The traditional way is to hold a piece of scrap in the vise and tap 2 holes in it. The program uses the tapped hole as a datum as it has just been drilled and tapped. The important thing to remember is to drill your parts before making the fixture. Simply bolt the parts and run the program, no clocking up parallel or finding two datums For repeat parts just bolt them on and they are already to go. All toolmakers and millers will have a piece of scrap full of previous tapped holes for this purpose. A tenon on the bottom of the standoff would keep them aligned with the tee slots.

Nice. I like it. I do alot of small parts on my little home hobby cnc and this is a good idea for alot of my work.

Button head screws have lower head heights and there are low head cap screws theoretically also available with half the head height.

Yes, low head height screws would be better - button head screws use too small a key to allow fully torquing. Cheers, Cliff

If you have a lathe, screws with any head height are always available. Snap Jaws, for rapid jaw change on a mill vise, use modified socket head cap screws that have a shorter head than normal. It would be to your advantage to use carbide to cut and modify them quickly.
