Pro tip for anyone looking for a grocery store job: apply for the back end (shelf-stocking, &c.). You end up dealing with significantly less bullshit from customers, and it's less menial than front-end.

I worked at a grocery store too. I worked in the deli department (the only hard part was starting for the first two weeks then the rest was EZ) my experience is the older adults act more childish than younger people / adults. I had one lady call corporate on me because I left her standing for over 30 minutes while I was slicing her some cheese.. that isn't what happened. We're not just a deli but we have hot foods too. 😃 There is this rule that my manager told us that "Anybody that ordered a chicken or sandwich order you have to stop whatever it is you're doing to help them first because they're trying to get out. People that are asking for deli/hot food are staying to continue shopping so they aren't as important." I remember feeling so sad because I wanted to say sorry to the lady and she had came up to me (after I had to step away to help one customer that had ordered a sandwich) she said "That was very very ignorant of you to just leave me like that, shame on you!" It was that kind of scene where you see a mother scolding her child pointing at them like you know better. I worked there for 7 months I did quit this year to finish up my senior year. 🥰

TLDR: You used to work at a grocery store. A woman called corporate on you because of a dumb rule where you had to help those who made a chicken or sandwich order and you had to leave to do that for half an hour. Now you don’t work there anymore to finish up senior year.

I work at a grocery store too. I’m in what they call the grocery department, which is stocking and neatening up isles. I don’t mind it, I get to learn where all the items are, and the only interactions I have with customers are when every now and then one of them will ask where something is. It’s nice because I can just zone out most of the time. From what I’ve heard, everyone who works in checkout like you hates it.

As someone that’s been working as a service Clerk for a year started last Thanksgiving week this couldn’t be any more true. When I’m on carts people are so lazy they leave carts in the middle of the parking lot. There’s also 2 types of people the cool ones and the ones that treat the job like game 7 of the NBA finals.

I have worked in grocery stores for 15 years and everything you said was so accurate! The laziness can be on another level one time back when I had a bad groceries my store was next to a hair and nail salon where a lot of housewives would go and get their hair and nails done one lady literally bought a bag of chips and a bag of bread she wanted me to bag it and then carry it out to her car for her so she wouldn't mess up her nails. And she says it to me as if I'm supposed to not think shes a lunatic lol
@bruhmayne11682 жыл бұрын
I started working at a grocery store as the cart pusher guy a few weeks ago and he's right about the customers being lazy asf. Like, I get it if you're old and don't wanna walk across the parking lot but there are a lot of able bodied people that are just downright assholes. I have been itching to just sucker punch someone in the back of the head over there. Mfs will literally make eye contact with me and put the shopping cart in one of those planters with mulch.

If the person doing the bagging is experienced, it makes the line flow faster, as cutomers are often held up when the person who just bought groceries is still bagging them. Remember that in the US, most Americans make no more than one trip to the grocery store per week, so there's usually a lot to bag.

Story time: I worked at Walgreens as the cashier and at the time I had only started a week ago so I was still getting used to how the cashier works, and this one time a lady bought all of our Colgate toothpastes, listerine, and laundry detergent with COUPONS. Because of how long she was taking, everyone in line were legit giving at me the stink eye as if I could resolve this quickly and it was around 9:30 and we only had one cashier open at the time. I shit you not it took around 45-to an hour to finish and to top it off we just restocked everything in the store the same day. Every purchase she made, she used 1 or two coupons or until it was a specific price she liked and that wasn’t even the worst part no. The worst part was her attitude towards me and everyone who was waiting patiently in line like “Can you work faster!”, “Young man I will not tolerate your stupidity”, “Do you work here?, why are you slow at this”. “Are you retarded why are you working here if you can’t work the cashier?” Like Im legit working as fast as I possibly can since the cashier takes time to process the coupons and keep in mind she’s buying a whole aisles worth of toothpaste mouth wash and laundry detergent with coupons so of course it’s gonna be a minute. Not gonna lie if it wasn’t for my good demeanor some shit would’ve gone down
