Now I’m what you would call a virgin to this hobby! I started with nothing too thick like chunky or super chunky just fingering to begin with but I kept ruining the finish it came down to my edging so now I’ve mastered edging and became an absolute king of edging I’m now hearing about dominance. I can not wait to dominantly edge with fingering and no longer be that knitting virgin.

Great question! You can decrease as usual (K2tog, SSK, etc) with this technique, just make sure your color change isn't happening where your decreases are (you might need to change color a few stitches sooner or later). Happy striping!

Does this affect the size of whatever you’re knitting? I have a couple sweater patterns Id love to make reversible
@BrooklynTweed_Official17 күн бұрын
GREAT question! Since the fabric is double-thick, the interior circumference of your garment will be smaller than the outside, so you may want to size up a bit for extra ease. (Also a good tip for chunky weight knits.) This also creates a very warm fabric, so keep that in mind! Happy knitting!

Expremely confusing and with some using the right hand for yarn movement and some the left. Also how to add the new stitch when going through the back or front of the stitch because sometimes it twists when you put it on the needle and sometime it doesn't! Maybe written instructions could be easier. Im off to the wool shop to see whether I've done it correctly or not. And I haven't even got to the main part of the design yet!! Disappointing.

Is this method still possible if the first stitch is purled?
@BrooklynTweed_Official24 күн бұрын
Great question! If you're starting with a purl, you'll reverse the setup steps (so step 1 will be go through first stitch as if to knit, leave on, step 2 will be bring yarn to front, go through 2nd stitch as if to purl, leave on), then start your bind off with purl off, knit on. (From there, you can work your knit off, purl on, purl off, knit on as usual.) Happy knitting!

I love your videos! You explain so well and give lots of details and examples! But I was wondering if you can make a video, where you’re working in the round, and there are increases in the middle of the work. I’m doing a Yoke motif, and it increases every so often all the way around, but it’s like 9 stitches one color, but I realized that if I was catching floats in the previous row below, and I do increases in the next row, sometimes it clashes with the “caught floats” and so the contrast color shows through the work, just as you explained about not catching floats in the same area every row. So I’m trying to figure out how to catch the floats without it landing on the increase stitch, haha but I seem to end up in the same spot every time lol Anyway …. Thank you for the videos!
@BrooklynTweed_Official26 күн бұрын
Great question! It sounds like you're already on the right track, this is one of those situations where you have to experiment until you find that right spot to catch the float (unfortunately there's not a handy formula that we know of!)

@BrooklynTweed_Official28 күн бұрын
Great question! Mary's constructed her swatch here as if she's knitting the neckband of a sweater, so she's worked the ribbing by picking up along the top edge of a stockinette piece - this creates that nice row of stitches on the inside that are easy to whipstitch into.

THANK YOU!!!! I have been stuck on a sweater collar for 3 days, trying to figure out the best way to deal with short rows in half-twisted rib. I was halfway there, but spent hours today stuck on how best to wrap and resolve in order to hide them all in the RS purls. Out of dozens of videos and tutorials on the subject, yours explains and demonstrates technique for standard ribbing in a clear, concise manner that makes perfect sense! This has saved me from further hours of frogging and frustration. I salute your expertise and skillful teaching.

I had knit cables as shown in the video for my entire knitter's life (35+years). This year, I came across a video that proposed a slightly more convenient technique: slip stitches 1&2 purlwise *with the yarn in the front for a right-leaning cable and with the yarn in the back for a left-leaning cable,* knit stitches 3&4, cross the pairs of stitches exactly as shown in this video. Basically, the difference is in the sequence of actions: cross, knit4 vs knit2, cross, knit two; however, the latter way the stitches are less tense, & it's easier to cross them. I hope this will help someone. :)

I tend to twist the yarns when throwing from one hand, even while maintaining color dominance. I think this is because of the way I’m catching floats. Does this mean I should be catching them differently?
@BrooklynTweed_OfficialАй бұрын
Great question! Colorwork does tend to result in twisty yarns - you may find it helpful to start each round/row by arranging your yarn balls with the dominant color on the left and the background color on the right (you'll still likely need to untwist a bit by the end of the round/row, but at least you'll have a nice untangled start!)
