(3:44) So happy to hear Professor A.K. Warder's name is mentioned, a respected scholar I know personally. His book "Indian Buddhism" traced the development and evolution of Buddhism in India, a valuable reference text. (14:20) Despite his scholarship, Professor Warder remained skeptical of rebirth, thus he said that he could not consider himself a Buddhist. That shows academic integrity. But it also demonstrates that despite his intellectual brilliance and linguistic talent, scholarly study alone could not bridge the heart & mind to the Buddha's core teaching. Indeed without accepting the teaching about rebirth, one will be missing the point of Four Noble Truths. Don't believe Professor Warder practised meditation much.

I used to be a buddhist but have become a Christian, and Ive meditated a fair bit, which helped me become a Christian.

@@thejjjwils That's perfectly fine. Everyone construct their own path in life. From the Buddhist perspective, one's intentions, beliefs, choices, actions, habits etc alter the stream of consciousness, thus life's path. I sang in the church choir as a kid too. My chosen path is the Eightfold path. Good luck on your journey.

@@stanbimi Thanks, I obviously studied it, even had psychedelic experiences where I did feel enlightened, all be it temporarily. Problem is with "it's all in the mind", is the physics of the world has not changed, ever since all of these monks and eastern views have reached the West yet still, physical world cannot be changed - that's because (in my belief) it's God ordained, and not controllable with our minds. I think realising the world is flat, helps in understanding Christianity a bit more.
@stanbimi
@stanbimi Жыл бұрын
@@thejjjwils In my understanding Buddhism did not say "it's all in the mind", in fact, such view is seen as one of the two extreme, tied to eternal-ism. As for "the world is flat", I suppose you don't mean the cult about flat-earth, but more like Tom Friedman's book? I think Friedman abandoned his flat world view already and is now another anti-China, anti-globalization advocate.

@@stanbimi I mean revelations is playing out in front of our eyes with transhumanism on the way, merging of tech with flesh, a very demonic like if not the devil itself AI enslavement system so anything that's anti that has to be good.

I find it quiet upsurd to eliminate suffering. It’s an illusion and again human nature. It is understanding suffering and how we need it to grow and develope in life but more importantly it brings one closer to God which is that all things are as they are designed to be. And we learn how to get recognize, and get through suffering when it occurs

I have enough. Father wants to shut me in closed mental hospital because i ate 6 cheeses, i took them from the fridge because i was hungry. When i told him why i had eaten 6, he got furious. He said he would go to the doc of the open mental hospital where i am since 20 june , still i am there, and he will show the doctor the documents showing how much credit i took from the bank. So father blackmails me. Each time i want to take to eat when I am hungry, i must ask permission of parents. And the psychologyst of this open hospital agreed i must ask permission. What if parents are sleeping ,and i am hungry??? I have enough,i want to escape. Help me. Either Australia monastery or any . I cannot exist like that. Anna Gołębiowska, Kielce, Poland.

When it rains water, water flows in the sewers. So if cats and dogs are found dead in the sewers, it must be because it was raining cats and dogs. 😅

In this talk he falsely equates, what is called craving with the more general term wanting. Craving is for unwholesome things, that we know are bad for us in common parlance and relates to intense feelings such as neediness Wanting is the more general term that can apply to and often does to wholesome desires , the desire to meditate, or to eat lots of food and be lazy. its normal to want things , and we are only human. Wanting things whether it is kammically good or bad, alot depends on intention, mindfulness, and potential benefits in assessing moral action. Craving relates to compulsion, so the person in Nibbana who no longer craves he is just no longer compelled to want things in that his happiness does not depend on them, but he of course likes his drink of water , solitude, and good health and will act in line with health, so its normal to want things do not be misguided.

It is also normal to continue the cycle of samsara and rebirth.

Not for one without craving, which can be anyone. Craving and wanting are two different things. That's where he effs up. Normal does not mean always good or ideal it is just a baseline anyone who excels themselves at something can easily push beyond normal. I'm Buddhism and in any field.

And yeah, Don't forget either that Nibbana takes place in Samsara, Even for the liberated they still live in conditioned cyclic existence. Just they have found something that is unconditioned and choose to abide there.
