Another great episode! In regards to the apprentices who leave soon after being qualified, I agree with what Pete’s saying however imo sometimes the apprentices are more reluctant to leave so quickly, is because either they’re treated poorly or are on a wage that doesn’t either reflect their skills and the company are reluctant to give them a rise. I’m going for Adam for the win and a total score of 180! Keep up the good work Gents.

Brilliant episode. My current apprentice is in his late 40's and I'd say to anyone wanting to do it that's able go for it. He's not doing a 4 year course/day release it's just modules in for a solid week done dusted, nvq etc because it's the only economical way of switching careers when you're older. He at least isn't in this 6 month rush course to become a domestic installer with no on site experience though. Until I got my father the PB9.0 bag he would literally carry his Gas analyzer into a ball valve job. Drives me nuts cause I have, first fix, 2nd fix, soldering bag, gas analyzer bag, MFT/CU change bag and a jobbing bag. It's great for organisation but easily takes up a vast amount of room and if anything hand tools are worth more than power tools these days.

Great to hear about your apprentice. It’s nice to hear people still taking the leap. The PB bags as well are a great choice., I find because Pete has taken some good time to design them. They just work really well.

I agree with Pete's 12:20 comment. After working with someone and giving them only trainee level abilities, I do believe you owe it to your employer to make them some money as a qualified tradesman. When I got qualified as an electrician back in the day I stuck with my employer...only for a year, but then I "left the trade" and went back to school for instrumentation and controls. Dual qualifications do usually get you a lot more job options and higher pay

im a trainee gas engineer and i cant find anyone to complete my portfolio with i went on the gas safe register and called 22 engineers and they all told me no work hard trade to get in too
