@@egx161more perfect union just released a video about the usps. they’re not like that anymore unfortunately. my friend worked for them within the last two years and all the trucks constantly break down and you pray your daily shitty truck doesn’t break down cause then they’ll make you drive an even crappier one until your daily vehicle is fixed, constant 10+ hour days because they were understaffed, understaffing created a culture of never asking off, customers treat you like a robot. I guess they could’ve taken a long lunch to make their day 12+ hours though. i feel like ups probably gets treated the best because of their union.

I remember recently I ordered something that said “pre-order” in the description which usually means a long wait before the package comes but it was at my house within the week. I wondered if people expect their products so quickly that they put the preorder label there just in case people were upset with the shipping time being “too long”. I order from amazon for Christmas and maybe one other time a year for a special household item or another gift. I live in apartments though and my neighbors will have one or more new packages per day. what in gods name are they constantly ordering….i feel like they people with shopping addictions make the problem so so so much worse.

The irony is that there are better deals outside of Amazon... Amazon has just become a brand name for "convenience." Not necessarily "cheaper". Search the internet, including direct from manufacturer. You may be surprised that you can get better deals elsewhere. Just because it says "Amazon Pick", it's not a better or cheaper product, it's just likely that Amazon makes a better profit from that specific product when sold.

I was a delivery driver for Amazon for 4 months and in those 4 months, I got truckers knee and runners knee and after shifts I would sometimes limp over to my dispatch. I also tried being a warehouse worker, but only lasted 4 days before I quit and said never again. Running down isles putting packages that are on carts in bags and trying to manage each isle, sifting through packages and running to the cart it goes to, and the one that made me quit mid shift was separating hundreds of packages per minute into “A” or “B” on the assembly line while standing in place for hours on end. At the first 15 minute break, I tried to walk forward but my legs were completely stuck straight and I almost fell over. The hours for delivery were 11am-9pm but you can go home early if you finish early, and for the warehouse it was 1am-11am with two 15 min breaks and a 30 minute lunch break.

Runner's knee after 4 months?! I have empathy for you as a fellow driver and of course well done for even doing it for 4 months considering many people do not even last beyond the first week lol but wow, you must not have been in shape or your body was not used to that kind of physical exertion if that is all that it took. I was a competitive long distance cross country and track and field runner for like 6 years, so to me Amazon delivery is a walk in the park physically. To me, it's the psychological process of staring at 380 packages and getting out of a vehicle 200 times a day that is actually more of a slight challenge to me. I agree with you about warehouse. To me, the warehouse is excruciating. No way, not for me. Very much so prefer to be outside driving than in a warehouse like that. I was too poor to go to the doctor so I’m not sure if it runners knee or truckers knee, but considering that I was running so much and driving so much I just figured it was either or both, but thinking about it I guess it was truckers knee because it was my right knee that hurt badly.

@@bg7290 When you have to live paycheck to paycheck. It's not as simple as just quitting your job and finding another. Because a missed paycheck means no gas, no food, no rent, no water, no power, etc... not to mention of you are working 5 days on 12 hour shifts, when would you have the time to look or even go to a job interview? And even if you some how managed to find another job. It's sometimes 3-4 weeks before you get that first check. How do you survive during that time? Who's paying your gas to get to your new job? How do you afford food? Rent? Power? Etc.... The system is designed to keep you poor. And that's what they are trying to change.

I bought a Zojurushi bread making machine. Its price was $400. I bought it from Amazon and they sent me something that looked like it but didn’t work. Also, the box came opened like it was an old product someone had repackaged. I called Zojurushi to complain, and they told me that they didn’t sell anything on Amazon and that it must’ve been a counterfeit. Amazon had made it seem like I was buying directly from the manufacturer, when really it was some third party. Then Amazon wouldn’t process my return. I called American Express, and whaddya know? I worked for a dirty warehouse for a company that practically owns the whole town. They deliver linen to hotels and hospitals. The linen is dirty af as it’s stepped on, machine dirt gets on it, it falls on the floor and still gets packed because workers get $15.61 and don’t gaf. You have to keep your productivity score at 85% all day or you’re scolded like a child because managers and everyone can see your score. I worked out 5days a week and only took bathroom breaks at lunch. I was constantly in the red with a low score because their machines from 1950😂 would get clogged and you’d have to stop. You couldn’t log out and save your score. So by the time a mechanic fixed it your score went down. Then jackazz mangers would move you around which lowered your score and you had to sort in huge bins the correct linen to feed the machine and that would slow you down. You also were pulling wet, tangled sheets and blankets out of bins. You had to be fast af and never stop in order to keep at 85%. No surprise everyone I started with 4 people quit/fired in 1 week of me being there. I can’t wait for that place to burn. It’s dust af and it will be all over your eyelashes. No window. No a/c is allowed and it get 100• in the spring. Workers would cough from all the dust and machines would jam because we couldn’t be fast enough. I hope all their workers quit because Amazon in building right across from them

But I WAS very shocked to hear that Amazon accounts for _53%_ of injuries and deaths in the warehouse industry! This is one of those solid arguments no one will even mention. I'm tired of these people flat out laughing at people who want honest pay. These companies have insane profit margins and the pay at the bottom stays the same. A company that has record profits should be forced into an evaluation by the government on spending. The fact I still see advertising for Amazon but the entire workforce is negative is just asinine. They will spend millions on a youtube pop up but can't make the people with families feel secure financially.

Worked in robotics and automation (controls) in a fulfillment center through 4 "Peak" seasons that churned out over 1,000,000 packages in 24 hours over and over again with a building only designed to push 850,000 in 24 hours. People quit constantly. Those of us that stuck around were left to do our work and the work of those who left. Easy part was getting through Peak compared to after Peak when you get questioned for not performing scheduled maintenance tasks for 2 months straight. Those questioning the lack of maintenance mention nothing of the 16 hour shifts you pulled to keep the building running. It's a claw to the top environment. Low level area managers plotting and positioning themselves for those coveted admin jobs where they bark orders from their home remote office. It all ties in. Cut throat corporate behavior is the fastest way to get promoted. While these managers with bachelor degrees climb, the rest of us scurry around cleaning up the mess they leave in their wake when they get promoted.

This problem is not new just getting bigger with Monopolies like Amazon. Years ago I worked for a Burger King all but me and one other employee showed up on a Friday, it was the 2 of us and a manager. To run the entire restaurant, this was in the 80s when sales were Good! We held the ship together until 3 tour buses showed up dumping over 100 customers on us plus the normal drive through and regular walk-ins. I told the manager I wanted at least 3x the pay because I was doing the work of 6 people! The pore girl up front was only 16 and had to leave at 8pm due to working laws. He said he couldn't pay me more than the current minimum of $2.85 (80s law) I said I'm leaving if he doesn't call the owner and get permission to raise my pay for the night. Nope I walked out. The next day I came to work as scheduled the owner was there he wasn't happy because of what the manager said I did that was a Lie! I explained myself and he just said get to work. He couldn't fire me for being reliable and leaving when nobody showed up because of a concert the rest went to instead of working. No he didn't pay me because I refused to finish the shift. I don't know if he closed the store that night it wasn't my problem!

“Just get a better job” Is the real Soft American Mentality. Any rights and comforts of the workplace were fought for and earned by unions. Now companies are making record profits by encroaching on those rights. Americans had to organize, sacrifice, “complain” and fight to have those rights. The same way these workers are- actually putting in work for themselves instead of running from it. If you sell a job full days of your life, you at least deserve respect. That’s the difference between a worker and a lackey- we have terms and they have to be defended.

I'm not. I only buy from Amazon like 2-4 times a year. I use my mom's prime account if I can't find what I'm looking for anywhere else or if I'm desperate for the cheapest. It makes me cringe how much more I'm spending buying in person and at small shops, but I would feel worst if I regularly contributed to the suffering of Amazon workers.

The people working to make sure everyone gets their present to have a great Christmas and what do they get more work. I think everything that is not essential should be shut down for a few days around Christmas. Heck the grocery stores close to part time on Christmas I think we can do without a delivery or two for a few days.

This sounds exactly like working in retail/a big box store during the holidays, it sucks no doubt. I wish I could've gotten overtime hours back in those days, as they punish you if you go into overtime at most places... Overtime is a blessing to those who accept it, and can't legally be forced to my understanding. But what do I know after working mostly hourly for 20 years 🤷‍♂️

I’m an Amazon driver and have to go to work soon. They give us Insane numbers of packages, no extra pay, expect us to help other drivers after our routes. I don’t mind delivering, I’ve done it for 5 years now part time through college, but Amazon does not give a cats hoo-ha about us.

As someone who is a commercial driver and averages ten hours a shift each week throughout the year I totally support these Amazon workers. I had an understanding of the conditions in my field of LTL P&D but that was my choice and I find it better than working in a factory for half of the salary. These workers are having to deal with a large number of small parcel deliveries in primarily residential areas; amplified in the holiday season they’re easily doing more labor than what they’re being compensated for; then not to mention the fact the warehouses are incredibly busy and dangerous for those who aren’t on the road making deliveries. This is an important moment for organized labor in this country that the workers at this Amazon location win their strike. I don’t see them getting reduced hours but increased payment, and benefits should be absolutely essential for them when tasked with the demands of the workload. Solidarity!

It's not just Amazon's fault. People forget that the customer base is just as much at fault. The amount of times that I've heard people say "I just want my same or next day delivery" is crazy. That's why it's like this, they have no incentive to be different.

Good for these workers! Unions are definitely NOT "unconstitutional". Unions often are the only way to get fair conditions, since many companies sadly won't do it on their own - prioritizing profit over safe conditions, reasonable hours, fair wages/benefits, and more. More locations should unionize and the company should most definitely come to a halt for Christmas Day.

if it is the most profitable period (and it is), I don't understand why they just can't hire more people and/or offer higher voluntary pay. it's not like christmas is a new phenomenon, it literally happens every year, at the same time, the same way. They could have a legion of "reserve" workers that only come in during busy periods, that way they only need minimum retraining. they could've had such a system for years now. if the military where people are relied upon to literally go to war can have such a system work, why can't people who scan boxes and move things not?

If I'm not mistaken the average amount of time a amazon associate lasts is around 3 months. That means they have a 400% turnover rate per year, typically made up of new hires that quit, ghost, Time off task out, or get a final written. They absolutely do not need a reserve worker force. They can't even keep enough people to run in the "slow" times

It's always the frontline workers who are treated the worst. Grocery stores are notorious for forcing you to work weekends and holidays. When I worked at Walmart, I missed just about every single holiday with my family for 3 years in a row. I put up with it because everyone just accepted the fact that customer service employees at grocery stores are expected to work holidays. And Walmart is the worst when it comes to union busting, they will shut down a store before it gets unionized, and tank the lawsuits. I couldn't get any other job, and had bills to pay. I was so lonely and depressed, it felt like I didn't have a family anymore. The pay was shit, and the work was soul crushing.

Amazon refunded my money without demanding the item back after I accused them of fraud. Bought a bread machine off the Zojurushi website, and I haven’t been back to Amazon since.

After three injuries throughout the one year I worked for Amazon, and almost becoming homeless during my second occurrence, I had no choice but to throw in the towel. With no legitimate healthcare benefits, a truly pathetic payrate in addition to no overtime pay, downright insulting workplace policies, excruciatingly painful work hours/shifts, consistent workload increases without fail and no hope of change in sight; at my exit, I knew that I was making the right call. I will never go back to Amazon. Not even as a last resort. Period.
