This Is The Best Moss For Terrariums!
Of all the types of moss, Leucobryum glaucum (bun moss, pincushion moss, cushion moss) is the best terrarium moss and in this terrarium guide you will learn the correct moss care for it. Easy terrarium plants are the best and it really is an easy moss to use once you know the correct moss care. A simple terrarium is an easy terrarium! Combined with the correct plants you could make a moss forest or an indoor moss garden in your terrarium. I discourage collecting moss from the wild as it can be difficult to ID. An alternative to this moss is Dicranum scoparium (mood moss).

Great choice for mossariums! I have found that a species that grows on palm and palmetto trunks, Octoblepharum albidum, does very well in terrariums. They have a brilliant green to them and an interesting star-like shape. Also, it can revive easily when completely dried out. I have found many sheets that were so dry they would crumble into almost a powder during the dry season, but a 24hr soak revived them to softness and restored the color and health perfectly. I just followed you on instagram too, you make some interesting stuff!

I strongly agree with you. Cushion moss is one of the best thriving moss in my terrarium. Also, I find that badge moss also does pretty well (maybe because of their native habitat). Haircap moss was the first species that went from green to brown.

I did look at persevered moss? I’m trying to make my home more biophilic , but we have buildings over shadowing our windows!

Hi Sophie, have you tried dicranum scoparium (mood moss)? There are also aquatic mosses that work well in a terrarium like Taxiphyllum barbieri or Vesicularia dubyana.

Hello there mate. I have a quick question for you. I've been looking EVERYWHERE to find this moss, online, local florists, gardening center, name it. I'm from Canada, we're the 2nd largest country in the world with one tenth of USA population so everything is hard to get here. Usually I would just forage some in the wild, we sure not short of woods and moss here but yeah, yesterday alone we received 80 cm of snow and right now it's -25C so... Then I stumbled on Zoo Med frog moss, which is dehydrated Leucobryum glaucum. Have you ever heard of it, what's you impression. From what I've seen it looks pretty legit. I wonder how it would do and propagate long term and do you think it would grow well on a xaxim (tree fern) background? Thanks a lot for your time, keep the good work.
