Yes, in the very near future. I'm 58, and could have retired at 55 years old if I wanted, but I love working and new challenges.

For people with a work ethic, I believe life balance is the hardest decisions we face, regardless of what work we do. I do not see how a one man operation can do the work, answer the phone, handle the emergency calls, billing, collections, book keeping, and staying abreast of changes (unless you can contract that out). You are a fabulous role model for your trade. We appreciate the time you put into these videos and your sharing of your experience based craft knowledge. Much of you work I consider to be if “artisan” quality.

Definitely gotta have a balance! I had my own landscaping business and would just work work work. I felt like I neglected my family even though I was making good money; I wasn’t being there enough! So I got out of it, got into the hvac trades, and I’ve never been happier. I get to come home every day unless I’m traveling for work which isn’t very often. And can still provide for my family. My dads passing away really made me open my eyes to this!

We gotta make time for the family since we are always finding the dough outside to come home and put food on the table. Hey bro. I am just down the road from ya in Owensboro, KY. Been in the HVAC world so far as of today, 32 Years. Started my own business in 2016; Been a real challenge. which I know you are aware of from your videos. I watch a lot of HVAC channels. But i really connect with you since you and me look at the job, cutomers, employess and over all idea of HVAC idustry prettty much exact same way. Which is very refreshing; So much of what you and I stand for and do has gone to the wayside. Mainly integrity. anyways wanted to say hello and keep up the good work with your videos.

Great points. That's great advice not just for the trades though. I'm a programmer and last year I worked an average of 60 hour weeks for 9 months straight with some weeks being 70. Getting up at 6AM to start working until 2AM the next day and then turning around and starting at 6AM again about did me in.

Its the on call that really can start to weigh on you. Also the 12-14 hour days everyday, also when the boss asks for people to work when we should technically be off. The hard worker wants to say yes but the other half knows you should be able to enjoy your day and not feel bad or feel like your a terrible employee because youre entitled to your time off... This video is a strange coincidence because this was my meditation today, all day long. HVAC techs shouldnt have to feel they need to be available 24/7.

This is the biggest question I have in HVAC, came from machining for 8 years to HVAC looking for something more stable than my previous industry being so tightly tied to Oil and Gas. The Work life balance hit me sideways and doing 10-14 hr days burnt me out hard. Miss hitting the gym every day after an 8 hour shift and still having my evening after or meeting up with friends for a beer and wings or just even gaming to unwind. Contracting new home construction and trying to work out how often I should do an 8 hour shift or 10's. Most guys seem to grind out 10-12 hr days every day. Guy who trained me would work from wake up to when he went to sleep. Its a tough balance to hash out when Im trying to figure out how Im going to make this work

Currently looking to get out of the trade for this very reason. Most HVAC employers have unrealistic expectations. Honestly, if they would just do away from the on call/ 24 hour service crap I would never leave. Lol

The worst part of the trade. People expect us to be available 24 7 365. I'm looking at exit routes from the trade for this reason

This is one of the benefits of a larger company. You can spread out the on call responsibility. That’s one reason I stopped working for myself. Either that or sometimes you just have to shut down and you won’t be able to meet the needs of your customers. Just my thoughts.

I feel this I feel like I try to work as many hours as I can to show myself and my company what a good technician I am. This summer I really over did it I was burnt out half way through. @qualityhvac I will be in Nashville next month I'd love to get coffee with u and just have a conversation I always said you set the bar as far as quality goes and if I started a company I'd want all my work to look like yours
