Lets say our current expression is 20*6 and since there are new dimensions when the area is doubled, we can put the statement as: (x+20)(x+6)=240(that for which is the new rectangle we are talking about) Now see here it definitely looks like a quadratic equation. Expand it into: x^2 +26x+120=240 Now put 240 on the other side to make the who equation equalling to 0 x^2 +26x-120=0 Now factorise: (x+30)(x-4)=0 So, x=4, and x=-30 But forget about -30 because that isnt gonna be part of the equation since it is a negative number. Now we sub it back to the equation: (x+20)(x+6)=240 So substituting 4 into the equation, we get 24*10 Boom you got your answer!
