Hey Chris, loved the video! I might or might not be moving to Singapore in June depending on how a job interview I took went. I am married and me and my wife have a little girl who will turn 1 in June... I am definitely looking forward to learning options for living as frugally as it is possible WHILE living in a private apartment (we don't care about gym or pool, we do care about privacy... Well my wife does :) ). So yea, how to move around, where to do (healthy!!!) Groceries, what can be entertaining while on a budget... Really everything to make life livable. Also if we were to really come there, I would love to have a chat with you in person! How much would you say it's needed to make, a month, for a little family of 3?

Singapore is a small island with a 5million people both locals and foreign. To coup with transportation for within a limited rosds to make way to housing. So the ownship of a vehicle need to be control and limit its growth. So being a free economy the best way is for those who want a car pay more and usage of the roads. Fair deal

Hi there, I didn't have time to watch this but i scrolled through the transcript and thought it's really interesting and wanted to wish you the best of luck. I would be really interested to learn a lot more about how you adapted to life. I'm thinking about language but guessing English may be relatively widely spoken in Singapore. I'm not even sure if there's a Singaporean tongue - would it actually be Chinese among other languages? Basically, if i could have, i would have done what you are doing now, in different place in Asia. One of the things i wanted to touch upon is how viable/sustainable you feel it is to stay afloat teaching English in terms of your financial security. Access to healthcare would be another interesting subject. I'm not going to lie, i would love to know more about about the landlord wanted by the fuzz! If you reply, sorry if I can't respond for ages. I'm glad you were able to turn over a new chapter and feel quality of life in the UK must be quite rough right now. I'm just thinking about old friends I've unfortunately lost touch with. I think my sense was teaching English overseas in Asia can be life changing, there can also be massive culture shocks, money could be tight, it could still be worth it but it could also be harder to sustain over time which could be a source of stress. I think what i picked up is that you love being close to Thailand while you cannot live there and Singapore has been a base for some amazing adventures. Basically i never travelled but my studies and interests previously brought me into contact with a really wide cross section of people from across Asia and i still feel like culture shock, however uncomfortable, is one of the most educational experiences I've had in life. Part of the process caused me to view Aussie culture and the English language with a different lens. The only things i wish for you are that i hope you will find enough security in teaching work, that you can afford a more comfortable space, and that if you want to live in Thailand, maybe one day you will have the opportunity, understanding that being 2 hours away from somewhere you love to bits is still pretty good. I would be interested in knowing whether the Singaporeans have a fairly unique sense of humour and what it's like. Good luck with your channel!

Did you have a degree or work experience when you transitioned as an expat? I'm exploring options because I feel stuck working the corporate life in America, I want to work and explore and learn new cultures, I do not have a degree but got a job in a large corporation that requires ones through connections.

Do you prefer Thailand? I already lived in Thailand for a couple of months and I searched for a job in APAC region back to France .. I now have choice between the two countries, it's a hard choice 😅 I'd like to have your opinion

Honestly, overall I’d say yes to Thailand and I’ll tell you personally why. While Singapore, is really clean and organised for me there’s a feeling in Bangkok and Thailand in general that I never felt in Singapore. Another thing is cost of living. If you’re getting a salary in line with what expats get in Thailand you’re going to be a lot more comfortable. Thailand is safe and people are friendly. It’s definitely my preference 🥳

Note Drug Abuse applies even if you consume drugs overseas and return to Singapore thereafter (especially if you are on a long term pass ). ICA can conduct a drug urine test when you are at the border checkpoints legally. So if coming to Singapore, do live a drug free life!

If you’re referring to the law where you cannot consume drugs even outside of Singapore, this only applies citizens and Permanent Residents and does not apply to long term pass holders. 😂 the funniest part is years ago I lived in a house share with a pool and I think I used it 5 times max. It’s like when you don’t have one you think about how nice it would be to have one and when you finally have one, you don’t use it 😂

@@PixelAdventure true, in public housing town, there is usually a public pool for the residents nearby and they are clean and cheap to use. Public housing town has most amenities including gym, sport complex, parks, shopping malls and of course hawker centres and plenty of coffeeshops and even local restaurants.

@@PixelAdventure interesting, i just wrote you a comment asking about sustainability. I thought you were teaching English but you didn't mention that when asked about occupation. I was thinking it could be a hard grind over the longer term because of conditions, that it could be enough to keep you afloat for a few years but get harder beyond then. Good luck, man. I had a friend who went back home after a teaching gig ended but then got reverse culture shock and wound up somewhere else. I think it's an interesting subject in an increasingly globalised world. In SG everything is artificial, nobody true, depression all over, a harsh routine to prolong the consumerism of malls with air conditioning, Malaysia deserved better, the port ($ and transport bizz) is the key of this story. It is a small artificial box with low-cost employees from poor Asian countries of surrounding real countries. After this, we should see that high QIs, are served by the lows ones. That’s an interesting take. Not an entirely accurate take. Every country has its contrasts and areas of needed criticism. However sometimes it involves opening up the experiences you’re looking for. For every person that dislikes it here is a person that loves it. For me, I think I try to sit somewhere in the middle.
