I didn't work for a FANG, but I worked at the same level, same "notoriety" in the industry and trust me, the choice of this over that, has a hell of an upside once you get established. Working for Google, any FANG company, etc... is a grind at another level. Some people will benefit, and be stellar, even those, will pay a price.

@@TraversyMedia Brother, can you help me understand why my channel isn't doing well? I have 300+ views on one video and almost none on others. I have only 20 subscribers so that may mean that my audience is because of only that one video. What can I do to make my channel grow and help more people? Yea i try preaching this to my audience all the time. No matter what field you are in you need to have an exit plan the idea that you have to stay working for a company forever its just dumb specially with the skills we have. I worked as a freelancer for 2 years and was always one month away from being homeless. Working for yourself is not glamorous and it doesnt pay well at all for several reasons. 1) When people see that you are a one man operation they immediately presume that you are extremely cheap and you will do ANYTHING for pennies. 2) Most people will try to lowball you. Sure you can be a harda$$ and stand by your pricing but that usually means you wont get the business. 3) To make any sort of living as a freelancer you need to be a good sales person. You might have the greatest service in the world but if you lack sales skills you dont stand a chance. Sure, working for a boss sucks but atleast you know you are getting a secure paycheck every month. You need to know your strengths and many people just arent good at sales.

Man, you're just an amazing, kind, loving human being. You are literally saving my life. Dropped out of a Chemical Engineering degree to dedicate myself fully to web dev. Soon, I'll be leaving Venezuela, my country, to move to Argentina to pursue a better life. Things in my house economically are getting really, really bad. I can barely eat twice a day and things in Venezuela are getting even worse. What you do is helping me BIG TIME. Your videos are so full information, I spend all the time of my days coding and watching your videos. Found some small jobs on the internet freelancing, where I was able to make money so I can leave this place. Everything thanks to you. Thank you very, very much. You are helping me to change my life. I'm only 21 and for the first time in my short life, I feel like I can actually have a future, thank to this. Keep doing you, brother. You have a huge community backing you up. I hope to be able to support your patreon soon.

Hey Brad, thanks for the nice words and advice. I'm a webdeveloper for about 6 years now, full time. Last year I was working on a really big project for my company. I put a lot of effort and time into it and I was very proud of that piece of work. The Project was a success. A few months later I went to my boss and asked him for the leadership of the next project. He said something like this: "No. You just started in this industry. You have no experience in leading a group of people. Some people work years for such a position." As you can imagine such words are really depressing. I spoke to a friend of mine and she gave me a book about entrepreneurship and how to build self esteme for yourself. It was inspiring. One technique in that book was to go into yourself and find the goals and dreams that you have (short term but also long term) and write the ten most important ones on a piece of paper. Then you chase those goals. If you accomplish a goal you cross it out and copy the hole list and add a new goal to it. I'm doing this for about 10 months now. One goal on this list was to start my own business. And one month ago I did it! Long story short. If you feel that you can do more than working 9-5 then do it. If you have an idea, plan it out and start doing it. I don't know if my business will be successful but I have a plan and stick to it. Thanks again for this type of content. Greetings from Germany. ps. I don't know the name of the book because I gave it back.
