I love the way shikamaru's father provokes him in order to help him release those soul eating emotions. We all lose people we love, it's part of life we know that. As you watched the video or read this comment someone somewhere lost a loved one... For more painful that it is, this understanding makes me appreciate this fragile life of ours even more, after all any moment can be the last.

This scene literally rips my heart out every time I listen to or hear it. Shikamaru’s normally totally calm and collected demeanor just slowly breaking down. His dad even giving his son a loving but forceful shove in the right direction towards processing grief correctly. And the sheer support and even adoration Nara has for his son is honestly rare as fuck in anime. I’ll always love this as one of Naruto’s most human scenes.

@Skimarman My life is a mess, and has been for quite a while. But over the past two years iv gone through the worst types of pain and became stuck in a shell. Knowing that there's absolutely nothing I can do to fix the problem, the only thing is to move forward, fuck yes it's hard to the point it feels impossible and not worth trying, and tbh I don't think iv gotten anywhere. But even tho iv been kicked to the curb I'l always have that bit of hope that shit will get better, whether I believe it or not, I'l never stop hoping and if you're stuck in the dark, you actually end up loving it and getting used to it, but don't kid yourself anyone who's in the dark wishes for nothing more than happiness. Stop being arrogant to your own self growth my brother even if there's nothing you can do in a certain situation, make a new one a good one and don't bring the negativeness with it. The most important thing ignore other people's hate, seek peace within yourself. If you keep living in the past you will destroy your future. Keep your head up and focus on finding something positive, even if it's a small step.

This hits home since my grandpa passed away I felt the same way he did in the retrospective that I wish I could have done more to help him and the thoughts of “did I do a good job at taking care of him” always liger in side me and made me have the same feelings shikamaru has and just like his father said my dad told me to do just that...”let it out” I only wish I had cried harder. But he is a better place now and I still have to take care of my grandma now. Sorry for going on this rant it’s just the common feeling I had

As someone who has lost someone at a young age and someone close, my dad, the pain and words of this scene had felt so real to me that I actually started to cry. I could physically feel the pain, the crys shikamaru let out. And the words of his dad also hit home. It was so real that I could tell he was hiding the pain after Asuma died. The mixed emotions of pain, sadness, fear, doubt, anger, and much more is so amazingly displayed here, so well that it actually felt nice when he said "Im proud to be your father." Its been so long since Ive heard those words, hell I don't remember his voice, but when His dad said "Let it all out" gave me both warmth and the comfort I needed to let out of the bad. I thank naruto for helping me cope with my demons and hell.
