I’m a natural fiber knitter and I mostly shop at LYS. I was so happy to find K + C Superwash Wool Luxe in the nearest Joann store (it’s the biggest store of about a half dozen Joann stores in my metro region ). I bought a few balls in the store to swatch up and really liked this yarn. I agree it’s a very good dupe for Malabrigo Rios, one of my favorite yarns for quick, easy care gifts. I also agree that the yarn is not a CYC 2 and US size 10 needles are much too big for typical stockinette stitch fabric. I have swatched it at various needles from US 4-8 and made a couple baby gift items with the yarn. I have determined I prefer to knit this yarn to a DK gauge with size 6/4.0 mm needles. This allows for the inevitable fiber relaxation after washing, especially if knitted in all ribbed patterns. Superwash merino doesn’t shrink if washed in the washing machine. Actually, it more often seems to stretch out of shape. I think the superwash process smooths the already soft merino fibers so much that the stitches relax a bit too much after washing. Malabrigo Rios and many other superwash merino yarns do the same thing, whether washed by hand or in a garment bag with Cooll water temp and a Hand Wash/Wool or Delicate machine cycle. So I always wash all my superwash wool swatches to see how much the knit fabric will relax and change gauge/dimensions before I choose a size for garment knits. Even though I am not a tight or loose knitter, I often have to go down a needle size or two to make a superwash merino wool knit fabric that will won’t relax too much and “grow”after washing. I ordered more yarn online for store pickup but it took 3 days for the order to be ready because the store is so short staffed. In the meantime, half of the K + C Superwash Wool Luxe yarn had sold in the store and was canceled from my order. Also the balls in the store had been handled a lot and were a bit messy. Plus, typical of big box store pickup yarn orders, the dye lots rarely matched. Additionally, I discovered my nearest Joann store (an extra big one) also now stocked some LB Collection yarns, Lion Brand’s premier yarns that I have only ever seen available online in recent years. I have ordered some of these yarns directly from Lion Brand in the past, so I bought more at Joann’s (100% Baby Alpaca, Maka Cotton, and Cotton Jeans). The in-store color selection is limited, however, compared to the full color line at LionBrand.com. So to reduce the disappointment of in-store yarn stock being sold out before my pick up order could be fulfilled, and to increase the likelihood of matching dye lots, I ordered more of the premier natural fiber K+C yarns and LB Collection yarns from Joann.com for delivery. Ordering 10+ of a color online also sells at a slightly lower “bulk” price, too, plus the online promo code was 25% with free shipping vs 20% for store pickup orders. So I mostly ordered 10 or more of the yarns/colors I wanted to add to my stash. Delivery wasn’t fast, but it did eventually arrive after various delivery delay status messages, and only one item in my order was canceled because it was already sold out. FYI, if ordering yarn from Joann.com for delivery, Superwash Wool Luxe is packaged in bags of 3 balls. The CYC #1 fingering/sock weight handdyed hanks of yarn also mentioned on this video is packaged 5 hanks to a bag. Ordering full bags improves the chance that the dye lots will match and it makes storing stashed yarn a bit easier. The SUPR961 promo code for 25% off reg & sale prices with free shipping g for $49+ orders was still valid on Feb 5 or 6 when I placed a second delivery order for more K+C Superwash Wool Luxe and some other natural fiber yarns that are only available at Joann.com online for delivery.

Shannon, I'm so glad to see you talk about and review the k+c luxe wool. That's one that I want bunches of. FYI, gazzal unicorn is exactly the same yarn, but different colors. I have some of each and they are exactly the same.

I have a scarf started with that yarn. It’s good stuff! I don’t make sweaters(yet) but every time I come across a yarn I really like I find myself wanting a blanket quantity of it and have to tell myself “You can’t have a blanket quantity of every yarn!”

Cheers to the process, kindred Spirit. When I feel like "just finish something", I pull out odd balls of yummy stash yarn, and make a hat in between. I am deeming this "finish it February". Goal is to finish 5 UFO's, and in addition, I can start whatever I want, with whatever I want (and using yarns you enabled me to buy from JoAnn ;) ). No grandchildren, just grandkitties. Maybe I need to make a cat hammock....lol. Had a bunch of dental work, so working on cozy blanket, and a cotton market bag, and a shawl....and a partridge in a pear tree.

Storage space have left me wanting for sure. Even though I got these at a fantastic discount I don’t think I went way overboard. There was plenty left for the next person in store and a lot more online. This has fabulous stitch definition too.

I didn’t knit a gauge swap for the hats, I made two large ones for men that I knew that had big heads, the hats fit perfectly. I knitted with Barroco, vintage alpaca, black, and a gray held together. Yeah, no gauge swatch, no nothing. I just put these yarns together and I made these hats and they were perfect lol. easy Peezy pattern. I only made one change to the pattern, of course you know I’ve had to make a change right?! Body of the hat I did a pearl stitch instead of a stitch for the ribbing. They ask you to do a knit through the back loop but I didn’t like the way that was working out so I did a pearl stitch instead. Whatever you want, you know what this hat is so easy, and so forgiving, you’re gonna love it.

I love the Bankhead Hat. I have made it twice so far. I did buy the Wool Luxe a couple months ago. I purchased the Pomegranate. I haven't use it, though, but I have something in mind for it. I sure wish I had purchased the Bordeaux. It's really pretty knit up.

It’s definitely worth checking out in person. If you can buy online pickup in store you’ll save money. Of course not all the yarns in the store are listed online. Mine had the Big Twist Value Christmas color skeins in the store but not listed in the app.

I have crocheted with the K&C yarn in that exact color to make my daughter a scarf and I used the lavender color to make my other daughter a shawl both for xmas2024. They turned out better than expected. They yarn is very easy to use and you are correct about the stitch definition. Saw this am the 40% off and used the 20% store pickup coupon to order more. Stocking up (aka panic buying) is real!

I think I saw a tweed and didn’t get any because as you said, it wasn’t in “my colors”. I really do like tweed yarns though. I’ve enjoyed my Menagerie and Vortex projects. I wasn’t impressed with the feel enough to purchase the Jelly Bean so I can’t say how it works up. The colors were very enticing though.

I know I told myself no more yarn. but Like you my room is so full!!! I almost can't get to my clothes!!! I can barely get to my bed!! I love the Wool Luxe but not the price. I did buy splurge on a ball of the golden color because it was irresistible. I made a ribbed beanie that came it too small, so I donated it and bought another ball (at full price!) to make myself a stockinette one. It’s been my goto beanie this winter. A sweater in it would be a dream but I can’t justify the price.

That golden color is swoon worthy. Starting price $14.99 what I got these for $6.40 that I can do. After getting the stunning hanks of K&C sock wool in gorgeous hand dyed color pallets fir $4.98 I didn’t think I’d get any of the Luxe it wasn’t dropping down under $11.24 so when I realized I could get at this discount I had to get them.

You have a point regarding the yarns, each is special for different reasons. I think JoAnn dropped the ball on these. They are lovely and with the coupons JoAnn had it really brought these higher end type yarns into a price point so many more people could try and experience if interested. The colors are stunning and that stitch definition pops.

How do you know if a variegated yarn is going to stripe or just mottle or whatever it is going to do?

I think partly by seeing it so many times. Others if there are long pieces side by side in the skein will sometimes mean it will stripe.

The K&C looks like a 3 or 4, I would definitely feel comfortable using that even though it's labeled a 2 weight. I guess on the upside, you'll be able to get rid of the app off your phone🤷🏼‍♀️ but seriously it's very unfortunate ☹️

I believe with the label as a 2 and it not being in a lot of the physical stores it turned people off to trying it. It has great stitch definition too.

Yes, the app is still working for me. I was able to use it to buy online and pickup in the store. I saved a lot of money doing it that way too.
