I actually really like his stun pylon. If you place it in a strategic spot (especially when you get the teleporter in an area with really clear bottleneck approaches) it lets you just entirely focus on the boss, then occasionally look down and go "Oh hey, like 40 dudes trapped in my circle that's conveniently about the same size as an orbital strike"

Honestly, I think the captain is one of the best, most balanced characters in the game. He has the most versatility in the game with his primary(except for mul-t), a decent crowd control option, an insanely powerful "utility", and the supply beacons are just crazy. The reason he isnt overpowered is because of how dependent on items he is. He has one of the slowest primaries in the game, a pretty meh secondary, and ALL of his mobility comes from items.

Great video and advice! I just wanted to add a few comments. 1. Additional stacks of the defensive microbots can be obtained by killing your doppelganger from artifact of vengeance, this is how you unlock the item for your logbook 2. The Visions of Heresy lunar item gives him 12 orbital probe shots, similar to the huntress ballista glitch (Fixed in 1.0 ) 3. For some reason the new equipment Gorag’s Opus does not work at all with the Captain (Fixed in 1.0 ) 4. The hacking beacon only works on interactables that cost gold, so you can't hack lunar pods and 3d printers Edit: 5. Only the first shot from orbital probe does 1500% damage, the second two do only 500% damage each (Fixed in 1.0, now does 1000% on all three attacks )

I was leaning towards an alternative to the beacon system where instead of getting two beacon summons you could carry one as a backpack (with some tweaking to them) and it could be unlocked via beating void fields with him (as it currently is no beacons or orbital strikes). Then if you don’t have the backpack equipped and instead have the two drops equipped, then for void fields it auto swaps to that and will reequip the drop beacons afterwards

One thing I found about the Captain is that the Shock Beacon is good for crowd you can't quite deal with at the moment. It constantly lets out shocks at a rate that makes it effectively stun-locks enemies as long as they are in the area. This also helps if you can lead enemies INTO the beacon, they can't escape.

I love the captain, and feel like I have a new appreciation for playing Risk of Rain 2, given the effectiveness of scooping up emergency drones and healing drones with the microbots. He's SO Fun to play with artifact of glass just from how much work the microbots put in alone, let alone how hard the orbital actions kick ass. Also, with the reduced health, I'm less likely to go into void fields and feel sad.

The shotgun combined with the new boss item from the imo overlord (bleed on crit) is amazing because when captain gets a crit, all his projectiles and not just some of them will be crits, means you can stack pretty insane numbers of bleed on enemies with just little crit chance.

I think the shock beacon works pretty well with the healing beacon to create a space where you can heal and fight the boss safely as the shocking beacon stops all the smaller enemies from getting close. That works incredibly well when combined with an engineer and his shield and turrets

My friend and I were playing with the Captain with the artifact turned on so that you pick your items. My friend found out that if you get a Vision of Heresy it will make your Orbital Probe have 12 shots instead of 3. So he started up picking up every lunar pod, and ended up with over 70 shots of Orbital Probe on a single use.

@@Van.Elison So, aside from the obvious baiting and shaming for people playing certain characters because they enjoy them... Engineer auto-fires when fully charged. As does the Artificer. The Captain is the only character you can hold the charge in for an infinite amount of time. You can't hold the mouse down and eventually have it fire. And with the captain, the way to do the most damage is to repeatedly hit your mouse button, which can cause damage when you get to certain attack speed levels. Have it charge up and then fire, or make it so you can adjust it, idk but as it is the optimal gameplay is not good for either the mouse or the player.

​@@Van.Elison Uhm... if he auto-fired at the same rate he click fires now... he'd be OP? Doesn't that mean he is OP now? Auto-Fire doesn't mean speed up his fire rate. It literally just means you don't have to click every second. The Engineer is charging his attack to gain power, and some of Artificer... unlike Captain who does it so they can hit someone far away reducing their effectiveness close range and due to being a charge his shots come out slightly slower as it is based not on pressing but releasing.

Oh, and there's currently a little trick with beacons: 1. Get backup mag. If you go to the beacon call-in mode you will see a "1" above your M2 beacon. 2. When in beacon call-in mode, pick up a bandolier ammo pack 3. You now have two M2 beacons. 4. You can get as many extra M2 beacons as you have backup mags. Trick will not work if you place your last M2 beacon, so don't expend it. I'm sure I don't have to explain to the synergy between equipment beacon, kill dolls spawning bandolier, squids, and firecracker.

I tried doing double shocking beacons for a few runs...and actually kind of loved it. The ability to trap all the ground enemies in a TP event simply by running circles around both beacons is extremely fun and then BOOM you can blow them all up in one orbital strike. Makes a horde of elite elder lemurians a cakewalk.

Visions of Heresy is an arguably good item for Captain aswell: When you use your utility it replaces your normal attack to enable you to select targets, Visions of Heresy gives 12 charges to your normal attack, Suddenly you have 12 shots of your utility.

A fun interaction with Orbital Probe is with Visions of Heresy is that the number of shots will actually go from 3 to however many shots you have from Visions, so with 1 you get 12 shots, 2 you get 24, all doing the 1500% damage PoG

I was extremely underwhelmed by the Captain at first... and then I unlocked the free item pod and picked up a few tri-tip daggers. The captain scales very very well into the late game with a proc game capable of competing with Mul-T. Also if anyone is having trouble landing the orbital cannon shots, just fire it at your feet while running away and all the enemies following you will get annihilated by it. Really good for dealing with Lesser Imps, Crabs etc etc

Hey Woolie quick note; You can actually get extra Microbots from the Umbra of Captain if you have the Artifact of Vengeance enabled. When you kill one of the Umbras, it will always drop an item from your inventory. This includes Captain's Microbots. At time of writing, this is the only way to get their logbook entry.

it should be noted, as i had this tested during one of my runs, that the orbital strike is based off of the number of your attacks of your basic attack, minimum being 3, BUT this can be changed and can scale by 'Visions of Heresy', a lunar item that replaces your basic attack with stacks of rechargeable projectiles with the starting stack being 12, so as long as its recharged to max stacks the orbital strike can fire literally 12 shots of orbital strikes because of visions, this also means it scales, a second visions will grant you 24 shots and so on, pretty niche compared to most builds but honestly purely fun

I love the captain for his primary alone, a shotgun that does big damage, what's not to love? I saw the complaint on the Reddit post from your last video about spam clicking but that personally is not an issue for me. The orbital probe is also great. With that out of the way, the rest of his kit is lackluster. You basically forget his M2 and beacons exist late game (I haven't been able to unlock the hacking probe cause rng fucks me, but while it's powerful it's still not very interesting game-play wise edit: I've unlocked it now but haven't used it in a run). Although you could argue this is a "problem" most survivors have in general since items eventually take over for pretty much everything. I was hoping we'd be getting a survivor with actual substantial support abilities, while many (me included) mainly play solo it'd certainly encourage co-op play more if a character could benefit more from having other players around. His beacons don't really scale at all, I'm not sure which stat to attach it to but it'd be nice if they got a range increase from something at least. If you are playing co-op, an engineer turret with fungus is just an infinity better healing beacon because it does scale *and* isn't once or twice per stage. Shock beacon can lockdown an area pretty well but that area is too small. Resupply beacon I'd personally never use because it's not that important to have a limited refill for my equipment item most of the time. and again I haven't been able to use his hack beacon but it sounds useful yet boring.

Really agree with ur views. While the hacking beacon can make legendary chest free, it takes a minute or two to unlock it becuz its much more expensive. Pass the first loop u start to earn a lot more money up to the point u can unlock any chest anytime u look at it. And really, shock beacons and heal becons doesnt scale well into the late game and since its only one charge and small aoe, even random team mates in multi player rooms wouldn't bother making use of them, so im left with hacking and resupply beacon that mostly benefits myself only The value beacons offer gets lower the longer the run goes... Really the only defining strength of captain is his shotgun One can easily think captain is op because of the damage he pumps out with the shotgun, then proceeds to overlook the fact the rest of his kit is actually just somewhat on par with or weaker than other survivors in the grand scheme of things. This makes captain balanced

I love the Captain, and I didn't expect to. I usually don't love spam-click characters that I can't just hold down the button to spray and pray but they did a really good job with this one. He's quickly becoming my new main. Also while he greatly prefers gettin Abyssal Depths because of his hacking beacon getting Siren's Call isn't even that bad since with his ridiculous base DPS and ability to completely negate the ground pound ability of the Alloy you can very quickly kill it even with mediocre items.

Some of the things I love about this guy are: 1.) His shotgun can pretty consistently one-shot elite wisps on stage 1 2.) He has a 100-0 true combo against golems on stage 1 (taser, triple airstrike, and sometimes a shotgun blast or two) 3.) Free Legendary Chests, baby 4.) IMO best primary skill in the game 5.) His passive is nuts, as is the stun duration on his taser

Get this game it is a fun game and on sale for xbox for only 12 dollars (included tax with the price) although console has to wait until fall for the captain. All other colsoles or pc it us 30 dollars still a great game for 30 dollars

Not sure if this has been noted anywhere yet, but I did this with a friend and it worked. Using artifacts of sacrifice and vengeance, and then not grabbing any items until 10 minutes, you can kill your own clones and they will drop the microbots. It's possible for them to drop it later on, but if you have any other item, the chance is instantly reduced to the normal 1%. I did this with a friend at the start of a run giving him microbots as well and it's a very fun way to start, although it does corner you into having these 2 artifacts and not having command

You should try stacking visions of Heresy, with 5 you can spam click m1 to drop 60 air strikes to nuke anything.

I am loving captain. My fave survivor by far. However, there are a few items i think are absolute god tier on him with his shotgun primary. The new way bleed stacks, tri-tip dagger and the new shatterspleen boss item are absolutely amazing on captain, as well as the shattering justice. One shot from his primary and it shreds their armor. Shattering justice is my favorite item to get on captain. It’s absolutely amazing on him.

I kind of like how you can’t use utility/ultimate on some stages. It adds to the whole “risk” vs reward theme. Also it just wouldn’t make sense to be able to use those abilities without the orbiter (as that is literally where the attacks come from).

No, heavily disagree. It’s a stupid, useless mechanic. “Lore” and logic shouldn’t matter in a video game, especially one as unrealistic as this one. Like, what’s next? Giving Commando limited ammo because he shoots bullets - and we need to explain why he has infinite bullets? Or how about Engineer needing an excuse to use his turrets, because where do _those_ come from, hm? It’s a totally ridiculous decision that needs to be scrapped. Aiden, I agree. Although the reason for why he can't access it through other dimensions is pretty lame, it makes sense. Like, we are on a planet that is defying any and all of our logic. But where is the ship? IN SPACE! The ship is limited by the laws of our universe, but the Captain is on the logic destroying planet. The ship may just experience an hour or two, but on the planet can time move differently for even those who is on it. I think that the lore have explained a lot of things that we can use to explain the planet and it's laws of chaos.

My favorite thing to do with captain is to use command to get drone parts and then pick up every drone I can, then just watch as nothing can touch me but hit-scan, and nothing can get near me because drones go brr

shock beacon seems to be useful for stunning large waves of monsters when you're feeling overwhelmed by the number of monsters on a stage. it kinda helps with a lot of the hordes of ground monsters when you use sacrifice+swarms artifacts. this in mind, using the two artifacts is pretty fun since you can easily rack up enough gold to just continuously buy out bots for a memey anti-projectile run.

I think you underated the shock beacon, my preference is a shock and hack, as the shock beacon keeps enemies permanently stunned, if you just slap it in the teleporter it makes it much easier to manage and you really only need 1 hacking beacon

He made it SO MUCH easier to get to the end on monsoon because i had 1 healing drop and 1 hacker bot And hes the only one i have made it with. Ive gotten SO CLOSE with the others and SO MANY TIMES with my girl Artificer but none yet (I will only do it with artifacts off)

Actually found the Artificer the HARDEST one to get the skin on. That was before the Sky Meadows/Artifcacts update and 1.0 which imo have significantly increased the overall difficulty. Good luck with the rest of them. The first one I did it with was the Engineer, I was so pleased until I realised they hadn't even released an unlockable skin for him at that point...

He scales fairly well like the rest, even without a mobility option. I like the touch of his kit being nullified in other dimensions, as it makes logical sense. They get the Microbots and YES it’s as good as it sounds. You can just negate beetle queens even more, and elder lumerians become useless outside of melee range.

Dont know if anyone alradeay posted this but i have cool bug.. ah ammm features for you, if you switch out Captains Primary Attack throw this one lunar item (yea you gotte loos his M1) and then use ur shift/ utility ability while having your m1 up (all 12) you get 12 uses of ur shift. (it also stacks, i got 60 shifts with one use instead only 3 in one of my runs today)

Though the shocking beacon isn't great at killing stuff, I find its good for setting up orbital strikes, also if placed correctly it can stop smaller enemies from overwhelming you

One of my favorite legendary items to use with the captain is the black hole cube. I love dealing with large crowds of enemies by pulling them into a single point by using a black hole and then summoning 3 air strikes on that exact location. You can also use the Frenzy legendary to use your shotgun like an AR!

He feels a bit op. Especially since he counters the whole Vagrant attack-set and his heal is so strong that you could easily stand still for the 5 seconds the early bosses will take him

His utility is incredibly hard to hit without stunning or slowing. his special scales terribly, and his 2ndary isn't exactly great, due to effectively being single target "stun" that can be canceled, only really being useful for beetle guards and elder lemurians to make sure they get hit by utility, and his primary starts out with a fairly slow attack speed, which, while being able to 1 shot small things and most lesser wisp elites(provided there's a wall), can be a hindrance when being swarmed. Despite this, it is one of the better primary attacks, to carry the fact that he not only loses his utility and special on certain stages, but his 2ndary is fairly garbage. Being good on the early stages doesn't necessarily make someone broken. Also, no mobility on him in general, he needs to kill things before they can kill him until he gets items.

I find that the stun beacons are useful in the teleporter events, use both of them at the same time near each other and they perma stun most enemies in the teleporter radius

I found out yesterday that using the Orbital Strikes with Visions of Heresy actually gives you TWELVE STRIKES IN ONE USE, so long as VoH is off cooldown. No reduction in damage either. Now if you could get a Hardlight Afterburner...
