Like you said come up with the prop to steady the knife, add an angle cube, add their 3D printed 4” stone attachment to use any stones. It will be a perfect system. This will sell so well anyway, but giving someone the ability to use what they want out of the box will be that much better.

This system is great! My main gripe with this sharpener is the stones wear out quickly with recurved blades made out of strong steel.. not entirely sure how they'd fix that issue. Maybe spherical grinding stones? That itself presents its own problem though. Easily replaced stones would definitely make the precess much more intuitive.

The stones are easily replaceable, just pop them out and put in a new one. I just bought a 220 grit stone for my original kit, and the strop. It's just an adhesive backing, grab a thin flat head and pry out the old stone

If I hadn't bought a Wicked Edge Go last year I definitely would've bought this sharpener in the upgrade kit. I have a buddy who uses the standard version of this kit and he is shown me some of his edges and they look fantastic for only 50 bucks!!! 😃 I have the Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener & still use it on my kitchen knives, it's perfect for that! Work Sharp, you're killing it! Now just release a clamp & diamond plates to supplement the plastic ones you already have, so people have the option! 😃

Good to use an angle cube and record your actual angle on a specific knife you’re sharpening. Also, less pressure is best if you’d like an even bevel.

Hi , i think this type of sharpening systems are not sharpening a blade on the original angle but on a forced angle and only if the blade is perfectly round with the same radius on the whole lenght of the blade this kind of system will work and i said not this sysytem but all the systems with only a pivot point. If you are not in accord with me, you can make a video to show with the electronic angle meter to show everybody in different spots of the blade it is a different angle and that can damage the blades and messed up your entire angle of the blade because when you haveTHE SAME HEIGHT BUT DIFFERENT DISTANCE, THE ANGLE BETWEEN THE BLADE AND STONE CHANGE, and THATS NOT GOOD FOR THE BLADES. After few sharpening sessions with these kind of systems you will have on a single blade a mutitude of angles that VARY with the shape of the blade, the more curves or chages of a direction of a blade has the more angles you'll have because, LIKE I SAID BEFORE, THE DISTANCE AND ANGLES ARE INVERSELY PROPORTIONAL then as one quantity increases, the other decreases.

I really think the precision adjust is a great tool and that at a very good price. I like to recommend it to people that dont feel comfortable doing freehand sharpening. I myself prefere freehand or my wicked edge system. (But my freehand stones and the wicked edge for sure are both much more expensive than the we precision adjust)
@willoneil1
@willoneil1 9 ай бұрын
The precision adjust is a great knife sharpening system. The only complaints I have with it is the thumb screw on the clamp is all plastic including the threads. I've had my precision adjust for about six months and I've already had to replace the clamp twice because the thumb screw stripped out as I was tightening the clamp. My only other complaint is that you can't sharpen smaller knifes because they sit to deep in the clamp.

It is a neat system for sure, I thought about buying one on sale for $50, but I have a 1x42 wet/dry grinder and if I'm going to set up a Work Sharp I'll set up my water drip and ceramic belts or silicon carbide belts I use for rocks. I mostly do a low grit diamond to form my edges unless it's bad, then to the grinder, but not everyone has one or the skill. I made the drip easy and with a sponge it doesn't throw crap all over with the guard closed. Shoot you know why they don't make all those accessories right? More money selling their stuff. Old as business to try and keep it in house, but there are already OEMs, they'll eventually have to make holders for other stones and what not.

System is good for small knives. You have to get an attachment so it don't wiggle and change the angle. However, even if you do get the attachment if your blade is big, it will wiggle. I ended up buying the edge pro apex 4. A bit more money but it's way more stable.
@torfinnjohnsrud793
@torfinnjohnsrud793 3 жыл бұрын
Looks like a good addition to the system. I believe the upgrade kit will be $80, and the whole system with the rods will be $120. So that leaves the dilemma of whether to get the base model, a universal stone holder, and some 4 inch stones instead of the upgrade kit or whole "elite" version... Hmmmm. Also, and maybe you've done this before, but can you make a video on the lowest angle you can get on thin knives? I'm thinking the short blade of a SAK would be a good reference point since those are pretty ubiquitous.

@@NeevesKnives On this system. I'm curious about the limitations about the stones hitting the clamp. Although from what I've seen a 20° angle can be achieved in most narrow blades, and I'm not opposed to that as a compromise, I'd be interested in seeing what the limitations are for this system. I'm sure you can put an insane 10 dps on a SAK freehand lol. Not that it would last... Also in regard to my main comment, by "thin" I actually meant narrow, as in from spine to edge, in case that wasn't clear.

Idk what would be the lowest angle you can get but it would be in the 20 range maybe a little higher I chamfered the edge of the clamp and I normally run a 17 degree round about angle on most knives and Iv had very little trouble with what your talking about the stone hitting clamp on a thin blade long as I barley put the blade in the clamp so the most knife possible is left exposed you need a very tiny bite on your knife

I’m really new to knife sharpening, and have been looking at different systems. How does this system compare with Lansky?
@echosierra9990
@echosierra9990 3 жыл бұрын
I have both, and I like the work sharp more. The Lansky is nice, and I use it for knives with really narrow blades, but the work sharp is nice, because you can get the exact angle you need, without the whole re-profiling of the edge bevel to match one of the pre-determined angles. I can resharpen a blade in about 15 minutes on the worksharp device. I don’t go for mirror polished edges, I go for sharp edges, although the new rods will help in the mirror edge department.
@mikeo8790
@mikeo8790 3 жыл бұрын
I agree 💯 with echo. Lansky is a great system for most pocket knives but work sharp is easy and reliable. Lansky has slop in each hole that can make your edge vary from sharpening to sharpening also each rod in the lansky has a slight difference causing variance from rod to rod. In it's defense, it is a daily carry in my Jeep it will put an edge on most knives. But the work sharp is faster repeatable and very accurate.

@@NeevesKnives Thanks! I thought this system might be better for having an integrated stand and the ability to pick specific angles rather than preset ones. I’ve got a 1000/6000 whetstone that I’ve been trying out, but I haven’t gotten the knack yet. I’m practicing with a cheap knife, hoping to put a better edge on my Safe Maker push dagger, after enough practice. It has a modified chisel/hollow grind, and I’m nervous to try without a good guiding system.

The problem I have with these kinds of sharpeners is the blade clamp. It's not always clear-cut getting it straight if you have a blade that has a swedge or a spine that curves or drops. Narrow blades like on the Ultratech, or old-school slip joints are also troublesome. I like my Spyderco sharp maker. It works on everything

For less than 2 dollars you can go to hardware store and get a 3/8 inch rod coupling and two 3/8 inch cap bolts 3/4 inch long. Screw cap bolts in each end and it's fully adjustable to put under the clamp for larger knives. I put electrical tape on ends of bolts for a little padding. That was just for preference though.

Gritomatic just recently released a new version of the stone holder for this system. The LE stone holder is $16.50!! Available in 4" and 6"
@robbysullivan1154
@robbysullivan1154 3 жыл бұрын
I have both holders from gritomatic. If you are able to get the hapstone version , it is much better. Not only is it built more solid. It also gives you full range of motion on your stones. The LE version has the ball handle, which shortens your stroke. That being said, the LE version is still a decent option.

If I’m reading the info correctly on the original kit and the upgrade kit, some of the stones are duplicates. I wonder why they did that rather than giving you all different grits.
@NeevesKnives

Either way the stones wear out so having a duplicate would be a good thing, and if you already had the original stones they could possibly be wore out by now

do you know why diamond stones are not expensive?
@NeevesKnives
@NeevesKnives 3 жыл бұрын
Well the diamonds are monocrystalin or what ever they are lab created diamonds and they are expensive in a way look up larg diamond plates they are hundreds sometimes. Their are different levels of quality my venevs are 180$ a piece, but it just depends on how they are made and the size, it's diamond dust electro plated to a metal surface, venevs are resin bonded throughout

Not the best system for thin, narrow blades (think shun paring) blade and low angle (Japanese 15-17deg). Problem is the clamp: When you put the knife deep into jaws of the clamp, very little if the blade is exposed and with the angle you’ll wind up grinding the clamp vs the bevel. Nothing is perfect.

Sorry but not worth it... 80 dollar for 3 stone you already have, and 3 different grit stone... With 3 rod and 3 stone holder... Not even going to mention the strop since it's pointless having a strop on any system... A free hand strop is 100time better. Buy the normal kit for 50 and grab yourself one of those orange stone holder... This the best way to go... For the same price of the elite $120...
