I also work an IT work from home job and I'll say this. I don't wanna encourage any bad habits but as you continue to work you'll learn how to game the system. And what you can and cannot get away with. Does your job require you to stay glued to the screen while you're on the clock? I'm not tryna encourage any bad habits here, but the better you get at the job the easier it is to learn how much time your tasks actually take vs how much time the company wants you to spend on it, and can use the rest as "me" time. For example, my job requires prolly like 4-5 hrs of actual work and I consider the rest of the time as mine to do whatever I want. It helps with making you feel like you have better work life balance and you have more control over your time. Don't do nun egregious like them ppl who be at the grocery store in the middle of the day while they supposed to be on the clock, but you do have the luxury of working from home in the way that what the boss doesn't know what hurt em. As long as you still get your work done! As far as the soul crushing feeling of working a job that you don't like, that never really fully goes away, at least not in my experience, but there are things you can do to make it manageable.

00:44 - 98% of people work for money but only a FEW will admit this. People, especially in white collar corporate work like to put up this facade and fake enthusiasm for the job, then look at you side ways when you keep it real. I think your feeling of WTF is heightened by the fact you actually made money outside of traditional work doing something on your own terms. This also happens to athletes, musicians or entertainers who have to go back to the workforce for whatever reason. When you have done something you actually enjoy, that is genuinely fun and then you go to a 'regular' workforce it can be super underwhelming. On top of that you have to deal with internal jealous haters because of your successful past. Inevitably you will be left with this 'is this it?' sensation. I would suggest not sharing your feelings with co-workers because they will try to set you up and take what you say out of context. They will change a statement like "I only work for money" to "so and so said he does not want to be here" 👀. All in an effort to impress the boss when you are not around. Stay safe bro, it is a real cold world out here...

I'll be honest man, I felt that way when I was younger. I gave up a 9-5 to sell drugs and party with my friends. I made alot of memories I wouldn't trade for the world. The flip side of that is, it's easy to make wrong decisions, MASSIVE wrong decisions when you're chasing fast money. I ended up getting addicted to hard drugs for years. As bad as you think it could get, it was that. Homeless, like for real homeless, getting Infections from shooting up, jail and rehab, all that. Now as a 34 year old man, with 7 years (as of December 4th 2024) clean, with a good, stable job, I look forward to it. I don't get out much anymore, so my coworkers are one of my few face to face genuine social interactions these days. I understand the soul sucking monotony of it all, and I get that, but im tired now. I just wanna go to work, come home and chill and play games, and see my family and cpl of friends. I'm not here to tell anyone how to live or feel, that's just how I live and feel, kind of simplified. Love your videos homie 👍 👌

I enjoy work actually ending at 5:00:00pm and not an hour later when I finally make it home and decompress. I still get Sunday Scaries to a degree but it's NOT a deep feeling of dread like before. Just a sort of "aww man, I can't do whatever I want. Well, work will be fine." I know not everyone can do this but if you ever find yourself applying again, focus on remote and hybrid! It also helps tremendously to have coworkers you enjoy, work you can comfortably tolerate, and fun plans for after work so that M-F isn't just waiting for the weekend to come so you can actually enjoy yourself

Idk. I'm on my feet all day, from 5:30AM to 7:30PM between work and the gym. It is tiring. But when I was in the military, I had a desk job. I was an intel guy. The job was either crushingly boring, or horrifyingly stressful. Stare at this random patch of desert on the screen for the next 10 hours in a locked, secret room. Or, give a 50 slide briefing to the Wing Commander and all the senior enlisted. No inbetween. My job right now is tiring and I have to work with my hands. But when I was in the military I was genuinely thinking about $uic*de. Desk jobs are no joke. They suck the joy out of your life. Boredom is bad enough to be considered torture, imo

But yea I'm actually glad we have to go to work to survive because think about it most mobs/riots /protest rally happen because people don't got a job to go to, not all but most of them. People would be doing some scetchy things if they were given free time all the time. hey man, i discovered your channel not so long ago from your video talking about how much you make from IT & course careers. You inspired me to look into it & consider it as an option for myself but I know deep down with just a little more patience there are better opportunities out there. I've never really had a 'career' & have just been hoping job to job just to survive & i hear what you are saying man. It's the routine of our jobs that slowly start to suck the life out of us & become our identities. Everyone loves talking about having a 'work life' balance but the reality is most people just live in dread when they get off work & stress mentally on how to survive tomorrow. I guess i am posting this because i've been watching almost every upload of yours since than & i know there will be more opportunities for you outside of IT. just view this time as a step towards your journey & remember that you are not stuck unless if you tell yourself that you are.

Like it really struck me when I was around 17 that we don't really do much other then work work work retire by time we've gotten to old to do anything demanding and just settle with laying around and watching tv. And its not just as simple as cutting down the work week you could have a 3 day work week and still be miserable bc you hate what you're doing. We need both a shorter work week and job that you can enjoy.

I believe part of what you're feeling is due to you experiencing work-life balance the opposite way of most people. Most go straight to the 9-5 right away, and then follow their passion and find freedom years down the line. You fortunately lived out your passion/hobby first, became financially free with content creation first and then "went backwards" (in a sense) with a 9-5 after getting a taste of the sweet and flexible life At least this way, if you do decide to leave the 9-5 at some point in the future, you already know how to get your footing as a full-time entrepreneur I highly recommend learning how to trade forex or futures as another source of income

I just stumbled upon your channel, first time watching, and haven't watched the video full yet. But you asked what would I do if money wasn't the option. I ended up getting military disability and compensation back over a decade ago. At the time, I was working a warehouse job, and all the back pay and monthly stipends came in and wiped out my debt. I quit my job, went back to my home town, and did nothing for nearly a year. I had always been a grinder, and did what I needed to get my money and stay stable, including joining the military. It was the first time that I did nothing. But, I didn't just do "nothing." I spent time re-learning math, exercising, and studying all sorts of things. I wound up back in college, and pushed my way through an engineering curriculum, resulting in both a BS and MS in ECE. I ended up at a job working on software dev and research for AI projects. But shortly after the pandemic, quit that job, went back to school for my PhD, and was just in an uphill battle against burnout. So, I currently sit on my ass every day now, after walking away from it all, making music, working on random code, drawing, and trying to figure out what to do next. The disability ain't enough to cover all my expenses and I'm rapidly falling into debt, so once again I have to put on my "grind" mindset at near the age of 40. But, in the meantime, I'm realizing how much undiagnosed autism is going around in the black/brown community, and recently have been working to expose just how much of my own family has autism, which is why all of us keep getting burned out. Some people can work their ass off for decades and not experience these types of issues. I've burned out at least 8 times in my life now, which on average makes it about one burnout every 5 years (yeah, I did face them in my childhood as well, but nobody realized it was autism). People with autism are at risk of that "85%" number of being unemployed, meaning most of us get burned out to the point of either quitting or losing our job, negatively affecting our career outlook. It's the defining definition of disability (which is not what I'm rated for). So, to answer your question, what would I do if money wasn't an option? I'd learn all sorts of new skills that I'm interested in (what I do now) and I'd also teach. I'd go be an educator, especially for the black and brown community, and help guide young mines into what it takes to be successful, while making them aware of some of the dangers and pitfalls of society that lead us into poverty traps. I'd educate in math, science, and art, to show that all of this is important. I'd teach young minds how to code and think critically, and how to make their education work for them. Just because I can't do it for myself, doesn't mean that I don't know what it takes for the rest, I just don't have the energy anymore from all the burnout. Edit: JD

The feeling you have is because you don’t like what you’re doing, and because you know you can be doing more while being happier, bro. Imma keep it a band. Fresh out of high school, I worked at a telecommunications company for 8 years almost. The last 4 years I was there were dreadful. Not because the job itself was tough, or anything (things about the company were insanely annoying, so it kinda was). But the fact that it seemed as if there was nothing beyond it, and it was a company that could go under at any moment. I worked from home, so home started to feel like the office more than my home, and that made it feel worse. The monotony of waking up everyday and it feeling like Groundhog Day each day for years and it wasted so much of my time, happiness, and all, crushes my soul to this day, Bruh. Pursuing a career in tech is great. But that feeling you have will feel much worse 4-5 years from now if there isn’t more you want for yourself in the future besides sitting at a desk the rest of your life. Either way, I hope you figure it out, bro. Love the vids. ✌🏾
