I also took the MOS for Word and passed with a 914, and the only 'studying' I did was watching this video, so thank you very much! The only thing that wasn't covered in this video were a few questions on spacing between words (found in the font pull down menu), a few questions on bookmarks, and one or two questions about deleting the personal information from documents (going into the property pages and deleting the authors and tags). Thank you very much for this video, it helped A LOT!

Hi Karan, When you pass the exam, you can add the exam to the Certifications or Education section of your resume. A reason employers prefer to see this is to show proof of proficiency in MS Word. Lots of people say they know how to use Word, the MOS Exam proves it.

Hey Jonathan, It's a tough test, don't be discouraged if you don't pass right away. A tip I give to my students is to do everything that you know how to do first, flag the ones you don't. Then go back at the end and do your best on the flagged tasks. That way you don't miss points that you would've otherwise earned due to time constraints.

I called them and asked them to let me take it again to increase my scores...and they will use the highest scoring for the application. It's just the 3 simple ones: Word, Excel, Outlook and Data Entry. Altogether, I should be certified in MS by now but I want the CompTia first, then MS then Cysco

Create a new row at the top of the table (Table Tools Layout Tab, Rows and Columns Group, Insert Above Button) 2. Select the new row (Highlight through the row or click about half an inch to the left of the row) 3. Merge the cells within the top row (Table Tools Layout Tab, Merge Group, Merge Cells Button) 4. Center the Text within that row (Home Tab, Paragraph Group) 5. Write and format your heading That should put you in a nice spot to get this heading completed. Let me know if you have any questions.

I took my MOS Word exam and I had a little difficulty. The difficulty was on SmartArts I was given a smart art in which the shapes were all linked to each other and were numbered like a list. and i was asked to switch the order if the smart art without displacing the shapes. The advice I give to my students is to complete the tasks that they know how to do first, and flag the ones that they don't know how to do for later. The test is 50 minutes, so you need to be fast and not waste a bunch of time on something you do not know how to do. So do what you first, then work on what you don't know. I took my MOS Word 2016...and failed with a score of 553. I did well On Gmetrix, but only practiced the MOS part...should have practiced the Core part. The format threw me off, and different verbiage also. So far I am the only one who failed in my class...so bummed!

Hi Mo, All right, first piece of advice is to not worry if you don't know how to do something. Just flag it, so that you can go back to it later. Next piece of advice is to not spend a very long amount of time on any one question. Too many students waste a long amount of time trying to figure out how to do something rather than moving forward, then they run out of time. Good luck and let me know how you do.

Sorry to hear that you failed your exam Kitty. The good news is that your score wasn't too far off from the passing score, which is 700. I think you can improve your score before you need to retake it. I recommend watching my Word 2016 playlist. I'll link it below. It covers most of the MOS concepts that you're going to see on the exam. After watching each of those videos, try to follow along with me to make sure you know how to do the steps. When it comes time to take the test, complete the answers to the ones you know, flag the ones that you don't and go back to them at the end. Could you please tell me how I can insert a picture in the document and where to find that file to insert it. Hi Katuska, I'm sorry to hear you failed your test. Start remembering what you didn't know how to do and learn that so you can get those points on the retake. To insert pictures, you just have to go to the Insert Tab and choose the Pictures button. If you cannot find the file from the Certiport Templates, you may need to ask the Exam proctor where the default folder is located. It should direct you to that folder automatically. Hi Rhee, I haven't read that book so I'm not too sure what the content contains. Typically, I'd recommend looking into self directed free learning first (KZbin videos, forums, etc.) then if that doesn't work, try out something like a book or GMetrix and go from there.

Hi Elizabeth, It really depends on the type of work you're looking to get into. Certifications can help, but they can't get the job for you. It never hurts to brush up your tech skills for free without the certification (KZbin tutorials, etc.) and see how the job market is. If you don't have success with that, then the certifications may be more necessary. Finances also play a factor in it as well. I wish you the best in your job search.

I have been making a lot of changes to my Word 2016 software in the Backstage view as well as with styles, templates, themes. formatting, etc. because I have been studying for the certification exam. I don't have any of my own templates, themes, styles. etc. How can I reset everything back to Word 2016 with the defaults that it came installed with?

Hi Bridget, One way to for sure get Word back to its default settings is to reinstall the program on your computer. If you've changed things like themes, formatting, etc. you can try to change those things back to how they used to be by basically undoing the changes you made. Word does not have a factory reset option to my knowledge.

I took the Microsoft Word test but had a problem at the end with not being able to do the questions I flagged. Or even see the ones I checked marked. I was very disappointed. I'm not sure what I did wrong. I marked the check mark as I was going through each question and marked the flag for the ones I wanted to recheck later. Is there a way to download the actual instructions from the Microsoft Word test? Please help! I need to retake it but I want to know before hand what I did wrong.

Hi Miss Silva, That's a bummer that you couldn't work on your flagged tasks. Sometimes the test will end if you click close exam by mistake or if time runs out. I recommend taking the test again, since the first time can be pretty difficult for most students. Unfortunately, you cannot download the actual instructions from the test. You can look at your score report on certiport.com to see what scores you got from each section. Just sign in using the same username and password that you used for the test.

What is the different between an En Dash and Em Dash in Word 2016?

Hi Bridget, The em dash is the mark of punctuation most of us think of when we hear the term "dash" in regard to a sentence. It is significantly longer than the hyphen. We use the em dash to create a strong break in the structure of a sentence. ... The en dash is slightly longer than the hyphen but not as long as the em dash.

Hi Waseem, I know that it is held at the Certiport Conference in Florida over the summer. From what I understand, to compete, you'll need to get the highest score in your state in any of the MOS Exams. If you do that, you will receive an email inviting you to the competition. Hi Rachel, I know we talked about this on the live stream, but I figured out what you were asking after we spoke. The reverse numbered list reverse the contents within the numbered list, not the numbers themselves. Here is how you do it: Remove the bullets from the list. Convert the list to a table in the insert tab. Sort the list from Z to A to reverse the order. Convert the list back to text in the Table Tools menu. Add Numbers to the list using the Numbering button. This is probably what the exam what looking for you to do. I hope this helps you out.
