I was a freshman back in 2018. Now im about to finish my masters degree and hold a high level position at a well known engineering company. It feels like a lifetime ago when i first stumbled across this channel in my intro to physics class. So much has come and gone since then. Friends, classmates staying up till 3 am before finals, college relationships and flames, TAs, professors, old bosses and coworkers. Many of those memories are nearly forgotten, archived in some deep vault in my mind waiting to be reactivated someday. But this channel.... i remember many specific videos vividly. When i was at my wits end you always had just the right way to explain things. From an old supporter, thank you for everything my friend.

Hi! It's the celebration of teacher's day and I just wanted to greet you a Happy Teacher's Day. You're not really my teacher in real life, but I've learned a lot because of your videos. I really appreciate all the work you've done in providing us clear lessons. Thank you so much!

Can you explain the negative sign?

If you’re talking about the first question: the force of gravity is downwards, but we are moving the book from 10m to 25m so we are moving it up, in the opposite direction to gravity. This is why it becomes a negative. Also he explains at around 3:10 that if the Force and Displacement are in different directions then we get negative work done. Hope that helps

Using definite integral to find total work done proportional 1/r^2, we get result proportional to negative 1/r. Thus at infinity, U=0.
