This game show was more of a "Darkhorse" show in NBC's game show line-up in 1987. I thought it was right up there with the Scrabble's & Sale of the Century's in their' block as far as quality. But, unfortunately, it went up against CBS Young and the Restless when it was "endpegged" along with premiering with the new Blockbusters on the start of the block in Jan. of '87. This was also the tail end of NBC's heavy airing of game shows as it would soon begin to give away or cancel game shows without replacing them with other game shows. I also think this show got screwed when it was replaced with a daytime version of Win Lose or Draw, IMO, Bert Convy and maybe Burt Reynolds had pull with NBC to get their' WL or D show up there in place of Wordplay.

Was this from Pittsburgh's NBC affiliate, by any chance? I ask because Kittaning isn't that far from Pittsburgh.
@newstarcadefan7 жыл бұрын
+Creighton Rabs It was. WPXI does serve Kittaning.

According to Tom Kennedy, in an online interview, WORDPLAY got the ax because NBC wanted to do business w/ Disney, who had a stake in WLoD.

Yes, i have this show in my collection, and it starts with a promo for SOLID GOLD, which WPXI-TV ran on Saturdays at 7 PM. Since this promo has SOLID GOLD on "tomorrow", that places the original air date for this show on Friday, April 24, 1987.

Leslie was also a "Match Game" panelist one week in 1975.
@jehobden9 жыл бұрын
+jellyrewis I also remember him on the 2nd week of this show with Jamie Farr (again) and Dorothy Lyman of "Mama's Family". Jamie Farr was considered a bigger celebrity than Leslie N at the time, as he was seated in position #1 and was thereby the first person seen when this show began this week.

Sydney may have had an annoying voice but she was kind of cute. I could honestly see her hosting a game show. No doubt Tom Kennedy rocks but I could've also seen Wink Martindale host this show too.
