I've watched a lot of videos on this topic but yours is the BEST! After scratching around in that hole your video took me right to the spot. I just pressed and the hatch popped open! Now let's figure out a way to make a permanent lever to open the hatch from inside of the car.

Which doors couldn't you open? You couldn't just pull up to lock to unlock it?

Sure glad you posted this! I am 70+ some years, and I am going to give it a shot. Car has been sitting there for 6 months undrivable because the great grands left a light on and killed the batterie and I could not figure out what to do after AAA came out and said they couldn't help. It wouldnt take the charge from the jump. Sometimes I feel like the "Little Red Hen"

Like Peggy below, I'm much older than I need to be, crawling around inside the damned HHR cargo area. Pulling that spare tire cover and trim was a trick in itself from the inside. I watched this video and didn't see what you were pushing, but to the right of that drivers' side edge, the lever is pretty deep back and you just have to stab around until you find something that gives when you push. No way any camera is going to show it, but you got me in the neighborhood and I got 'er done. Thanks

More Insanely horrible design by an American Automaker. From the placement of the Battery, to using an electronic Switch to open the tailgate, to not having a manual handle available inside. Just Dumb.

Plus there is only 1 key hole on this 2007 . Just the driver side door. Crazy design. But a kool looking ride. I always got compliments on mine!

There should be a latch in these things you can pull. I almost never got mine open to get to the battery. Why do they have to hide everything?

About 0:50, you need a screwdriver small enough to fit between the visible metal bar and the right side of the of the open in the red metal housing and push towards the back of the car.

great help, but, if you need a jump start you can do it opening the hood.

Your right. You can jump under the hood, but if you need to access the battery or if the notoriously badly designed rear hatch handle is broken this is how you can open the rear hatch to service them.

@@l-bowstudio Thank you for this video. I am new to HHR had this 3 years. It is -35 degrees in Minnesota today and I really didn't want my boyfriend to freeze taking the entire back panel off looking for it. We need to replace the battery yeah I know I should have had it tested before -35 temps. Did everything to get it weather ready except that. Lovely. Thank you again

Not to sound like a complete dork but how do I jump the HHR from the engine compartment ? My Dad was the mechanic not me. He is with the Angels now. He taught how to change alternators, starters, batteries, tires etc. And how to troubleshoot certain things. But never that ? Thanks ahead of time.

I'm trying to recall this all from memory I don't have an HHR in front of me but,under the hood on I believe is the right hand side there should be a red cover (by the fuse box)with a positive sign on it that will be the positive cable coming from the battery you lift the red cover off and connect the positive cable of the jumper to that. You can connect the ground to any grounding point on the motor, like a valve cover bolt. Hope this helps.

ya! it worked 70 yrs old and i fixed this and also key stuck in ignition because of dead battery from another you tuber.......now i can charge battery to get it replaced somewhere.......wish i could move a little more like a 20 year old to do it tho...lol

You can also open the hood and use the remote jump start stud hook up a battery jump box if you have one if use another car and jumper cables I just went through this dead battery much easier than crawling around in the back of the car .

Just use a battery jump box or jumper cables hooked to the remote start stud located under the hood e z peezy lemon squeezeee much better than crawling around in the trunk .

its a manual release, it doesn’t need battery, took me a bit of poking around but it works.
