I have knitted 2 hats in 34 years. They have not interested me until watching Wooley. Fascinating. And explaining which hats fit what shape of face was very interesting. So it appears that there are hats that would look good on me.

I just saw your my first episode from this channel yesterday and without knowing ANYTHING about you and your backstory, thought wow, Andrew is absolutely smitten with her, wonder if she knows. Quickly realized you were married and saw the tragic news of his passing. My sincere condolences, that brought me to tears ❤ I think everyone dreams of a partner who looks at them the way Andrew looked at you, with pure admiration.

I love Woolly Wormhead and just moved one of her hats to my next project. Thanks. Her patterns are always interesting and delightful. Also, for those of us who live in warmer climates, instead on putting your wools in a freezer to kill moths, simply put them in a plastic bad in your car when it gets hot. The heat will bake the eggs, so the moths won't hatch. I leave mine in for a week or two depending on how hot it has been. Ideally you want 4-5 days of 80+ temps for this to work.

What a cool episode all around--Woolly's hats have such fascinating construction, and I've been wondering how to darn socks for ages. Thanks so much for inviting me to be a part of this, I was so excited to see how it all came together! It's great that you added Katja's cowl picture in there--it was her first double knitting project, and she did a marvelous job.

Not too long ago, I learned that for at least half of us “throwers” rowing out is caused by loose knits not pearls. Therefore if you tighten up your pearl tension it will only make the rowing out worse. As knitters, there is always something new to learn! I love that about knitting!

As a mere mortal...a fairly new knitter...I can only stand in awe of these two designers. Oh my gosh. I hate wearing hats...always have since I was very young...but, now I'd like to knit a hat just to have it to look at! Well, it would probably look like a dog's breakfast, but you know what I mean. Thank you so much for this episode. It's always good to see your podcast come up. 👍 Patty

Fantastic episode which I shall be watching again this evening! Really enjoyed the Woolly Wormhead interview, looking at the differing hat shapes was so helpful. Knitters of the World is one of my favourite segments and this one today was one of the most interesting you've done to date. Your comments on sweater pattern choice and subsequent falling out of love with them resonated with me. Thanks so much, the show is worth every penny of my subscription. I hope you're able to get some time off soon. I think it's so difficult if you haven't been self-employed to understand just how wearing the relentlessness of the work can be. I have found that scheduling an afternoon and evening off once a week makes a very big difference. Best wishes to you both.

I believe Rowan's Fine Art sock yarn (that was discontinued) was manufactured in South Africa. A sock yarn from South Africa which I think is an excellent substitute (if not the exact same yarn) to the discontinued Rowan one is sold as 'Soul' in the brand African Expressions: 15% kid mohair, 15% mulberry silk, 50% merino, 20 % polyamide. I love the African Expressions 'Soul' yarn for socks.

Celia is a wonderful young woman. I was so drawn to her. In my opinion she isn`t geeky at all, but very unique and wise. When I listened to her, I immediately thought of an indian medicine woman. And indeed, medicine comes in all forms and shapes. Here, as knitting, combined with history and ancient stories. Stories which tell us something important, stories with a hidden message. The book written by Clarissa Pincola Estès comes to mind: "Women who run with the Wolves". Thank you for including Celia in your Episode. A true treasure. Maybe the background music to her interview at the end wasn`t the best pick. Somehow I think Indian chants would`ve been more fitting. :-D

Wonderful episode, love watching Andrew knitting while he smiles away at your comments. Can’t wait to see the progress on your crochet blanket, I’m sure it will be perfection! I am so envious of your sweater/jumper collection, I don’t blame you for not wanting to give them away. The Rowan Fine Art yarn has following specs: Schurwolle (Merino) 45 % Polyamid 25% Mohair 20 % Seide 10 % So there is a fair share of synthetics in it, which gives it it's amazing strength. It's still available at some places, but of course not in all colors.

Thank you for the sock mending tutorial. I have usually used wool/manmade blends for socks and they hold up really well. Last winter I used a pure wool and just like your pure wool socks, they only lasted a few wearings! I was astonished and dismayed. I tried mending with the same yarn ( you are so smart using a blend for your mends), and once again, they quickly showed signs of wear. At that point I just gave up and FELTED the socks and I am currently using the felted toes to make little embroidered coin purses and the rest of the felted fabric will probably be turned into small embroidered brooches. 🤷♀️

What is rowing out? And if you can knit and purl with even tension, you are way ahead of many knitters who have been at it for decades! And there is that point where it is especially difficult, because as an engineer knitter has explained to us, when you knit after a purl, because of the length of a purl stitch before a knit -- which is longer than usual, being longer than a purl after a purl or a purl after a knit (I think; not sure) -- you get the dreaded big knit stitch after a purl! Unless you take steps to prevent it! (Those sometimes misshapen knit stitches on the outside edge of a cable, for instance.)

I never make socks to wear inside shoes anymore , its not worth it. What I do make is ones to wear as slippers and they get leather soles. Recently I found two leather cushions on the street that someone threw out for the collection and in the shed i found some thread for mending ship sails. i cut out two different sizes of ovals and just stitched them on with blanket stitch. I have lots of leather left for future house socks. I tried putting latex on one pair but I found I prefer leather.
@nicolejosan63642 жыл бұрын
I find the two mending tutorials very interesting, but at 1:11:36 Why would you thread the yarn from the inside? Just pull a tail inside and knit from the ball of yarn to your hearts content. Instead of sewing the edge, use a crochet hook to pull the yarn through, and knit this loop together with the first stitch.

@candicevee15 жыл бұрын
Joyce Fischer, rowing out is when the tension is obviously looser in the purl rows than in the knit rows (or vice versa) so that the texture of the resulting fabric looks striped
