I ordered the little riverbend skinner 2nd after I saw your unboxing of em. It’s supposed to be here tomorrow, it will be my first rosecraft knife! Can’t wait. Think it would be great to give away. Beautiful knife! I’m also thinking of going back and ordering the French broad jack. Wish they still had that Barlow one but they are gone.

I thoroughly enjoyed your video, JB. Tobias Gibson once shared his technique, which I use on all my new RRs. Hold knife in open position under a tap with very hot water for a couple minutes. Shake excess water off and dry with hair dryer. Apply WD-40 and wipe dry, then oil pivot. I've seen some ugly gunk come out using this method. Your knife is definitely worth a give-a-way!

Thanks for the video it helped a lot on my seconds Zambezi. I still had really stiff pull from half to open. I put some flitz in the pivot. opened and closed about 100 times. Then clean with ballistol. then oiled again. That seemed to help some to. Thanks JB this was awesome I couldn't figure out where to start.

When I have a knife that doesn't open and shut nicely I first wash it in washing up liquid and rinse well dry it off then spray with WD 40 hopefully that gets rid of debris, lastly I oil it well and manipulate the blade for some time. can be time consuming but usually they ease up.

I got a first quality of that Barlow and love it! For the stiff and gritty pivot I combine the air and oil, I WD40 it... it does work most times. I always open to the ¾ open so the spring is out on the back. Oil and air (or WD40) from inside to out twords the pivot. Then blow after its set for a while. Wipe the spring before moving the blade to get anything on the spring. Gaw? Yes, if the recipient knows about it. And if they want to work on it... I'd look at it as a challenge 😏.

It seems to me to be bolster drag, it's starts after the half stop. My opinion, it needs sanded on the inside top of the bolster, just a bit at a time. Spreading it could cause problems visually and cause blade wobble. JMO Love that design from Rosecraft, I don't see why anyone wouldn't want it, unless they don't like traditional knives or Barlows. Someone might not want to work on it, but it'll be great for a GAW, thanks for sharing BigRed be safe.

Hey JB, thanks for your efforts, and yeah, I’d be glad to win that knife in a gaw. I received a seconds French Broad Jack today and it had no note, but has obvious blotchy show side bone color, not enough red dye for even coloration, so some natural bone color shows through. Am I mad? No. It’s still a great knife in all other respects, and definitely worth the price. It’s my first half-stop slip joint and I love it. The blotchy coloration gives it a patina kind of look. Maybe some strategic dye application might improve it, but I’m not too worried about it. I can enjoy it as is for now. It really is a great knife.

When my slip joints get crazy stiff, I shoot some really strong degreaser into their inner workings and let it sit for a while, hose them out with fairly high pressure, dry them out with compressed air, oil the hell out of them, and then open and close them repeatedly 20 or so times. Sometimes I have to do it multiple times but eventually the knives become butter

If I was gonna take this one apart, I would first put this one in my ultra sonic gun cleaner unit for an hour or so (using a mild soapy sudsey solution not a harsh chemical cleaning solution) and see what happens. Looks like a great GAW if the recipient is an experienced slip joint guy.
