(read after watching!) hey guys so I'm looking for a lil bit of feedback here with this project! how do you feel about the ending is it subversive enough? I have 3 endings I'm toying with the one shown here a one where the tiger leaves at the end carry Oedis body having killed him without a shadow of doubt and an ending here oedi sticks his end out the dog house -his collar having been torn off by Tiger what do you think works best? do you prefer either of these endings for being more unexpected? or is an open ending like the one shown here best? I have to write a reflection on how this lil piece works with subversion so some feedback and advice would be swell!

Corvid Katana I like the ending where the tiger frees him. - He didn’t eat the body here, so there would be no point as they were talking about the confines of the tigers needs. -But at the end he talks about true freedom from his perspective, so he would free the dog. If he eats the dog that would also be an acceptable ending, but on personal opinion I choose him giving the dog freedom.

That is true. But there’s a work around. Perhaps end it with him walking away and Odei carefully and nervously walking away after the tiger. That would in a way make him more free than the tiger giving both arguments; he’d be free to go where he wants and come back to his food and water.. THAT WOULD BE TRUE FREEDOM ACCORDING TO BOTH. This is why the broken collar ending is the best idea. After all, the tiger did say “let me show you what true freedom looks like” This would be true freedom to both

Pick the ending that supports your story. Do you want the tiger to be the truth (current ending or clearly dead dog ending), the dog to be the truth (you'd need an ending you haven't considered), or do you want both arguments to be equal? To a wise viewer, none of these endings are unexpected, so your goal should be strengthening your story/argument.

I see the arguments about our pets having freedom with us, but what some don't understand is that the story this is based off of is a metaphor, telling us safer is not always free. I am on the tiger's side, but I think the ending should be like what you have here, but after the credits (and the watchers think the dog died) we see the dog walk out without the color, shaking, scared of the tiger and the new 'freedom'.

I like the idea of the tiger looking like he killed the dog, but he instead broke his collar. It could help leave the idea open that he could leave or stay. The end in the video gives me the idea of politics. They bicker back and forth until one uses violence to get their way. It’s message doesn’t seem as strong to be because of this. In the end, it’s completely up to you
@dragamation3266

Okay thats not how politics as a whole works, and how does it mess up the message? the video is about an argument over what counts as freedom. If anything it adds something to it. That no matter what freedoms you have, other people can take that away from you.

Omg i get it now. Now that you bring up politics i can't help hut think of democracy(or tbh anything else) vs communism The dog is communism because he maybe given food and shelter the government controls evey aspect of people's lives (ie. Wages, hours, rations, media) and the tiger is democracy. Because we certainly freedom of choice. And alot of times both parties try to make more communist or more democratic countries. And they go to war together and democracy tries to snuff out communism (example the usa helping south kora) and the tiger killing the dog is like defeating a communist country in a war. Idk just my thoughts.

My theory is that neither one of them are free. Both are bound by their needs, precautions they must take, and the limitations other beings enforce on them. When the dog talks about how the tiger cannot tread on ground another tiger has laid claim, his shadow morphs into a tiger as well. I know it likely wasn't supposed to be that deep, but I like to think it is symbolic to how the tiger can't just take the dog and his owner's home for himself. Sure he has the choice to just prowl the yard and kill them both, but there are consequences to such actions. It is the same everywhere else for every animal on this earth. There is competition and there are limitations. The dog has rules to follow an limitations to abide to just like the tiger. And despite what the tiger claims... the dog does have a choice to fight back. The dog is just wary of the consequences. And I'm sure the tiger is wary of the consequences regarding challenging another tiger, and thus choose to avoid said conflict. Neither of them are free. Really, both the dog and the tiger are mirrors of eachother on a symbolic and literal level. The only real freedom in this life, is death itself. To not be bound by limitations and laws. To not have to work yourself, or be forced to be anything you're not. Which is why I like the ending where the dog was killed. Because the dog is free, yet the tiger is still in chains. I also prefer this ending because the tiger says "I'll never know your freedom, but you'll never know mine." During this moment the scene became tense, and it really felt like the tiger was going to kill him or do something. Plus, it just makes no sense to have him say that and imediantly free the dog, allowing the dog to experience his freedom after he said he wouldn't. Idk. Just my opinion!

Man, this was really cool. My favorite thing about this was how traditionally you get told the story where the tiger is more free, and the dog would be considered the one in chains. But the dog makes good points, and I thought that was awesome. Personally, I like the darker ending. I expected the tiger to take off the chain, so I personally prefer the ambiguous ending. Did the tiger kill him? If he did, why didn't he eat him? Is he truly a slave to his needs, or is the dog alive? It makes you think, consider the characters, and ponder the final message. Regardless, this was an incredible watch! Wonderful work!

They're both true and false. The tiger is a slave to its needs and its nature, the dog is a slave to man, and neither is as free as they pretend. But then, no one ever is. Humans are slaves to money and laws. Even the richest are bound. In the end, choice is the closest thing to freedom we have. The dog did not choose to be a pet but it did probably choose to stay one. The tiger did not choose to be a tiger but it did choose where it went and what it did. However, here are the two choices that matter most in the video: the dog's choice to share its food and the tiger's choice to hurt, kill, or intimidate the dog, whichever it ended up doing. The dog shared its wealth and the tiger hurt another to win an argument.

It's really a 50/50, great job with an open ending like that! This is so much like the philosophy class I'm currently taking in university. Just like the video, the class I'm taking revolves around the concepts of freedom, the origins of inequality, and the pursuit of the ideal governing social structure. Specifically it talks about the freedom of the natural man vs the freedom of the civil man. A point is made during the length of the curriculum to express that you can't have 100% of both worlds, and that you can't move back from the civil life (though you can be exiled from it, technically. but youre mind is changed). I feel like the tiger represents the natural freedom where you only have your basic needs and never need beyond those basic needs (though many have debated the negative reality which comes with this, like the dog has). And the dog on the other had represents civility, where his needs go beyond that of basic necessity, though he posses leisure the natural man will never have (such as easily accessible food and water). Interestingly enough the dog tries to give the tiger civility which made me think of the quotes by Jean Jacque Rousseau, “they consent to wear chains so that they will be able to give them to others” (77). “[The weak] all ran to chain themselves, in the belief that they secured their liberty. . ." (70) In addition the concept of civility and the constant pursuit of modernity will lead to ones eventual downfall, similarly to the death of the dog at the end of the video. I'm probably missing a lot of stuff but this is what I remember off the top of my head. Good job on this project so far! I'm not sure if you've ever read Jean Jacques Rousseau, but if you haven't I'd recommend you look into it because its very similar (though yours is 10x if im being honest. Rousseau is probably slightly offended)

I think that the tiger neither killed nor freed the dog, but essentially scared the shit out of him. The dog went on and on about the freedoms he got as a pet versus the dangers of being a wild animal, but he didn’t realize that there were dangers to being kept on a lead as well (not being able to run away) I think this interpretation represents pros and cons of living a more sedentary lifestyle bs a nomadic one While having a 9-5 means that you never have to worry about food, it also means that you’re *tethered* by it in that it limits how far you can travel without prior permission. The tiger has the freedom to go where he pleases, he’s usually kept to a certain territory. While the tigers human counterparts wouldn’t be outright chased from cities, they might be pushed out by social stigma

The statement of true freedom at the end was a great touch to the overal story. Because in the end no one is really free and our perception of what freedom is varies from person to person, and even then do we have our own chuckles keeping us from true freedom. Not a bad commentary. Live life free within the bounds of order, or live life free within the bounds of passion. Both come with chains attached. Both come with pleasures. Order is more enjoyable, overall, in the way that any addiction is enjoyable--it's like a blissful narcotic whose side-effects can be easily managed. It's more conducive to building everything we like to partake in. Never forget, though... the ones who live life by their passions can and will snuff out our ordered existences at any moment they choose.

Truthfully, in these kinds of stories there's always one thing the dog leaves out, love. Pets don't really care about their freedom because they have a loving family,(at least this goes for dogs, not so much for cats, they are solitary Animals and don't exactly need love the way dogs do, though there are exceptions) and if they don't, they often run away, no matter how tightly you chain them, and even the loved dogs run away sometimes, but the important part is that they always come back, because compared to the harsh kill or be killed world out there, home is a nice safe comfort, I mean, most Animals live longer in captivity then their wild counterparts, but honestly, the tiger and the dog both have it right, life is often a trade, sometimes you have to sacrifice things to enjoy other things, one isn't better than the other, they both just have different experiences

Even if the tiger killed the dog, the tiger has endangered himself by killing a member of “society.” We are never free to do anything without consequences, even if we think we’re free. Those who choose not to hurt others aren’t free to do whatever they want, but they are free of punishment. It’s up to the individual to decide what’s more important.

Corvid katana- you’ve got a new sub.... I love the message behind this, however I did see room to make a mini series out of this and possibly send more of a message, as in a way, many of us are the dog tied to the leash. If we want to get out of it, we have to work for it. The tiger could have chosen to free the dog, in exchange for many tasks down the road. However, I do love this and I love the message behind it, And hope you continue to make great animations like this in the nearing future.

I like the ending where the dog’s collar is torn off. Maybe a test the tiger set for him, a decision, whether to see the tiger’s own side of freedom and truly be “free” or to stay and always be caged. I absolutely love this concept and the animation in the video. 👐

A thought has occurred to me to make both freedoms given to Odei. After all, the tiger did say “I’m better off showin’ ya what true freedom looks like”

I find the ending being completely perfect as it is. Their interactions are amazing. Animation spot on. I think that leaving the dog dead, killed by a tiger really makes sense with his final words being I'll show you true freedom. Because he really did, by killing the dog the dog is free of his own needs, his body, and the life he knew, he had become freed.

We can debate about what freedom means in this life. But in truth both are wrong.... and right... in the end Death is the only truth there is, it’s the one thing none of us can escape. I guess death is the only true freedom there is, when you really think about it. So don’t waste your life arguing over pointless things, live and be happy while your on this earth to do so, be kind and help others. If ya believe the dog or the tiger it doesn’t matter in the end because we all face death some time. So don’t worry about it and just focus on being happy with yourself,

i believe there are three types of freedom shown in this animatic. the freedom of the wild, the freedom of captivity or the freedom of death. i also believe this animatic shows we can choose to be wild or captive but death isn't a choice. all freedom has its own strengths and flaws. these strengths and flaws can be beneficial to the person born to live in it and be detrimental to the person who wasn't meant to but death is one that everyone can devastate. (hope this made sense! ;w;)

tiger is pretty much right. What that dog has is the illusion of freedom. He actually cant do much for himself cause now he has to depend and trust that his master will continue to do theses things to him, as long as he follows masters rules.

I like how you made the story better. The original story (that I’ve read in a book of tales) was basically: Dog: Here! Food and water! No worries and there’s safety! Big cat: But you have an uncomfortable collar LOL. Peace ✌️ (I don’t think there was a chain) And that’s the end of the story. But here the dog is saying “you’re a slave to your own needs,” which is SO TRUE.

Then again, I’d actually rather be the dog in this situation. I think the tiger’s style of freedom is too often romanticized. People don’t realize that the tiger has to depend on himself alone, which sounds like freedom until you hurt your leg and can’t hunt because of it. Nobody will help you hunt, you could starve to death, and your territory will probably be taken over by some other tiger. That freedom honestly doesn’t look that free to me. I would hate to live in constant stress over how I’m going to get my next meal. That would leave me with no time to dream and explore more intellectual interests. I would also hate to only be able to stay in one area like the tiger, where I have to fight over resources constantly. There is so much more to life than a struggle to stay alive.

I come back to this video every now and then and I still like to believe that the tiger spared the dog, only snapping his collar. the tiger for one says he wants to show the dog what real freedom is and he wouldn't get the chance to prove his points right if he just outright killed the dog. for another, when the tiger leaves the dog house, there's no blood on him. if he had killed the dog, there likely would've been blood. I like to think that since one of his arguments is that he gets to make his own decisions, he decided to break the dog's collar and free him of his chains so he could have something he didn't have before: a choice. he could choose to stand by what he believes freedom is and stay with his owners, or he could choose to test the tiger's beliefs and see how much freedom he has on the other side of the fence though I understand why some people think that he just outright killed the dog

Personally speaking, while Oedi dying is an interesting ending I think showing that the tiger ripped off his collar instead would show that both arguments are valid rather than just killing off that idea. Honestly this is a very well made animatic that talks about what people think freedom really means.
