I have been working remotely for the past 7+ months.. Had burred line between personal and professional life.. Even though i had block out time for a meeting, i couldn't shut the world out since I have a toddler in my home.. I always tried to steal some time to unwind me, but that was less likely to happen.. as a result, i fee burnt out often.. Now, that am switching over to a new company, am expecting myself to have the enough bandwidth to stay focused and to have a good work-life balance.. Btw, thanks for your videos, its all really helpful.. Thumbsup👍

Have been working remotely for the past 3 months, one thing I found that it’s harder to resolve conflicts when u r not physically in the same location with your coworkers and harder to do team building. And I am sure everyone experiences self isolation from time to time.

I've been working from home for almost 2 years, and I'm pretty good at cutting myself off from the world and developing a productive routine. Sometimes I don't have strong bandwidth to minimize my context switching, so I adjust to keep focused and handle different matters simulaneously.

Thank you Annemarie for such useful lesson! Not only because of English expressions but also for the tips how to structure our time, our working hours. I need it now very much. For I have difficulties with maintaining a good balance between profesional and personal life. I'm working remotely, for me it means that very near my kitchen! It's a big temptation to have another sandwich... And other distractions... So I have to block out the best morning hours to stay focused on my work.

Hey Annemarie. Love your videos. I often use them in my lessons. In addition to asking my ss to write their own sentences with their favorite words/phrases, I prepare a set of gap-fill questions for discussion. What are the pros and cons of ______________? Do you know anyone who is a digital __________? How can you avoid feeling __________ out at work? Would you rather _________ or Skype for our next meeting? Do you have the _________ to take on new tasks at work? Do you find it easy to _________ out the world when working online? How important is it for you to create time to _________ from work? What times do you _________ out on your calendar to do personal things? How do you __________ up your day now that you’re doing your job remotely? How easy is it for you to _________ a few minutes of your work routine to do personal stuff? Have you been able to minimize __________ switching now that you’re working from home?

Hi Annemarie, it is a great lesson thank you, I appreciate your help. As the nature of my profession was not allowed me to work from home. But my husband is working from home for almost 3 months now and he is crazy busy all day long. He is so much busy that even he can't break up his day like everything is happening at the same time, he works on two monitors and replying to many emails and attending meetings and trying hard to be productive. So for the whole day, he has to completely shut out the world, no time to unwind himself even sometimes he couldn't steal 15 minutes to have lunch. I think it can't go on like this too long as he has not enough time for brainwork and he is so exhausted.

HI Sumera, thank you for sharing your experience and great job using language from the lesson like shut out the world, no time to unwind, and steal a few minutes of time. I'm sorry to hear it's been a struggle for your husband though. It sounds very stressful and I hope he'll find opportunities to step back from his work so he doesn't feel so exhausted.

Hi Annemarie! I work at the headquarter of a company, but since Covid-19 I've been working remotely. Breaking up my day is really necessary to stay on track, but take some time to keep working is the most difficult. Fortunately, on weekends I can shut out the world and take some time to unmind. I think is the only way to keep a work-life balance.

I'm working remotely currently. I enjoy being on a virtual team.I find that the biggest benefit of doing a job remotely is saving time and money. Until now I've managed to break up my day and create time to unwind. Sometimes I find it challenging to shut out the world. I haven't felt self-isolated as I live with my family. I prefer doing a job remotely :)

Hello Annemarie thanks for the great lesson and all your effort, I really appreciated it. Unfortunately I am not WFH but nowadays everything is with Zoom to engage with others. Mean while I am studying at home or just attending webinar at zoom or just at youtube so I block out time on my day to be there. Also sometimes I need to unwind from "my projects" to do something else at home and also dedicate time to do my walks during the week. Have a fantastic week, take care and stay healthy

Very exited video! I like it! When quarantine started our university shutdown and our team from my work also started work remotely. To do a job remotely is ideal way to be protected from virus, but for me it's have some negative sides. At first I want to tell you about my problem with blocking out time on my schedule. I always loose my concentration and cant deep focus on work. My relatives or my cat distraction me. The second reason why I am feeling myself disappointed is feeling that I always at work. I can't create time to unwind and I usually have blurred lines between professional and personal life. After one month such life I am burnt out and feel self-isolated. I am missing my friends, colleagues, my boyfriend. But I believe that it's protect my health from COVID-19

Hi Tanya, thank you so much for sharing your experience. It certainly is hard to adjust working at home and finding opportunities to unwind. Great tips and I love the way you grouped this topic as a lesson: it is so updated to the times we are living now! I guess it happens to all of us working from home: blurred lines between professional and personal life and trying to minimize context switching to stay on track. These are not easy tasks at all, and your lesson was not only about thriving in English, but also about thriving when WFH. Thanks!

Personally, it is almost impossible to work from home and it is also very challenging for me to do that since I was always distracted by outside. I prefer working in a physical environment and talking with my coworkers at their convenience, which makes me more natural to balance between professional and personal life. Of course, I really do not like to be isolated since it lacks opportunities to communicate with or make some friends.
