to carry the weight that the 5er puts on the truck. There is a difference between towing capacity and payload capacity.

I'm LOVING this Fifth Wheel!, Thank you, Mr. Clayton Phillips, for your excellent presentation. By the way Clayton, I worked in sales and I always kept Cold-EEZ cough drops on me for sore throats and fighting off colds. The one thing I wish they would offer the option of color choices in cabinetry--oh well. I really think the size of this Fifth wheel sold me on it. Also, Fifth wheels are practical and useful in this day and age, not just for campers and people wanting to connect with the family and nature and having the ability of not checking in and out of Hotels and being out at a certain time but last not least BEDBUGS!!, It doesn't matter where in the world you go or how Fabulous and 5 stars the accommodations are, bed bugs don't care or discriminate. I think another reason these Fifth wheels and this model in particular makes a whole lot of sense is visiting relatives or kids home from college. I think it's good to have if you need a backup plan-- persons who may need to sell their homes due to downsizing or whatever else this World economy may bring. So thank you for this THUMBS UP.

Very nice video, Clayton. I am happy to see that GD got rid of that raised vessel sink in the bathroom. That one feature steered my wife and I away from the Solitude last year, and we bought a 2018 3560RL Montana with Legacy Package and full body paint. Absolutely love the huge windows over the dinette. Like the under bed drawer and the tip up dresser top. Both very nice features. Wish we would have waited a year to get this one, but the wife loves the decorative open beam in our 5th wheel. We have the outside TV which is lacking on the Solitude. And we have that nice banquet shelf to the side of our dinette table. Wish we had the kitchen window. That is always nice. Very nicely appointed 5th wheel. Thanks!

What an excellent video! Very informative, clear and thorough. I roll my eyes when I hear salesman talk, but this was in no way "salesman-y". Great video - and the most thorough we've seen on the 310GK. One point I would make is that a 3/4 ton truck (as mentioned) is not appropriate for this fifth wheel. We have a Reflection 337RLS (a foot longer than the 310 but only 14,000 lbs. GVWR compared to the 16,000 lbs. GVWR on the 310). The 337RLS loaded puts over 3,000 lbs. on the pin - above the payload capacity for the vast majority of 3/4 ton trucks - especially if diesel and 4WD. You don't want to be one of those dealers known for telling customers, "Oh, your truck will pull anything on our lot." With a fifth wheel, it's not about pulling, it's about payload. We have been full-timers for over four years and plan on moving to a 310GK-R from our Reflection 337RLS this coming March or so.

bhharris, it’s great to hear you like the detail in our videos and the GDRV product even more. The detail below is from a previous post we gave to another viewer who asked the same question. thank you for your question and comments. GDRV does extensive testing on the supplier components they use in their trailers. They do this to flush out any potential ongoing long term reliability concerns, as well as to eliminate as many end user operation concerns and frustrations as possible. Unlike many manufacturers who use market testing to see how products perform and rely on whizzy gimmicks to help sell their products. Grand Design does not want to put these potential burdens on the end customer or dealer if they can avoid it through proper factory testing (hence no cable slides). As it relates to the “Whisper Quiet” A/C systems being used in many products today, to which GDRV was in fact was one of the first manufacturers offered to use the system. GD found through extensive testing that although quiet, it was significantly less efficient in cooling and maintaining the desirable temp in the RV for long periods of time. They found the “Whisper Quiet” system to cycle on an off much more frequently, which can be a bigger burden and drain on the overall performance and longterm reliability of the electrical system, related components, and A/C compressor itself. The main goal of the A/C system in any RV is to cool the RV in the most efficient way possible. GD has found that the “Stealth” A/C duct work, industry leading R-Values, paired with the “Coleman Mach” A/C compressor, is the most efficient on the market today and accomplishes how a high performing A/C system should operate, while ensuring long term reliability and customer satisfaction. Unfortunately Grand Design found that the “Whisper quiet” system does not meet these overall requirements. The nice thing about the GD “Stealth” system is that it isn’t much louder than the “Whisper Quiet” system but is whole bunch more efficient. We hope this answers your question overall. Thanks again for your comments and question!! Happy Camping!! 😀

Very nice unit, our fav and nice demonstration of the unit. But I have to say you are kidding yourself and potential buyers that this can be towed by a 3/4 ton truck. Yes, a 3/4 ton truck can likely pull it, but the dry weight of 12,000 lbs. translates to a pin weight of at least 2400 lbs (20-25%), which is close to or at maximum payload capacity of 3/4 ton trucks and that is for the dry weight. When loaded to the maximum of 16,000 pounds, the pin weight spikes to at least 3200 pounds, way over the payload capacity of 3/4 ton trucks. Plain and simple this fifth wheel needs to be towed by a 1-ton truck. I just met a couple who have one and are towing it with a 3/4 ton truck and they said they have to be sure to empty their tanks before travel. I wish dealers would stop misleading people with what size vehicle it takes to tow a given trailer.

Like the video, but have to agree, a 3/4 ton gas will not tow this rig safely. In fact many 1 tons wont. If you have an accident and you exceed your tow ratings, your insurance will not cover one cent of damage. Be safe and do the research. Use this link to research your trucks towing capabilities: www.trailerlife.com/trailer-towing-guides/

Agreed - The RV Industry and Truck manufactures need to do a better job educating buyers on Payload ratings vs tow capabilities. The avg buyer has no idea about payload and because of that there are many owners towing an RV that exceeds their payload.

Unfortunately, my Ford F350 isn't enough to tow this RV. Looking at the specs from GD...it's too much weight for me. I guess I'll have to go with the Reflection 295RL :(
@rob1484
@rob1484 5 жыл бұрын
My 3/4 ton is effectively at its max towing a Reflection 337. The 310 Solitude loaded might put me over my rear axle weight, so I didn't want to risk it. You might be able to tow it with a 1 ton SRW, but that's as low as I'd go for this.

Does this unit have a roof-mounted solar option? Is there a particular reason why Grand Design doesn't use a whisper-type hidden AC unit? I like the change to the solid shower door, friction-type main door, and the linen color furniture. Would be nice if the LED lights around the theater seating were white versus the over-the-top blue. Thanks for the informative video.

Bryce Matson, sorry we forgot to answer your solar question. On the Solitude and Momentum products GDRV has a direct conduit from the roof to the pass through storage compartment. This allows the end user the ability to easily install and run the wires for both solar and satellite systems. If you have a portable solar panel they do have the Furion plug and play adapter on on the RV’s they build. We hope this answers your question on the solar. Thanks again and take care.😀

JAnn K, great questions! The video on the 310GK best shows and describes what you get in the current Solitude. There are 2 decor choices which includes Java (dark) and Linen (light) and this choice only changes the Tri-fold Sofa and Theatre seating, everything else stays the same. Bathroom sink is not stainless steel and the minimal amount of carpet is located on the floor of the main slide. We’ve also provided a link to the GDRV website that gives the basic overview of their warranties. If you would like to know more, you would need to review an owners manual. This could be found at your local dealer. If we are that dealer please feel free to stop by and we will do our best to assist you. JAnn K, thank you again for your question. One of the things that has really elevated GDRV above other manufacturers in quality is how they’ve simplified the manufacturing process. To answer your question, GDRV doesn’t offer special request items on factory orders. In doing this they’ve really been able to help eliminate the confusion on the assembly line that comes along with special requests in turn offering a better quality product. There are however things that we can do at the dealer level to accomplish what you’re hoping to achieve. If you would like to explore further we would be happy to go over these details with you. Feel free to reach out and speak to one of our knowledgeable RV Lifestyle Specialists at 780-986-1234. Thank you again for the question and we hope to speak with you soon!! Warmest Regards!! Well, I have to say I do both and I have a Grand Design 303RLS. I had a Class C (motor home with the overhang over the cab) for fourteen years that I originally bought for tailgating. When a new stadium was built and you needed season tickets or an expensive parking pass we moved the Class C to a campground that we visit on weekends and holidays but we still take "regular" vacations. We never used the motorhome for a travel vacation. Well, this summer we went to Bar Harbor, Maine. We always said we were going to take the motor home on a trip and this was going to be it. The main reason is because we have dogs. Well, after factoring the cost of gas plus the nightly stay at the campground we went with a pet friendly hotel instead. That was when we decided to get rid of the motor home. There are so many pet friendly hotels now (we have two little dachshunds that travel well), that I would rather have a comfortable vehicle to travel in and relax when we arrived. Obviously, unless you stay somewhere with a kitchen you're not going to have that benefit that you get from an RV, but it's also nice to be on vacation and not have to do anything yourself. Again you would have to factor that in. My wife and I both work from home and she likes to get away which is why we got the fifth wheel. If we left the motor home on the site and didn't use it, it was eventually going to turn to doo doo. Plus my wife was always claustrophobic in it so now she has the high ceilings she always wanted with the fifth wheel. Maybe in the future we'll get a truck to tow it but for now, if we want to take a vacation without flying and want to take the dogs, a nice comfortable vehicle and a nice hotel will do the trick.

Nice Video.. Thanks woody,s Rv... Do you believe that Grand design lacks the better laminated side Walls eg vacuum seal laminated side walls etc .. Very complicated in my opinion but important .. The key for me is what would it look like in five years ???
@WoodysRVWorldOfficial
@WoodysRVWorldOfficial 5 жыл бұрын
jonathan palmer, great comment and question. We feel the merits of either laminated wall could be argued either way, depending on what aspects of the lamination process you believe to be better. The fact is that 90-95% of either process is virtually the same when comparing vacuum vs pinch rolled lamination. The last 5-10% is really all we’re talking about, to which each process can both have their pluses and minuses. The bottom line is that it doesn’t really matter how you get to the finish line. In the end both products are laminated and that’s what you want in your RV sidewall construction. Please remember that it’s not only about the sidewall, but all the other things that make a trailer great and long lasting. Please feel free to reach out to one of our very knowledgeable RV Lifestyle Specialists if you would like to discuss or if you’re in the area please feel free to stop by anytime. Insulation in the pass-through? Bead welding on the supports but why not put thick insulation between the beams. Seems all RV manufacturers cut corners.
@WoodysRVWorldOfficial
@WoodysRVWorldOfficial 5 жыл бұрын
djack41, great question and comments. There is no question that sometimes RV manufacturers need to leave some things out that would seem so easy to add. I can share that they walk an extremely fine cost vs benefit line when they develop product, as its really easy to over inflate the manufacturing cost unnecessarily. As it pertains to the pass through storage and why they don’t add insulation between the upper deck aluminium studs. In our opinion and I’m sure GDRV’s also, it was one of those items they didn’t need for 98% of RVers looking to buy the product. With that said, if adding more R-value to the upper deck floor is important to you, were certain it could be done at the dealer level quite easily. Remember though the floor you referring to is in the middle of a heated compartment with the main floor at the bottom of the compartment is insulated up to R-45 already, so it may not be totally necessary. We hope this info helps a little. Take care!!😀

@WoodysRVWorldOfficial 5 жыл бұрын
Dennis D, great question and thank you for the comments! GDRV for 2019 eliminated the bumper and replaced it with a 3000lb receiver hitch and flat 4 wiring. Bumpers in the industry have had issues peeling off when bike racks have been mounted to them while the trailer is in transport. The nice thing about the receiver and wiring is you can actually tow a boat or quad trailer behind, or just simply mount a bike rack without any worry of the bikes peeling off and getting damaged, or worse yet injuring someone or damaging a vehicle traveling behind. GD has also mounted a sewer hose tube underneath the trailer that will hold the bigger sewer hoses that people use today. Unfortunately the bumpers that typically house the sewer hoses don’t necessarily hold the larger hoses of today and the plugs fall out all the time. We feel that GDRV has provided a significant upgrade that has many benefits that outweigh the old school bumper. Thanks again for your comments and watching our video. Take Care and Happy Camping!!😀

Jonathan Washington, thank you for your kind comment and we appreciate you seeking our thoughts on what would work best for you and your family. It’s difficult to give you exact makes and models without knowing more about your current situation, needs, and wants. I think the best advise I can give at this point with limited information is to first find the floor plan in the type of RV that would suit you best. Floor plan is the #1 reason why almost everyone picks the RV they do. Once you have determined that you can then determine the feature content, quality, and price range. Based on that info you will then be able to decide if the RV that’s checks most of those boxes will need to be new or used. There are a lot of factors that go in to selecting an RV and it can be overwhelming at times. If you have more questions and would like to further this with a phone conversation, we would be happy to assist or at least steer you in the right direction and possibly recommend a dealer closest to you to check out. Please call 780-986-1234 or email cphillips@woodysrv.com and we can take it from there. We hope this somewhat helps give you direction on what step to take next. Please know we are here to help in any way we can. Thanks for your time and consideration!! Team Woody’s RV Leduc!!👍😀

Too bad you're in Canada, eh? I'm in California. I've been researching getting a rig and going full time, and of all the videos I've watched from other full-timers, I think I do like Grand Design's features best. That said, (and this goes for ALL manufacturers), I do wish they'd offer the sofas with cloth upholstery. Faux leather or even real leather LOOKS nice...at first. But if you have pets, particularly cats, (even if they are accidental scratches), it will look torn up and shabby in no time flat. Cloth is more forgiving and easier to patch if need be. And one other flaw in most designs: DARK wood! It makes the interior look cave-like unless you're running the lights on all the time. A lighter wood option would be nice. ;)

@WoodysRVWorldOfficial
@WoodysRVWorldOfficial 5 жыл бұрын
passat vw, great questions. There are many factors that can affect the performance of a generator like elevation, temperature, electrical load, etc.. With that said, according to Cummins specs on the 5500 watt Onan LP generator, the average fuel consumption is as follows. On a full 30lb LP tank, Full load capacity your run time would be approx 6.5 hours. Half load capacity runtime is just over 9 hours. No load runtime is approx 16 hours. Please note this is on the LP generator only, the gasoline version is less efficient. In Canada to my knowledge there are no lifetime warranty programs available. We as a dealership, on a new RV can offer up to 6 additional years on top of the basic 1 year warranty provided by the manufacturer, which would give you a total of 7 years warranty coverage. We hope this answers your questions. Thank you again for your committed support to our videos!! Take care!! Team Woody’s RV Leduc😀

Hallo, looked at the specs of this trailer and I do think there is something wrong with the weight ratings. GVWR says 15.000 lbs, axle rating says 7.000 lbs. If there are two axles I do miss 1.000 lbs to GVWR. So I do think max. GVWR can be only 14.000 lbs!? Thanks a lot in advance for an information. Regards V.

Of the 15K weight almost 3 K of it is on the truck and not on the trailer axles.

@brandoncaldwell95 5 жыл бұрын
Do the math bud. 20-25% overall weight is on the pin box/gear not the axles. Thats 2500 - 3200lbs on the tow vehicle. That's 1 ton towing or larger. All trailers are rated like such. Look at BigTex 40ft flatdecks. They are rated 28,000lbs yet run 2 12,000lbs axles. 20-25% tongue weight makes up the rest.

What size of generator fits under door. Will it run both a/c and frig.
@WoodysRVWorldOfficial
@WoodysRVWorldOfficial 5 жыл бұрын
passat vw, 5500 watt Onan LPG generator is the recommended generator to fit inside the underneath storage. This size of generator should operate both the A/C and the fridge at the same time. Depending on what else you have running inside the RV you may need turn off or run the fan only on one of the A/C units to free up more power. The Onan LP generator is approx $8000 CDN give or take if it has gen-prep already installed. If it doesn’t there will be an additional charge for wiring. We typically option in gen-prep on all the Solitudes we stock. We hope this answers your questions. Cheers!! Team Woody’s Leduc!!😀

@WoodysRVWorldOfficial
@WoodysRVWorldOfficial 5 жыл бұрын
passat vw, thanks for the question. This is a tough question to answer because what people consider to be loud can vary. However with that said, when the generator is running it’s actually not to bad at all, just keep in mind it is an engine running. GDRV does a really good job in the structure and framework that supports the generator. The powder-coated steel is physically welded to the chassis. The benefit to this is that it minimizes the noise and vibration transfer up inside the coach, plus the housing the generator sits inside helps to reduce noise transfer as well. If you wanted to add more sound buffering material there is lots of room to do so. We hope this answers your question. Thanks again and take care!!

Because of Winnebagos quality focus, they specifically bought Grand Design because they shared the same product quality and customer service focus. fit4ya1975, great question and comments. First let me say that I misspoke in the video and mixed up the floor and roof ratings. The Solitude has R-45 in the floor and R-40 in the roof. The information that we share in the videos is provided to us by the manufacturer. From what we’ve been told, GD achieves their R-Values in the floor and roof by using a combination of both a blanket batt insulation and an astro-foil thermal barrier. This is how they acquire the higher “R” values without the roof and floor thickness normally required to achieve the same “R” ratings. We hope you find this information useful and gives some deeper insight. Thanks again for your comments and questions. Take care and Happy Camping!!😀

If you like the idea of a high profile 5W we would recommend looking at the Solitude S-Class at 34’4”. If that is still to long you could look at the Reflection 303RLS at 32’5”. All of these floor plans virtually share the same floor plan characteristics. Another option in the Reflection line up is the 29RS at 30’11” or if you need to get under 30’ you could look at the 230RL Reflection at 28’1”. We hope this gives you a little more insight and gets you going in the right direction. Thanks for watching the video!! Take care😀
