This is also a barrio walk. The walk starts around the Barrio of Carlos Canales and continues west on the Poneloya Road. We end up at the Ecolodge Rancho Los Alpes.

Your case for Nicaraguan living without formal residency is very compelling. Governments can change their positions on immigration, but residency is not necessarily a protection from negative outcomes. Take Maylasia for example. My wife and I visited there in 2019. A beautiful place, so much so that we considered applying for the MM2H visa (Maylasia My Second Home). Good thing we didn’t. During the pandemic, the country tightened the renewal requirements and existing residents under less stringent qualifications were not “grandfathered in”. Many MM2H visa holders, some of whom had invested in property, were thrown into a panic. Presently, I reside in the Philippines. So long as I enter the country with my wife (who is a citizen), I qualify for a one-year stay. Formal residency would come with a few perks such as senior discounts. However, pricing here is so reasonable that I hardly miss those discounts. I also avoid repeated contact with the immigration bureaucracy. I just get my passport stamped upon entry at the airport and that’s it. Based on your description, Nicaragua would involve a little more contact with the government and an additional exit from the country compared to what I’m doing now. That’s very appealing.

That's super interesting. Mexico just made a change similar to Maylasia - residents were not grandfathered and many felt that they had to leave. That's going on right now.

So I though tLos Alpes was on that hill, but maybe it's not? Ramon used to go there to talk to groups that came down in the summer, like university trips (before 2018). He knows the owners. I thought it was sort of a hotel, but maybe it's more of a hostel with dorm rooms, and it might be the place you were referring to with camping. I obviously never went down that road, just always thought about if giong by the sign on the road, lol. It involves horse riding evidently?

Yup, that's like the hot new trend in "too much money and too little common sense" Plan B panickers. One good passport is all you need. If you lack that, get one if possible. But once you have the right one for you, that's it, you're done.
