Thank you Bishop Barron. I struggle so much trying to understand the fall of Satan and his inability to be forgiven/redeemed. Dante's image of Satan drowning in ice formed by his own tears causes me such sorrow. He is as far from God as he can be. I was amazed there were three questions about this after you were finished. I will never be at your level of comprehension of theology and philosophy but I love everything you do to bring the message of Christ to the world today. The Holy Spirit speaks through you of this I am certain. May God continue to bless you and the Word on Fire ministry - you have transformed my life.

This is absolutely brilliant, when he started with "angels" choice I was a bit afraid but he proved me totally wrong. Logical, passionate, convincing. With all respect to all Christian fatih proliferators I don´t see anybody who could stand in his place. He is a Christian version of Thomas Sowell for me, simply irreplaceable.

What an extraordinary message with real teeth and application. This protestant very frequently gets great exhortation to holiness and encouragement in faith from Bishop Barron. And that Polaris Building example, what an excellent Pauline/Areopagus moment. Also, with this present Pentagon and flag grades, it's pretty easy to be cynical about the direction of the US military. This audience gives me hope.

What serendipity! I had been thinking recently how people who are hurting use others sometimes as a foil, a kind of nemesis to their own pumped up ego. Now I’m thinking also, we may stand in the place of the angel, someone to wrestle with before they’re ready to face themselves, or finally God. Something to think about in my own life, from both sides of the struggle.

Greatly appreciate being able to watch all the talks and presentations because it would hardly ever be possible to get to attend. Imitation, it is said, as the highest of gratitude. Mimicry in nature is an adaptation, also it grows from being immersed and steeped in the upwardly and outwardly radiating discourse, inviting awareness of, attention to, and for the purpose of praising God. His Excellence opens so many related topics surrounding the angelic. Would be great to have a transcript. One could derive a semester course from the Bishop's discussion on what relates to Holy Angels. In each tangential aspect, Bishop Robert Barron segues into deep philosophical and theological themes yet, only dipping the tip of the brush into the pigment. Sensing something of the beautiful, the good and the true with each encounter!

Excellent lecture!! In relationship to the interesting question posed at 55:20, I would say that the same way there are people here on Earth addicted to their hatred, rage and sadism up until the very end of a long life, just imagine how could this be in the angelic realm :(

Well, 4 months on this will probably go unread, but I just listened to the podcast and felt the need to comment. At timestamp 1:05:45 there is a statement that 'God can't do the impossible', and then a decent expounding on how to free will could not be tested without choice, which required the fall. While I think the second portion has some merit, I couldn't help but recall Matthew 19:26 'Jesus looked at them and said, “For human beings this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”' So God can do the impossible as conceived by humans. I think what follows is accurate. Humans were made in the image of God, and we are different than angels. Angels do not have free will (at least as expounded by this discussion and references to the theologians). In order for humans to be able to exercises free will, there must be a choice. To choose God and love is the hope of God. But it needs to come from the person. (To me this opens up an interesting question of what is the key aspect of humanity that is in the image of God.) If God created everything, and it was in God's plan that humans have free will and exist in His image, then a testing ground would have needed to be set for humans. As God created the angels, could it be that God intentionally created Lucifer to be too in prideful with reason so as to fall in love with himself/reason, and away from God, such that the fall would introduce the separation necessary for a choice to be allowed for humans. Only in allowing evil, and perhaps in designing for it, could the full fruition of human free will to love God (or not) be allowed. (I think a lot of people will be upset with this thought, and it is a thought/question, not a statement of fact, given that it would indicated God willingly not only allows evil, but is implicated in creating it. In a sense, could it be that if evil is the total turning away from God, coult it, in a dualistic sense, exist without God?) I also wonder, during this discussion, if we are waxing philosophic about suboptimal explanations in the face of a reality that we cannot sensually observe as humans, or that has yet to be revealed to us in the grand plan of God's evolving revelation for humans.

Bishop Baron is such an intelligent and intuitive man, and he's blessed with a good heart, and there's no doubt that he's helped many, many people through his preaching and teaching. But he's harming countless others with his enthusiastic support of the Just War Theory and his at best lukewarm support of Gospel Nonviolence. The two cannot coexist in the mind of an observant Christian who is willing to bear witness to the Truth of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. Jesus was sacrificed for preaching a Good News that threatens the violent power structure of the state to its core. We all need to make a choice. Do we worship the state and state-sponsored murder or do we pattern our life after the example of Jesus the Christ and His message of unconditional love of friend and enemy? I wish Bishop Baron was more clearly on the side of the Christ and His message of Nonviolence.

Odd fact about the Rocky Mountains (of which Pike's Peak is one) -- according to geologists, those mountains have been buried and exhumed at least once in Earth's history. Seems like there might be something you can do with that in a sermon. Nothing specific occurs to me just now, and it wouldn't really fit in this one.

Consecration of oneself to Jesus Christ, Wisdom Incarnate, through the hands of Mary by St. Louis-Marie de Montfort Eternal and incarnate Wisdom, most lovable and adorable Jesus, true God and true man, only Son of the eternal Father and of Mary always Virgin, I adore you profoundly, dwelling in the splendor of your Father from all eternity, and in the virginal womb of Mary, your most worthy Mother, at the time of your Incarnation. I thank you for having emptied yourself in assuming the condition of a slave to set me free from the cruel slavery of the evil one. I praise and glorify you for having willingly chosen to obey Mary, your holy Mother, in all things, so that through her I may be your faithful slave of love. But I must confess that I have not kept the vows and promises which I made to you so solemnly at my baptism. I have not fulfilled my obligations, and I do not deserve to be called your child or even your slave. Since I cannot lay claim to anything except what merits your rejection and displeasure, I dare no longer approach the holiness of your majesty on my own. That is why I turn to the intercession and the mercy of your holy Mother, whom you yourself have given me to mediate with you. Through her I hope to obtain from you contrition and pardon for my sins, and that Wisdom whom I desire to dwell in me always. I turn to you, then, Mary Immaculate, living tabernacle of God, in whom Eternal wisdom willed to receive the adoration of both men and angels. I greet you as Queen of heaven and earth, for all that is under God has been made subject to your sovereignty. I call upon you, the unfailing refuge of sinners, confident in your mercy that has never forsaken anyone. Grant my desire for divine Wisdom and, in support of my petition, accept the promises and the offering of myself which I now make, conscious of my unworthiness. I, an unfaithful sinner, renew and ratify today through you my baptismal promises. I renounce forever Satan, his empty promises, and his evil designs, and I give myself completely to Jesus Christ, the incarnate Wisdom, to carry my cross after Him for the rest of my life, and to be more faithful to Him than I have been till now. This day, with the whole court of heaven as witness, I choose you, Mary, as my Mother and Queen. I surrender and consecrate myself to you, body and soul, as your slave, with all that I possess, both spiritual and material, even including the value of all my good actions, past, present, and to come. I give you the full right to dispose of me and all that belongs to me, without any reservations, in whatever way you please, for the greater glory of God in time and throughout eternity. Accept, gracious Virgin, this little offering of my slavery to honor and imitate the obedience which Eternal Wisdom willingly chose to have towards you, his Mother. I wish to acknowledge the authority which both of you have over this pitiful sinner. By it, I wish also to thank God for the privileges bestowed on you by the Blessed Trinity. I declare that for the future, I will try to honor and obey you in all things, as your true slave of love. O admirable Mother, present me to your dear Son as His slave, now and for always, so that He who redeemed me through you, will now receive me through you. Mother of mercy, grant me the favor of obtaining the true Wisdom of God, and so make me one of those whom you love, teach and guide, whom you nourish and protect as your children and slaves. Virgin most faithful, make me in everything so committed a disciple, imitator, and slave of Jesus, your Son, incarnate Wisdom, that I may become, through your intercession and example, fully mature with the fullness which Jesus possessed on earth, and with the fullness of His glory in heaven. Amen🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
