Word 2013: Line and Paragraph Spacing

How can I alter how big the lines are when I press ENTER? At the moment they are way too big. I want it so that when I press enter, the next line is close to the one above rather than a big gap away. I don't want to have to alter the paragraph every document, I want this to be a default set up.
