I would totally just sew up the holes and move on 😂 no way I’d be frogging all of that!

Hi Emma, your sweater is going to be beautiful in the end!! If it were me, I would do my best to fix the double stitches and then go back with some spare yarn to duplicate stitch areas with holes. Just remember, it could always be worse. Good luck!

Rip back to the hole row, then knit the wonky stitches together to close the holes. If it’s the short row stitch that’s what I would do.

A baking show would be great!!! No matter how you fix your sweater, I would say ditch the Xmas deadline. At this time of year when life is hectic enough, be kind to yourself - the sweater will get done eventually 🙂

From Deb in North Carolina…I don’t know the extent of the damage, but when I’ve found a hole in my knitting when well into the project, if I can fudge it invisibly (so it doesn’t nag at me forever), I close the hole or two with a separate lengths of yarn and weave in ends on the inside. (I’ve done this for accidental underarm holes as well.) If that doesn’t work for me, the grafting method is better than frogging the whole dang thing. What’s hard for me is if the project is close to being done for a deadline I’ve set for myself, I’m all excited and then WHAM, BIG obstacle. My chagrin can put off my momentum. I need some emotional distance from the situation. I take my sock knitting and go get a pedicure, which is soothing and cheering. Then home to try again. Hope you work it out as it is gorgeous.

I’d second fixing them using the very pink knits tutorial the bottom commenter added. It’s such a clear tutorial. Pick a time when you’re not pressed for time, feeling focused and with plenty of daylight for sure will help! It will make you feel so empowered if you can fix it! I listened to an Andrea mowry podcast not long ago and someone said they’d made a mistake and felt like grafting the body and she cautioned it’s difficult to get the tension of the sewn grafted row to match the rest of your knitted fabric. ( I’ve never done it) Just something to bear in mind before you snitch!

It is a gorgeous sweater! I have totally made huge mistakes in my knitting (and sewing, and anything else you could think of). I would not rip it out. It’s a dark colour. Is it on the back? I would carry on with the sleeves and the rest of your plan to finish. As you knit and let your mind wander you may decide on a solution or you may come up with another solution that has not been suggested. Amazing what the brain does when you let it wander. I like the already suggested idea of duplicate stitch. When the rest of the sweater is finished, I would probably go back and tighten up what I could, duplicate stitch where it is really needed, and basically McGyver it. Spend some time doing something you love!! Really enjoying your vlogs. Happy holiday!

Take the pressure off yourself . Look at it after Christmas . Sounds as though you have lots of things to juggle. So disappointing but sure you will do something but don’t rush it. Happy Christmas .

Oh, I can so relate! Put it aside for a while and it will seem less overwhelming, and your subconscious will have a chance to work on the problem. Find something for an easy win now. Best of luck, you can fix this, eventually!

did the EXACT same thing -- noticing odd stitches and laddering down to knit-doctor my wonky stitches. Made a total mess. Couldn't be fixed. Had to rip it all back. Sorry.

I would recommend phoning around to yarn shops to find someone to do the mending for you. It seems like it is only a handful a spots that need fixing and someone with expertise in mending knits could do that for you and it should not be too expensive.

Hi Emma!! Oh dear!! That sweater is going to be amazing! Your yarn and that blue are spectacular. You have said many times since I've been watching your podcast how you like things to be perfect as you can get them. I feel you'll never be really happy with things if you don't give this sweater the time it needs to be GREAT!!! Maybe this is letting you use your holiday time to be with this sweater and great this amazing piece. Is it possible with your cutting idea to cut under your colour work and then cut the sleeve in another spot redo the short row section, graft your sleeve and then finish the other sleeve....I'm sure there is a way and I really think the listener that suggested letting the Xmas deadline go has lots of wisdom in her advice. We love you and you sweet family and you'll be so proud to wear this amazing piece made with you own yarns in 2025!!! Happy Holidays. Just throw away the feelings of failure and be the knitter who solves this challenge.....and by BTW I've done the same!!! Your husband is so sweet - I heard his pause - like OK I need to give her the right answer......and help her see this is just a stitch issue not a world disaster!!!

I'm just an intermediate knitter, so I avoid short rows to begin with. I wouldn't cut it, I'd give it time, after the holidays, new perspective time. I'd try duplicate stitch and darning, which is all I know about that. Please have a safe, happy and Blessed Christmas season!

Oh gosh Emma! I so feel for you! I have no idea how to fix short rows. What a dilemma! I once found a huge mistake at least 10 inches into an all over colorwork Marie Wallin cardigan which was knit in pieces (flat). I had to rip it all back and knit it again. If I were you, I’d put it aside and work on things that are going well.

I would rip back to the offending stitches and knit back up. Otherwise you'll see the mistake whenever you look at it. Less complicated than grafting..🙂

Hi Emma. Happy Holidays and good luck with your sweater. I know it will turn out lovely. I received the Holiday Box from the Woolly Thistle which features an advent of your beautiful yarn. I have just completed my project which is a lovely color work hat. I still have plenty of yarn left to put into a second project. I will post a picture after everyone has had time to open their advent. Some may be waiting for the 12 days of Christmas to start opening. It was so much fun I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone. Thank you and I have really enjoyed knitting with this yarn. Also, when I gave the hat its wool wash bath there was basically no color bleed into the wash water. Great job. I would be interested at some point to know what plant materials you used for each of the colors.

I was working on a bind off last night and decided it also looked wonky. I determined I was too tired and needed to wait for daylight to rip it all out and decide how I want to go forward with it.

Hi Emma. I’m not sure quite what you have done wrong on your pattern. Why can’t you just use a crochet hook and crochet down the stitches down to fill in that ladder section. If you have too many stitches in the end just knit together to reduce when you are knitting a round. The hole to the side just sew up from the back. Don’t do all the cutting etc. it seems a small fix the other way I’ve suggested. Hope that helps Sharon

Husbands can be so helpful, don't you think? 😂 But seriously, I feel your pain. What a miserable thing to have to fix!! I'd go with the "snitch" option. Any other option would make my brain hurt. 😉

Since it won't be ready for Christmas, frog to mistake and make it your winter 2025 project. Then you can also fix that underarm issue...you've otherwise did such a lovely knit, and colors are terrific and you have another to work on. I think you be happier😅 in the long run due to the mistake being in highly visible place. Sorry for that news😢

I’ve had a few of those 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ moments. How discouraging. The grafting option would be my best option. But if you really want it for Christmas, try to fix your “dropped” stitches the best you can, duplicate stitch over the holes to hide them and keep going. NOONE will know, except of course everyone who watches your videos. 😂

I’d go to a yarn shop, get a card for knitting lessons, and ask that “ expert” knitter to fix it, I would not graft. Nightmare! Or ask a friend, if you have one to fix it for you! I did rip back in a colourwork sock, and did something similar, but it would be something I would do, definitely, too tired! Get help! Put it in the naughty corner, and get back to it with some help.😊
