Thanks Keith for the lesson in blowing down an old boiler before trouble ensues. I bought a 7 1/4" loco project, and the boiler had been fired a few times. It was then stored poorly. I'm going to blow it down several times before I start testing any other part of the project!

And on our Day off I go and drill holes in the Clubs new carriage for the ground level! We come home and sadly watch the last episode of the CHUB REBUILD!! Totally enjoyed it Keith and Thank You! During the week I discovered I had got myself a Bahco 4 5 6 7 mm ratchet spanner? Yes tiny little thing and what a good idea! Yes the holding parts go half way through and there are tiny levers to change direction! Undo a bolt or screw with 1/2 inch of space! Thanks again. David and Lily Reading.

Absolutely wonderful work Keith. I must say I've been having a bit of a binge watch of all your videos over the past few weeks and I just cant get enough. To hear about the amount of rude comments you get is outrageous. Your work is truly something to behold and something i hope to be able to achieve soon enough. I've recently bought a 5" simplex as a box of bits which is currently slowly going back together so its wonderful to watch something like this and learn so much and be able to apply the same methods to my little engine. I'll be sure to take a look at your patreon. Thanks again for your hard work to make these videos, they really are wonderful. All the best.

At 3:50 I appreciate that you left the talking in the sound track, I've often wondered what your voice sounds like. A very fine 24 part series, thank you for the adventure. Your next task will be a grand journey. Over the decades I have had the (mis)fortune of assembling a good number of basket cases for folks. As you well know, it's one thing if you are familiar with the machine, but quite another if it's foreign to you. Perhaps a wee flask of fine single malt will be a valuable addition to your tool box for this?

You can treat your boiler water with Trisodium phosphate that will turn your hardness in the water to a better blowdown mud . We used this in our large boilers to keep hard minerals from sticking to the hot fire sides . The chemical here in the USA can be found at Paint supply outlets for cleaning stuff before painting . Maybe a 1/8 tsp to a gallon might do it .

Fantastic series sir and what a great result, really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the traction engine series, I love traction engines me. I find your videos extremely useful, informative, and very entertaining. I even took your advice when buying a stationary steam engine... well actually I went completely against it, lol. Bought a Stuart No.8 off the internet auction site we all know and love, painted in Mamod colours!! But turns out it is a really nice, well made model and runs fantastically on just a breath of air. So just need to give it a clean and repaint it. Where can I get one of those un-painting brushes from?! Lol. Anyway, thanks for the videos and look forward to the next... ...Cheers then!

Congrats on a well executed restoration, not without a few small hurdles but beautifully finished. I was about to say you've passed your baptism of fire with that engine considering the state it was in when you started but then you showed the next project they've assigned you. EGAD !! That WILL be "fun" for all. Will the Chub have any writing on the tanks denoting it's railway or will it be left blank ? It just seems like a really nice cake missing the icing.
@keithappleton6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind comment. With reference to nameplates etc, Simon often leaves the steam locomotives blank and will fit plates to the new owner's specification . . .
