"I talk about fiction on the internet at great speed and great length!" I remember you were one of the first three channels I ever came across and my first thought was: Katie REALLY loves books. This is what a book lover looks like. Great tips! It's funny because in library jobs it's like: never say in an interview that you love books because it's considered as something that is implied and our professors always told us to never mention that. Photoshop and Canva have been increasingly required in all jobs both book-related and community-related. Great video!

Ha how weird that librarians shouldn't mention their love of books in interviews! So different to publishing. Though I guess some of it depends on the publisher. I've had some interviews all about a love of books, and some much more task/situational focused.

Quite an accessible list. I can only imagine how helpful it will be for folk looking to get into the industry.

This was so helpful, Katie! Although I'm not myself looking to go into publishing, a lot of these tips are transferable to my TV job search :) Thanks for making it!

This video is one of the most helpful I've seen yet! Especially tip #6- that's something I haven't heard from other booktubers. One question- do you think it is possible to get a job in London as non-UK applicant? I'm due to start my MA and I'm excited but nervous!
@katiejlumsden4 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) Definitely possible to get a job in London as a non-UK applicant. I know tons of people in publishing who aren't from the UK.

Where's the fire!? Better to slow down your speech rate; make part 1 and 2 if necessary. I pity non-native speakers who are trying to not just listen, but UNDERSTAND you. God bless!

I am non-native & I understand her. 😌

Sorry, I'm not trying to be fast, this is just how I talk (well, in fact this is digitally slowed down from how I actually talk). If you click the settings button in the corner, you can slow down any KZbin video to .75x speed if that helps. Also the tips are summarised in the description.
