ANSWER- following are the reasons why India's prime minister is not directly elected: 1) the prime minister is generally the leader of ruling party in parliament(lok sabha) 2) the prime minister is elected by the majority in lok sabha by the representatives , who were elected by the people of the country 3) Advantages- the indirect election of P.M. makes the post more accountable Disadvantages- This leads to disconnection of the P.M. from citizens. additionally, the process may take time. 4) since population of india is huge, it is quite impossible for everyone to elect and agree upon a specific leader as P.M.
