Welcome to Woolly Goodness! Inspired by our lively (and sometimes silly) team messaging channel, it's our biweekly chat where we share what's new and exciting at BT, what we're knitting now, and of course, dive into plenty of yarn talk!
Grab a cup of tea, pop your headphones on, and join us, won't you?
This time: Stephanie & Kel talk about knitting samples, avoiding the legendary "sweater curse", and their personal knitting journeys.
Let us know what you'd like us to talk about next! Drop your ideas & questions in the comments below.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At Brooklyn Tweed we are passionate about wool, knitting and design.
We develop and manufacture breed-specific wool yarns that support domestic textile production. This means designing, sourcing, dyeing and spinning our yarns 100% within the USA.
We craft our knitwear designs with the same commitment to timeless quality that we apply to our yarns. Every pattern is meticulously drafted and edited to provide clear instructions that empower knitters to build new skills. Our design team explores the intersection of knitting traditions and contemporary style, to produce patterns that are a pleasure to knit and wear.

I started knitting ‘properly’ after my first daughter was born -but Iknit for myself and occasionally my husband, not for my children! My first serious garment was an allover cabled cardigan designed by Christian de Falbe and I knit it in black wool - it turned out great and I continued to knit on and off, but got really back into it about 13 years ago and haven’t stopped since. I now do knit for my grown up daughters, two of whom knit themselves and for my grandchildren and have learned so much from Ravelry, internet etc. My knitting daughters are potentially similarly wool obsessed and my stash gets spread around a bit which is just as well! Brooklyntweed patterns and yarn are amongst my favourites and I am a huge fan 🥰

So glad that Steph was part of my newbie knitting journey. I have a life-long love now and hopefully a friend, too. So proud of you Stephanie, and BT is so lucky to have you. Great to see your smiling face.

I started knitting at the start of COVID. To deal with work stress. It was like yoga for my mind. Now I am hooked. I am a process rather than a product knitter.I make up shawls for now mainly, making it up as I go along as a process. The ‘when‘ of I finish the project is not top of mind nor whether my experiment worked! I just love the meditative process of knitting.🇿🇦

I started knitting in Junior High when they had Home Economics class. My mom crocheted and sister knitted as well but I never used them as resources as I don't think I was interested enough in crafting as I sewed and crocheted too. I went off an on with it for many years and never touched anything until 2009 as I was going through alot personally and never looked back as I found knitting a great reliever of my personal issues. I use it as a hobby for sure but I like to knit everything I think over time I learned patience I think that is why I enjoy it now and not so much before. As Kel I worked in an IT background for years and always used knitting as a release from job. I knit mostly small projects as its portable and gives me a sense of learning. That is why I like Brooklyn Tweed patterns as you have a great layout and I learn something from them other than the design as to finishing and techniques. I knit mostly colorwork especially hats so I see Kel we do have something in common 😁 I still like to learn and Definetly learn more everyday as to books, classes and of course practice and always patience.

Small world! My first real LYS was Fibre Space. We must’ve just missed each other. I started going maybe 2013ish. I love these snippets into other wooly people’s journey. :)

I started knitting when I retired from teaching painting and drawing at a university. I had it in the back of my mind for a while and then one day finally went to a yarn store. That was IT...I am so hooked. I have a big plan list for 2022 which didn't include Camby's but I paused the video and went to the Brooklyn Tweed website and found a color and the pattern. I have way too many things on the needles right now but I'm pretty good about getting the guilty urge to go back and finish things. My worst knitting attribute is that I don't post things on Ravelry out of sheer laziness, but have made a resolution to photograph and post there.

I (Kel) just finished my Cambys! Which color did you choose? What else do you have planned for the year - what a good idea!

@@BrooklynTweed_Official I chose foothills which looks beautiful and I think will look really great with cables. I’m a bit intimidated after hearing you both talk about the beginning of camby’s being tricky but I’ll be brave and definitely post to Instagram when I finish it

@@alisonharris7130 Cambys will be gorgeous in Foothills! It's just a bit fiddly at the beginning when you're getting the raglan shaping going and starting your cable panels and the textured stitch panels. Once you've gotten a few rows in and can see your pattern, it's a breeze! Feel free to pop over to our website & send a message if you have any questions, our amazing pattern support specialist Mary is ready to help!

Started at around 12. My cousin taught me. She taught me crochet also. Crochet stuck. One day an old LYS said looking for knitters on their sign. Hooked again.

VeryPink and Roxanne Richardson are great KZbin knitting teachers! I learned from them about two years ago and it's kept me going through the pandemic. Just one stitch after the other. When you forget how to purl, they will have a video! And maybe start with a short scarf? If you know how to sew, you can quickly make it into a cowl! Hats are harder!
