Don't forget to add a simple Chrome Remote Desktop connection as another tool to navigate this connected world we live in. 🌎 This backup option saved me several times. 😅👍

@@ScottAlanMillerVlog I want to to take an extended trip to Nicaragua, work remotely and study Spanish. Is there a way to make it look like my work laptop never left California, USA? Any new software on my computer has to be installed by my company’s IT department. I do have to log into my company’s VPN after connecting to the internet. Would i need to use another VPN or just how could this work? BTW, love your videos. Nicaragua is beautiful and I want to return, just for longer.

A non-related question for you: In the comments threads on some videos of recent street flooding in Managua, there is mention made over and over that the cause is people improperly getting rid of their trash. Is it because it ends up clogging up overflow drains or something? Seems like that would be a pretty big motivation to deal with the issue. The flooding looked like a river.

Yes, that's often cited as a cause and it's easy to see it as plausible. The problem, though, is like global warming. You have first, convince literally everyone to agree it is happening. Then you have to get everyone to agree that they care. Then you have to get everyone to stop together. Whoever doesn't stop ruins it for everyone else. So while identifying it might be easy, and getitng lots of people to want to stop it might be easy, getting universal enforcement, all at once, is super hard.

Thanks for this info. Didn’t about this. The phone thing, is it for landline or mobile? If it’s mobile, if someone texts you old school (not iMessage for example), do you receive the texts?

Phone would ACTUALLY be for both. A cell phone connected to wifi calling appears exactly the same in the US or abroad. To the phone company, it's local in the US (or wherever your service is from.) For a desk phone (landlines don't actually exist, that's a confusing misnomer that will lead you astray) it is just a computer so whatever you do with a computer to make it "in the US", you can do the same with your desk phone.

What if the laptop is provided by the company you work for and you can’t install anything on it yourself because it needs an admin approval and the company is the admin? How can you use a vpn or virtual Remote Desktop then?

In that case it's a bit more annoying, but you are still just fine. You can't use remote desktop in that case, but you can use a VPN. What you need to do is move from a simple desktop software VPN (that's a newer thing) to a more traditional old school hardware VPN. These are "impossible to bypass". This is how we did it 25 years ago. Back when my team did video games and those games did "LAN gaming only" and there were no desktop VPN applications, this is how we did it. Any decent business firewall (which are CHEAP) has built in VPN capability. You simply replace your desktop app with that. These are actually really nice in some ways because you can tell physically that you are plugged in in such a way that the VPN will always be there, there is no way for it to fail and you still be online. Inconvenient for moving around constantly. But once you are setting up your home network for a place you live, it's something people "should" have anyway. So a little more know how needed for initial setup, but works even better in most cases.

It's the gopro. so yes wide angle. but it's the same camera i normally use
