It's those hours in traffic to get there and back, get ready in the morning, lunch time. For many it can be 3 to 5 hours. Basically half the day “working” but they only pay 8. I've been WFH since 2016. I attend calls at 7am local time and sometimes same day 6pm local time. My company benefits from me being at home and able to accommodate this even usually short notice. If I had to go into the office even 3 days a week, you can guarantee on the days I'm in the office, my availability for meetings would be 8am-5pm ET and I would have to block out time for lunch mid-day. The amount of time it takes to get things done would definitely be longer since I know my counterparts on the west coast would need to do the same thing. Vs now we can move stuff around, grab things from the kitchen with our headset on and etc. Companies should really look at WHO and what functions people do before they mandate them back.

What you just described is actually the problem. Some (not all and not saying you) remote workers are getting paid while not actually working. Then forcing all people back to the office is not the solution, statistically all productivity improved during COVID remote work. @@C-S. But many of us work more. As a telework I get a ton of pushback and asked if I will be on for the 1pm call when I call my boss to tell her I have Norovirus symptoms. Because surely I can just not turn on my camera and mute myself if I'm sick. Looking at my conference schedule for the next week, I have 4 days with calls starting at 8am and on two of those days I only have 15 minutes call free time until 5pm. (8.75 hours) On 2 days I have calls until 6:30pm. But I do have a whole 30 minutes midday free (10 hours). And the final day has a call scheduled at 8:30am and 4pm (until 5). I have approximately 4 hours not scheduled that day for calls but I have reports to write and submit. If I spend 2 hours on lunch that day who cares? They have 44 hours of work out of me when it's supposed to be 40. If I just took a 30 min lunch, they'd have 45.5 If I was in the office, I'd have to make sure I had enough time to go across the floor for the bathroom and at least 30 minutes for lunch each day. They'd be getting 37.50 - 38 hours of work from me and no additional. Because paid breaks are a thing. At least two per day plus an unpaid lunch of no less than 30 minutes. So overall, most employers are going to see productivity go down because us salaried employees aren't going to stay over routinely. We also aren't going to agree to deadlines that would require it. Companies with offices on both US coasts are going to have to figure out how to balance lunch/start times with meeting times.

Fire em! Freedom and flexibility is called entrepreneurship and requires courage and sacrifice. You can't make demands from the comfort of someone else's kingdom that didn't have the privilege of 'wfh' when they had to build the seat that you occupy! Bus drivers, restaurant workers, and cops have to show up for work, so you should too. I am so tired of whiny, entitled,and overpaid snobs complaining about things that only are issues to them. When i call to conduct business over the phone with a company, i dont need to hear dogs, parties, kids, wind from jogging and interference from poor internet connections, all of which are non issues in an office environment. Pay your student loans and get back in the office where you belong!! Patco 2024!

Of course they are 78% less drained.. it’s cause they are 78% less worked. Get your lazy butts back to work. Of course you love it and want more of it. This work from home nonsense is a win for employees. YES, it absolutely does affect productivity. Want to work from home? How about we adjust pay to accommodate it?, since your original salary was based on all the “burdens” of being at work everyday. PTO, overtime, sick pay.. you probably don’t need those anymore either. Workers comp? Can we cut that out? Why am I providing you health insurance anyway? The first thing that’s going to happen here… if this becomes the norm.. all these big corporations don’t need expensive American employees anymore. Why pay Tom when they can pay Bombay-Tom a fraction of your salary. You’re all so near sighted on all of this.. it’s wild.

I can understand if your job requires you to go into work, but if you have an office job that can be done from home, the only reason they’re forcing those workers back into the office is because building values have gone down substantially. It’s all about the bottom line and they don’t care about the common worker. Most of us have incredibly complex lives and the ability to at least work from home part time allows us to keep all of the balls juggled in the air. All the more reason that, if I had to do it over again, I would have focused on retiring quickly and not taking on the traditional type of debt we’re told to. I program for a living and even though my wife and I are doing well financially, if I had to do it over again, I would focus way more on early retirement. They’re going to keep squeezing the average worker until they break of get out of the rat race.

Remember folks, there are no companies if not for us, the workers. We work hard and productively on so many tasks for them that earn hundreds of thousands of dollars, while hardly seeing a fraction of it. Its called capitalism, I know. But the least we can ask for is for us to be able to make our valuable contributions and do our hard work on our terms, saving them money and paying our expenses bills at our homes contributing our best. It's really not asking for too much.

Where I work we have a handful of full time remote workers, but everyone else is hybrid. Everyone is required to come in on Wednesdays, Fridays are WFH except for a few necessary staff (building engineers, security) and the rest is up to each department manager to decide the rest to make a 3 days in office, 2 days WFH. We're saving so much money having the office essentially closed on Fridays, they're actually exploring a 4 day work week and a Fri-Sun weekend.
@renegade75653 ай бұрын
That's nice but even 3 days is actually overkill, 1 or at most 2 days is enough. Depending on the industry and type of work of course. But fully remote should be available for those who need it and can prove themselves as productive.

Harassment and bullying cases will rise. You have to manage the resentment that will follow with employees having to come back to the office. Traffic and car insurance rates will go back up due to increase car volume. If moms have to work, let them work at home where the kids are monitored and not committing crimes. It will be interesting to see the effects. One thing I know for sure, there is not collaboration in the office, it’s nothing but a big show and tell.
