Another problem in the US is the licenses system. It keeps people locked out of system. Some people don't need jobs they need their own business.

How did welfare affect the Great Depression? While attitudes toward government assistance began to change during the Great Depression, going on welfare was still viewed as a painful and humiliating experience for many families. MY HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED!!

I remember the hell I went through when I was on welfare after my mother died and we were no longer eligible for her social security. It was degrading, and I thought I was overreacting when I'd just lose it and cry at the poverty and indignity. I see now that I wasn't, but a lot of people looked at me like I was! I'd never want to go that route again.😒

Wonderful documentary, living In Sweden it's so easy to accept benefits like aid with paying rent. I refuse to accept any, I want to KNOW that all I have I produced on my own. That I am the reason for my well-being. One could I supposed accept money from the government, in repayment for taxes stolen from you, but I don't want to give the government any justification for taking that money from me. They take it against my will and I'll survive it, I will not come crawling on my knees asking for money and at the same time justifying, to them, their theft.

Sweden is the country I was thinking of when I posted my comment. They had more per capita billionaires than the United States did a few years ago. Sweden was number 1 and the U.S. was number 2. Why do you believe you are alone in what you do for yourself? You taught yourself everything that you learned, raised yourself from a baby, conceived yourself, or what?

Can we see a source for the claims on the chance of getting pregnant after 5 years? I can’t seem to get the math to add up to the numbers claimed

if the government would FORCE the absent parent to pay child support, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!!!!!!!! most people would not need or qualify for welfare. the parent on welfare is looked down on. when people should be shaming the parent who abandoned family.

The welfare system encourages people to not get married sure. But doesn’t it also say, if you are married with kids you should have enough “get up and go” to provide for your own family.

Holy crap. I completely forgot about that. Even if it's just planting wind breaks in the fields and roadsides (like the CCC) it's better than nothing.

Saying that working is just as important as having a roof over your head is putting the people on welfare at a disadvantage IMO. The cost of living in most places in the U.S. is high and people are required to work multiple jobs just to scrap by. The larger society says you need to be independent and pull yourself up by the bootstraps, but we give money to wealthy people and subsidies to certain industries and we don't give them a hard time about it. People are afraid of welfare like it threatens the economy, but there are already countries with a long history of providing social safety nets for their people that are actually better and their economies are as strong as the U.S. so really there should be no debate. This video doesn't really help people think very much.
