Sarah, After watching this vid I felt compelled to post a comment. As a software developer with over 15 years of experience I want to say that: 1). you do not need to explain yourself how and how long do you work to anyone. let me repeat that: 2). you do not need to explain yourself how and how long do you work to anyone. I hope we can agree on that. The only party that can have any interest in that is google and your immediate supervisor. I can solemnly confirm, that SD work consists mostly of eating, bathroom breaks, and then doing some coding. Your in-office videos are perfect as they are. I am more thrilled to see clips of cantinas, food, and roof terrace than inspecting another if-else or test scenario. All those moments when you had to stay late, help your work colleagues or guide interns - they are not going to make it into a video. You remember all those moments, and we do not need to know about them. Period. End of rant.

Haters gonna hate. Realistically, it’s pretty hard to make coding content compelling; it’s a much more niche than “living in NYC” content. Even for someone who really nails coding KZbin, like ThePrimeagen, has a smaller audience than your channel, which is still in its early growth stage. Most humans have large blocks of time everyday that are uninteresting to an external audience. I’m a fan of your approach of a timelapse of you at a desk, then going back to something where you can craft a more compelling story.

As a software developer (new to the industry) I guess it can be hard for non-tech people to quantify exactly what the work entails. It can definitely seem very glamorous and lazy from an outsiders point of view, but they also have no idea what the workload looks like. I think you're doing great !! I started watching your videos when I started college. So it was really nice to find out that you're also in tech ! Personally I would LOVE to see more tech videos from you, but whatever content makes you happy is what I'd like to see most ❤

generally, viewers have no idea what they're even talking about when they have feedback to give. I love your videos, especially as someone who isn't in the tech industry, food in NYC looks incredible ofc you want to share it. People who are happy with your content generally won't express it, it's always the complainers who are the loudest. I think those comments come from a place of jealousy unfortunately. It likely doesn't even matter how much hard work you show - this type of person isn't rational and just focuses on what benefits/perks others have and they don't have. Haters are just projecting their insecurities onto you, anyone who is truly happy can be happy for others and don’t feel need to bring others down. As for what content to make, I love the Q&A sessions because a lot of working in tech are the soft skills. Especially having the POV from a woman of color is very niche in tech, especially as an engineer. Getting advice on how to navigate your career and tech is much more useful than watching you code tbh (there’s plenty of channels that already do that but not many for women of color in tech roles). Keep being you and being awesome!

I love the chill vlogs, makes me miss the city. As for the work comments - I believe that just comes from someone that is not familiar with the space or maybe even someone that may be a little younger and not understand what working is like. A good company has breaks, I WFH and if I ever "vloged" it would be just me playing with my dog and making lunch at home on a work day. Obviously I can't show my actual work, that would actually be a bit unprofessional on my side since I work with sensitive information.

Its a viewers fault if they cant comprehend that a 13 minute video out of a 24 hour day is not going to show all the work you do especially because if you're working hard you probably won't have time to show it and need to concentrate on the work. Also showing the benefits google has like food access is helpful because it shows what more companies should strive for and can help employees make better demands for their jobs. That commenter sounds more bitter towards capitalism than towards you. I think a lot of people enjoy the vlogs for showing your life and balancing work, side hustle, and social life and then q&a's for more actual job context. There's always going to be the parasocial viewers who expect full access to your life but they need to understand that is not healthy or a reasonable expectation. Keep doing you!!!

I am from Belarus and I am a senior year student of computer science. I like to watch people from this area. It is a pity that there are few such atmospheric channels, many are closed due to lack of time due to the combination of work, study, personal life, etc. The code is interesting. At least people like to see a good picture, you can just film a other screen with various sometimes colorful obscure characters😀. I also want to say that I really enjoy your videos about your life as a software engineer and that I didn’t have any comments when I first watched your videos. But as I kept watching, maybe time stamps throughout the day would be helpful? To see how long you were working before you go to lunch, how long your lunch was, when you get home, etc. That might make you uneasy privacy wise so I understand if you’re uncomfortable with that. But that’s something I came up with once you asked for feedback. But even still, I love your content without the time stamps and I want you to do what’s better for you!

I really enjoy your content as is!! But also as a comp sci student I find the technical aspect of your job interesting as well. I think it would be cool if you mentioned what you were working on (in a very broad sense obviously) and maybe what aspects of the code you are finding difficult? Maybe also mention how many hours you put into a session and the reality of being a developer (the good and the bad) in conjunction with the reality of being a developer at your company specifically. I hope maybe this helped???? Your content is enjoyable as it is though :) many people may click on your channel expecting to get different things out of it, but you cant please them all.

It's great that you're open to suggestions to improve but if you're improving for the wrong people who nitpick things and say things that are just not true and you know that aren't true, it's going to be exhausting. Especially if they comment on things that offer no substance for improvements. Unfortunately, being a content creator means that there are going to be people who don't like you just because. At the end of the day, you're sharing your life with an audience so with that said, you have the right to make the choice of what parts of your life to share. It's obvious that a 15 min video is a heavily condensed version of what your actual life is. And with that, hope you have a beautiful day! I really enjoy your work vlogs and your contents in general. They're aesthetically pleasing; your personality and the way you carry yourself when you speak is very calm and soothing. It's very enjoyable to watch or just have it on as background noise when I'm working.

I love the shots around Google, you are clearly someone who's sacrificed and worked hard to get such a wonderful job. I've worked in Tech for the State of California and frankly there is no comparison to Google or other Private Sector tech jobs. We work in delapaadated and horrible environments, so it's fun watching vicariously through your work and walks around NYC...Do you ever drive to work?
