This is just my experience of being a postdoc at Harvard Mecial School. It was an awesome experience that I would totally do again.

@@dongdongzhu6700 it was decent! I certainly learned a few things. Now I’m about to start a teaching faculty position at another university in the area. It was certainly a good stepping stone.

I am a PhD in plant sciences but I really hated being research associate and doing postdoc .I have been a lazy kid since my childhood and till PhD I was ok to do lab work but after that I wanted a job not again doing lab work

Thank you for sharing. I have got an offer. I am hesitant to do a postdoc at Harvard Medical School because the salary is low and expensive to live there.

I say go for it. It will be hard. You’ll never experience this level of science anywhere else. Great for your future work.

Hi! I have just landed on your channel! I loved your video where you talk about transitioning from academia to industry. I would love to know more about your experience both as a postdoc but also as a postdoc transitioning to industry. Can I ask you an email or something? Thank you so much for your time! And amazing helpful videos!

Thank you so much. Much needed this today. You mentioned the publication, should it be necessarily 1st author paper??. It's 7 months after I joined, and I got a paper as 3rd author, is it okay???.

Hey there, thank you very much for this. I am going to start my postdoc in Harvard this spring. I am a bit worried with salary and the living costs in Boston since I have fellowships from Europe that are not particularly voluptuous. Do you have any advise for people like me? F.e. trying to get a greencard and get a bit of consulting jobs after one year? Are there any other things you could recommend to be able to afford a living with exorbitant rent prices? Thank you!
@gradschooladvice95372 жыл бұрын
I don’t know if you will have much time for other jobs. A lot just find roommates and live in small apartments. Not much else to do but accept you will be poor for a few years but it pays off. Good luck!

Thanks a lot!! How do you distribute hours between teaching-mentoring vrs research ?
@gradschooladvice95372 жыл бұрын
It’s a case by case basis. I think research always has to come first. Ultimately, when you mentor someone, you need to make time, so research stretches to later or earlier hours in the day. Still, >80-90% needs to be your own research.

great video!, how many years did you spend in your postdoc? how many years do you think is the average? thank you! keep posting videos! 👍👌
@gradschooladvice95373 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I spent 3 years. I think the average time in a postdoc depends on career goals. If you want to go to industry, going for 3 years and publishing a paper is sufficient. If you want to go for academia you need more papers and grants and end up staying longer. 5+ years.

How many papers are needed to be published during post doc?
@perporiap9364 Жыл бұрын
With this inflation rate salaries are nightmare forget the research project pressure financial pressure is sth like a constant nuisance for International people unless you give up your normal life and go live with roommates. As international postdoc it is extremely hard almost impossible to get any fund for research too no loan no credit. perspective wise just chill your life can't be more pathetic than this 🤣 Forget toxic work conditions just be yourself and don't forget your passion about science. Plan for how to get required paperwork to become a PI. There is no way you alone achieve sth such as nature paper. It is all about team which team you are in. First year of postdoc I never recommend start from Harvard. I feel this place suits more experienced postdocs with at least three years past experience of trial error and waiting for their previous works to get out. Publish anything more than impact factor 9 you should be ok.
